Having enjoyed staying at various Macdonald hotels before, we were quite disappointed with this one. Although the car parking is free, the spaces are scattered round the front, back and sides of the hotel.
There is poor road surfacing and the spaces at the back are near the rear buildings of the hotel - the very shabby bit. We were worried about security, but luckily the car was ok. The room was clean and spacious, but we had a very dismal view. We had an executive suite, but it was located at the back in the grotty part of the hotel.
The sound insulation was very poor. We could hear conversations from other rooms into the early hours of the morning. The staff were not very efficient, and the customer service was not particularly good. All in all, it felt like a 3 star hotel. I wouldn’t really recommend it. I am sure there are much nicer hotels in Harrogate.

My boyfriend and i have just returned from what we wanted to be a lovely weekend break, but although the hotel itself was nice and the food couldn't be faulted, on our last night while we were out in harrogate someone decided to help themselves to the money we had hidden in our room. We had previously that day withdrawn the money as the gentleman on reception requested we pay by cash with our agreement ,although we thought this rather odd given the size of the hotel. There was no forced entry and everything was locked prior to us leaving the room (so it was obvioulsy someone within the hotel who had access to the keys)!! Now thats what i call service!!! We wont be going back to this hotel and we wont make the mistake of leaving money in our room when we visit again (obviously in a different hotel). The member of staff we told didnt seem that bothered and whilst he called the police he was more interested in whether or not we could still pay!! I've wrote this as a warning to others, if you still decide to stay here keep an eye on your cash!!!!
