A fabulous hotel. The bedroom was breathtaking & we did not have any complaints whatsoever. The reality is this is a top notch luxury hotel. All members of staff including the maids, receptionists, waiters & spa staff were extremely friendly, courteous, willing to please &... more

expensive, but crap lager
we were invited to a wedding there on saturday 7th and i must first say that the venue is beautiful and the views astonishing , and the wedding was a complete success, but something that we all commented on was the drinks at the very small, very slow and extortionate bar.. now dont get me wrong, the drinks are always expensive at places like these but when you are paying £3.50 plus for a pint thats warm (the weather was 19 degrees, and the beer was not far off the same ) but the worst part was you only have the choice of warm miller, warm miller or warm john smiths, so to charge all that money you cant help but feel that they could at least afford to put on some decent lagers and bitters and a cold chiller. the spirits bar had a huge array, but please be warned unless you specificaly order a single then you will automaticaly be given a double at around £7.00 (with mixer) if you stay there i would highly recomend taking a crate of cold lager with you and a hip flask, unless they sort the quality out !!
Wonderful stay!
We stayed at Wood Hall during the first week of March 2007. We telephoned in advance and tried to get an early check in. They said they may be able to accomodate us but they couldn't make a guarantee. However, we turned up 3 hours earlier than prescribed check in, were told that our room wasn't ready, shown to the bar and then 10 minutes later, we were handed our room key with a smile. We had a fantastic room service lunch - including the home made doughnuts, which were gorgeous. The rooms were decorated in a modern style with marbled bathrooms. All rooms have huge plasma tv's but unfortunately, ours just didn't seem to work that well and we had trouble changing channels. We had a family meal in the evening with 9 people. They catered for a teenager who wanted something which wasn't on the menu - the waiter was more than happy to give our guest exactly what he wanted! My food was superb, there were just a couple of comments that the Yorkshire Lamb wasn't as tender as it should have been but other than that, it was tasty and actually quite good value. We had a great night of sleep and work refreshed and had a freshly cooked to order breakfast which was of a very high quality. Although this hotel is pricey, I would highly recommend it. 4/5 purely due to TV malfunction and high price.
Beautiful hotel
Stayed here on Sat night with my boyfriend. The hotel was beautiful, very tastefully decorated, clean, good service, lovely food and in fantastic quiet rural location. I would definetly reccomend.

Lap of Luxury
We stayed for one night in the 'maple' room. The bed was the most comfortable hotel bed that I have slept in. The decor was luxurious. The room was clean and facilities were to a high standard (decent hairdryer, decent tea &coffee, iron & ironing board etc) It was nice to be able to watch the plasma TV (and even given the choice of DVD hire & snacks). There is a cosy lounge and a separate bar. The restaurant was fully booked when we were there. We did not mind as it was probably a bit too fancy for our tastes. We had sandwiches from the bar snacks menu, which we were both impressed with. The staff were very pleasant and happy to help. The view and surroundings are very picturesque. ( Perfect for weddings ) There is a beauty spa which we unfortunately did not get time to visit. There was a very good choice at breakfast which included cold meats & cheese board, Danish pastries, croissants etc as well as the usual cereals and cooked breakfast. The only downside to this luxury is that it all comes at a cost! We did get a complimentary upgrade which was great. But the cheapest bottle of wine was £18 (house white). All in all it felt like a real treat so we will be definitely be returning.
Modern Luxury in the Countryside
We stayed at the hotel to attend an evening wedding reception. We took a taxi from Leeds station to the hotel, which costs about 20-25 pounds. Our first impression of the hotel was great - the driveway sweeps up to the front of the Hall, which has a beautiful view across the fields. Our room was very well decorated with a modern luxurious finish - plasma tv, marble bathroom with bathrobes and quality toiletries provided. The bed was very comfortable and the room was quiet. Breakfast the following morning was tasty and plentiful. In the afternoon we used the pool, jacuzzi and steam room, which were lovely but a bit on the small side. Only 4 people can comfortably swim in the pool at one time, and there are only two showers in the women's changing room. I was impressed by the fact that all the staff seemed to enjoy working at the hotel and they were friendly and cheerful. The only issue we had was that the wedding group rate was 30 pounds more than the rate available via the Internet for the same night!
Excellent weekend
We stayed at Wood Hall for a family reunion and dinner. From the moment of our arrival the service was polite, attentive and professsional. A small mix up over the booking was dealt with quickly and efficiently. The rooms were clean and recently refurbished to a very high standard. Two families in our party had inter-connecting rooms in the annexe which just a short distance from the hotel. These rooms were presented to the same high standard. The dinner was served in a prvate dining room and although the menu was limited, the meal was excellent and enjoyed by all. Breakfast was served in the dining room and was also very good. The setting is stunning with a long drive approach. Wood Hall is a beautiful small hotel with excellent staff who clearly enjoy looking after their clients. We had absolutely no complaints after our stay and will definitely return.
Fabulous venue
I stayed at this beautiful hotel with my family in August 2005. The purpose of our journey was indeed a wedding - certainly not the rowdy event described by someone previously. We stayed in the main building and our room was beautiful. The most romantic venue you could imagine. Anyone out there that is thinking of tying the knot - and has the budget! - then this hotel is pure class. Maybe we had special treatment due to the wedding, I do not know - nor do I care!
Its not all roses..........
We stayed there for one Saturday night in August having spent a glorious week at Wood Hall some 13 years previously, long before the refurbishment. We had been warned that a wedding reception was taking place that day and that parts of the grounds and hotel would be restricted. There is much that Wood Hall has going for it : location, quality of rooms, spa, quality of the staff but our experience was less than the 5 star it should have been. The dinner menu was restrictive when eating off the inclusive list which we had chosen as we were only there one night. Salmon was one of a choice of two dishes on both starters and main course. The room was excessively hot and no windows could be opened because of flying insects. We woken at c 3.00 a.m. but drunken wedding guests continuing their celebrations on the lawn at the front of the hotel to the accompaniment of a car stereo turned up loud with the doors open. We complained to the night staff who put a stop to it after a brief period. The hotel responded very well to a written summary of this and offered us a discount off our next trip there which we thought was a sensible response. I think they were embarrassed at the disturbance. Given that it is difficult to control a big party of guests like this anyone staying here might want to think twice if there is a reception planned. I am glad the gentleman who complained about the negative reports had a good time there but he should remember that it is the small things that make the experience.
How could anyone write a bad word about this place!!
A friend recommended Wood Hall to me, saying how wonderful it was, and having stayed earlier this week to celebrate a special occaision, I can only say that wonderful is not expressive enough!! Its clear that the staff are the best asset, with fantastic service that is friendly but not over familiar. The surroundings are beautiful so after an energetic (!!) stroll through the grounds, my relaxing afternoon of pampering in The Spa was very welcome. I would not hesitate in recommending this Hotel to anyone. The one thing I would question is to the person(s) who wrote the negative review about Wood Hall that I have just read on Trip Advisor, they must have some sort of 'chip on their shoulders'- their comments are nonsense! Well Done Wood Hall- carry on with the good work- Cant wait 'til the next visit!
