Good idea and a lovely view but how long can you look at a view for? Me and my husband managed to scramble down to the beach!!!! under the hotel to do some snorkelling but be aware it is very slippery to get in as there is no ladder to aid you. Could be quite dangerous. However after the climb back up oxygen masks would come in useful. You can walk to a municipal beach which we did, it is about a 25 min walk down hill towards Ag Nik but watch out for the coaches etc, had to get a taxi back which still cost 7 euros. The food was eatable but became very repetative and the drinks ok. Mind you, you wouldn't get a hangover and always an early night unless you start paying out for it or going out which all costs money (thought it was ment to be all inclusive??) When they said the drinks stop at 11pm they stop whether you are in the queue or not i thought it was terrible that you had to pay for bottled water in the heat especially with kids there. Oh well glad i only went for the week and i won't be going back., Staff were all freindly but not greek.

We have just returned from a weeks holiday at the Hera Village hotel, Accommodation was a little basic but hey you were only sleeping in it. Very relaxing holiday with fantastic views , Food was very basic and should have had more variety with traditional Greek foods, Snax through the day was poor for the children - could have been better than just cheese and Ham rolls at pool bar - not kept refrigerated. All staff were very friendly and helpful , Animation for children - well there was none . Entertainment day/night poor - you had to make your own - ( meeting some very friendly holiday makers ) . pool area was limited with only two umbrellas and not enough sun beds, the challenge to get your towel on 1 was a test of who could stay up the latest. But all in all we chilled out and would return on the basis that things mentioned improved.

We have just returned from Hera Village and can say that we really enjoyed ourselves. The staff are very friendly and made us feel very welcome. I read the reviews prior to going and had big reservations, as there were alot of negative comments. I do agree that it is hard to see how it was a 4star resort as the bedrooms were very basic, the shower was extremely dated and a kettle in the room wouldn't have gone a miss. But the view was fantastic, the pool was cleaned regularly, staff were friendly. The food was tasty but no one would eat three times aday in the same resturant, so if you found the food boring go into the nearest town and eat in one of the many restaurants for a change. Admittantly the evening entertainment was once again very basic, but the staff tried. When you are on holiday you should just chill out and relax and enjoy. If there was a problem just approach a member of staff and they will obilge. I took my two children and they throughly enjoyed themselves . Forget about the Mozzies as you will get them in every hot country so go prepared with the necessary creams and lotions. You can't blame the hotel for the insects!!! We enjoyed ourselves and made the most of our week at Hera Village. Well done to the staff as they work hard.

We visited The hera hotel for two weeks in may and found it a great value for money place to stay. the hotel is traditional cretian and has the best views in crete, the hotel is very clean and the staff are great the food is very good (No upset stomach) and I would recommend any one to try it.

FIrst the good points. There is a truly breathtaking view of the bay which is visable from most of the hotel. The location is good for exploring the two nearby towns, a short 7 euro taxi ride or around 1 euro 20 on the bus. The staff are great and really try hard to make you happy. The hotel is clean and generaly tidy.The food was basic but on the same par as other all inclusives we have stayed at. Now the not so good points. The rooms are very basic . The beds are very hard and uncomfotable as they are built onto a concrete base. There are a lot of steps and some of the rooms are a good walk from the bars and reception. It is not possible to walk anyware from the hotel as it is on a very busy main road. The pools which are quite small and the water is very salty. Dont expect to get hold of a sun lounger as there are only a few which seem to be claimed in the small hours by the towel fairies.Forget the "beach" its too far to walk down and up the steep hill, its also not worth the effort.There is not much in the way of an Animation programe.All in all i was dissapointed with the hotel. I enjoyed my holiday overall and would certanly visit Crete again although not at this particular hotel.I was told the hotel is under new management this season so may be things may improve.I think they need to rewrite the hotel description and star rating.

Booked as a low cost A Class, All Inclusive holiday for a relaxing chance to unwind. View over the bay is certainly 4 star but accomodation towards low class 2 star for studios - apartments better. Ray (a.k.a. Frankie Detory) and his staff, excellent. Many aspects tended to reverse the outlook of relaxing and unwinding by the pool. Entirely British people initially on site but sun bed bookers aplenty. This necessitated a trip to Elounda or Ag. Nic. (7 Euros taxi each way, 6 Euros for sunbeds and parasol, approx. 20 Euros for beer and a light lunch). Packed lunch could be provided if booked the day before but we lived in anticipation of securing a sun bed on the terrace - rarely unless you wakened prior to 04.30 hours. Meals pallatable but very restricted in choice. Bingo rip off (2 weeks running) - line on 31 numbers, full house on 36 (Guinness book of records take note) and even then only if you were female, young and blonde. Queue for beer and wine to the right of the bar then queue again for spirits to the left of the bar (very small measures which means queuing for a major part of the night) and be sure to hit the bar prior to the barman's reading of the time - watch, set for Greek time - earlier than my correctly set timepiece. All inclusive does not include anything after departure from your room. Mid-day out of room and band removed from wrist - pick up time 23.45 - nil to drink or eat allowed. This was blamed on Med Hotels and minimal profit margins. Lovely setting if isolated, requiring transport, unless your suicidal. You require to be fit for the steps, quick off the mark for sunbeds and aware of the shortcomings - first year therefore they will need to improve immensely if they are to attract business.
Fantastic place

Lovely place, designed like a typical Cretian village, but with all the mod cons. The place is built on the hillside overlooking Miribello Bay. The views are truly panoramic,especially at sunrise. The owner, Manolis, his wife Irene and all the staff are courteous, kind and always friendly. Fantastic holiday, great place. We are heading back again later this summer.

I stayed at Hera Village for a week with two of my friends and one of their families and can honestly say that it is one of the best holidays ive ever had. Although the night life at the hotel wasn't as good as we had expected, the staff would bend over backwards to make sure you were enjoying your holiday. All of the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, especially the head waiter in the restaurant Ray (or Charlie as we knew him best) and the bar staff. Alex and Marco are absoloute gems, some of the friendliest people there. As I mentioned earlier, the nightlife in the hotel wasn't as good as we had hoped but it was only a 10 minute drive down to Agios Nikolaous where you are sure to have a good time! The Aquarious Pub in Agios has to be one of the best pars in the whole town, great music, great staff, great atmosphere. Everyone is so friendly and make you feel welcome, esecially Will at the door and Dave at the bar! Dudes!!! This was my second holiday to Greece but first to Crete and I would definately go again. Not only are the staff friendly but there is a great atmosphere amongst the guests at the hotel especially when you get involved in the animations with a couple of drunken OAPs! For any one thinking of going to Crete, I strongly reccommend Hera Village. We all had a fab holiday and I'm sure many other people will to in the future! Happy Holidays!!! First the good news. Hera village is on Crete, so the sun shines. There are great views and the staff are generally friendly, if a little inexperienced. Nearby Elounda is a pretty place with restaurants and a beach. Thats the end of the good news. We booked this as an "A" class hotel. Presumably, like a Mercedes, this means bottom of the range. We thought we were going 4 star but got a 2 star. Arriving late at night, we were led to to our bungalow by torchlight, down a 1 in 4 slope on a rough concrete track. We shared the apartment with a host of creatures such as spiders, millipedes and mosquitos, the latter despite our best efforts with plug in / other repellants. We all got bitten to death! The "local charge" for air conditioning was 84 euros for 1 week! The beds comprise mattresses on concrete bases and the pillows are the hardest I have ever come across- all guests we spoke to agreed on this one. There are exactly 30 sunbeds around the 25 metre (olympic standard??!!) pool, for the capacity of over 250 guests. If your towel is not on there by 4.30am, resign yourself to a day sitting on a concrete bench. We managed to get a sunbed on day 5. We also experienced losing a sunbed while we were at lunch! The buffet is very basic. This is the phrase which sums the whole place up. One meat dish, one fish dish. one pasta and 2 veg. Salad = lettuce, green pepper, and a couple of dips. While what is put out is edible, it is a country mile from what we would expect from an international hotel. Bar is not air conditioned so what out for mozzies! The "Rocky beach" is 900 paces down a steep slope to a slab of concrete and a real treck back up. My wife summed it up best: "If I was offered another week free of charge, I would not take it up". Glad we only booked a week and not a fortnight. Love Crete, hated this place.

We stayed at the Hera Village for 1 week, we were shown to our room and our jaws dropped we wandered where Jeremy Beadle was. The so called Bungalow reminded me of the Flinstomes cartoon as everything was carved out of rock,the bed was rock with a mattress on top plus sheets etc. The place had such a lot of stone steps, which were pretty dangerous and certainly not for those people with walking difficulties, in fact a lot of people complained to the Rep on the first day, i think the people that had walking sticks were moved but everyone else had to grin and bear it which we did,alas never again. As for the entertainment, there was one guy who was called the Animator, we called him a pain, he pestered us for "tips" every time we went to the bar (mostly women) , also he knocked on our doors at 9.00 one morning pestering us to buy Bingo tickests, we declined because we heard this was a "rip off" in fact it turnerd out to be true as he charged 1 Euro per ticket the prizes were a bottle of wine for a line and a bottle of Brandy for a full house. Where did all that money go?. The food was ok but they liked to serve up Rabbit a lot, but there was lovely fresh bread everyday and salads so you would not sfarve. The staff were friendly and well mannered and the view was pretty good, but we wll not return to The Hera Village even if it were free.
