" Enjoyable Son Bou "

Me and my family have just got backed from Menorca. We stayed at the Girasol Gardens which was situated in Zone5 and opposite the restaurant La gondola. We all had a enjoyable holiday so much that we have booked to go back next September with First Choice.
The staff at the San Jaime complex were brilliant and all made us feel welcome the different tribute acts that were on were great especially Freddie Mercury. The best restaurant are either Andre's or Arthurs but the others were just as good. My 2 year old son loved travelling on the minature train(cost 2 euros one way)which takes you around the resort. The night is ok for the children as their is a bowling alley plus things happening at cocabana's. The complex was clean and the staff at the reception plus bar were great. We had 2 lifeguards on duty at the pool and the lady one was most helpful especially when my daughter cut her foot. Overall i would recommend this complex to anyone who has a young family.

Advice: the beach/pool

Activities: andres/arthurs

" Great Holiday "

We have just returned from a holiday in Menorca staying at the Son Bou Garden Apartments. We were very happy with the accommodation which was basic but clean, tidy and with all kitchen gear provided so you could cater for yourself. Our apartment was cleaned twice in the week we stayed. We stayed in Zone 3 which was 2 minutes to the pool, 5 minutes to the lovely beach and there was a bakery and supermarket were 5 minutes away. The main shops were also very close and not more than 5 minutes away. Entertainment stopped at around 10.30pm which was great as we have young kids. Probably not ideal for older teenagers as not too much night life. Recommend hiring a car as the Island is only 50km across and you get to see so much with so little effort. Highly recommend both Menorca and Son Bou Gardens. Recommend "Andres" restaurant in Son Bou it was always booked up with locals and the food and service were great.

Advice: Great beach, plenty of waves but shallow for kids.

Activities: Andres Resturant in Son Bou. The views at Fornells in the North (only 25 min drive from Son Bou)

Good for: Beach

" Super Son Bou "

Beautiful complex and apartments . It was great to have a choice of 3 pools and a cut off point of noise when the entertainment ended in the evening! The choice of restaurants were limited. We found the best one ATALIS . The worse one was BONI RESTAURANT where our 3year old nearly choked on a sharp piece of plastic in her ice cream!!Also avoid CAFRTERIA NOA they serve only part cooked sausage!!
We would return to Son Bou every year if we could . Watch out for the insects though!!

Advice: Beautiful,clean,amazing scenery,glorious beach.Perfect

Activities: ATALIS RESTAURANT.MAHON MARINA

" Son Bou Gardens "

We have just got back from Son Bou Gardens. I was extremely impressed considering it has a 3* rating. In our party there were 6 adults and 2 children, we stayed in adjacent apartments in Zone 3 looking over the park and one of the pools (which was quite cold). The apartments were clean and tidy, each room had a ceiling fan, the kitchen was well stocked with utensils although we did not have a kettle but got an electric one supplied within half an hour of asking. If you are missing anything do ask, they will supply it. The staff were fantastic, especially at the San Jaime club. The entertainment was extremely good, with good tribute acts, a mini disco for the children every night and daily activities. The resort itself was nice, with a selection of restaurants and shops. The beach was lovely and only a short distance away, lifeguarded and full of families. There was lots to do and regular buses to Mahon for about 2.25 euros.
The only downside was that the pool was very cold but is was nice and refreshing on the really hot days and it didn't seem to bother our 1yr old. Also it is quite expensive 5.50 euro for a bacardi and coke and the supermarket's were very expensive too so take lots of spends!

" Family Holiday "

I am a customer who has been to son bou gardens on several occasions same place since we knew it,myself and my fiance and 2 kids enjoyed it from the moment we got on the flight from Edinburgh the flight was only 2 hours 15 mins and was a smooth flight no troubles,we got of at Mahon Airport and found our luggage on the belt no problem in fact it was there before we got there going around and around waiting,we then were directed to our bus to take us to our appts to that we had our First Choice Operator on board the bus also giving us the local information and any warnings that may occur. We got too our appt and got settled in for the night and by morning there was lots of kids already swimming about in the pool with there toy boats ect, very nice to see kids enjoy themselves,The weather was nice also the gardeners were out everyday tidying round about the appts while breakfast was being served up in the restaraunt.Son Bou Gardens has a kids mini disco outside the restaraunt for about 20 mins then they have a slightly longer disco for kids over in the San Jaymie Appts section,There is always live entrtainment every night with different things on,george micheal, queen, abba, the drifters, and many more actors this also contains a full table service for you while you enjoy you visit to son bou watching the live entertainment.kids clubs via thomson holidays on site, local shops and ammenaties and the lovely long golden sandy beach this is a definately must see to believe, you can hire boats for paddling in the beach,or enjoy the horse riding,You can even meet the local animals cats,we have had a few of them visit us in the past few years weve been very harmless. And not to forget the frogs and lizzards at night time my rating to this resort out of a scale of 10 would be a 8. If your a outgoing person you can visit Mahon market, even get out onto the glass bottom boats and the see the sea bed and fish below the boat.
Sir Richard Branson also has a place over there in Mahon wich you can see as you pass in the boat.
Tour Operator To Use First Choice or Thomsons most helpfull staff i have ever met.

Advice: all of the above

" nothing to do in the evenings at the... "

nothing to do in the evenings at the apartments, staff at the restuarant are moody, rude and careless, i saw one of the people that work by the pool kick a glass over and it smashed while he was putting away the sunbeds and i went and told him off haha. fool. umm, the room smelt damp and dusky, looked dull, it was farrrr too hot in the rooms cause of no air conditioning, how stupid. the water in the shower took literally 2 hours to drain out, so wasnt a good idea to have a bath tbh. the reception of the apartment was in the town which was also stupid if you hadn't have been there before, luckily i had been to son bou before but stayed in cala n forcat (much better.) good evening entertainment in town if you like to drink, beach about 5 minute walk away, lifeguards are really good and aware, i was surprised. tried to find somewhere where you could hire a jet ski, but failed miserably. restaurants were good but the food was kinda all the same thing, and greasy for that matter. wouldn't go back there.

" We have just come back from Son Bou.... "

We have just come back from Son Bou. Enjoyed 14 days of beautiful clear blue sky. Really enjoyed our holiday - we stayed in Zone 4 at Son Bou Gardens in two ground floor apartments about 100 metres or so from the maze and the private San Jaime Club complex (the one with the water slides and where the nightly entertainment is).

Apartments were basic but very adequate - we had ants but you are in a mediterranean climate and so are part of the territory - just remember to keep your floors clean. Only thing we could have done with was a more regular change of the bed linen - it was done once in the two weeks. The area is nice and flat which we had hoped for given one of our little boys is disabled and is in a walker - apart from the steps at the pool lots of ramps in place which made access for him really easy. However I would not have liked to have stayed at some of the apartments up on the hillside so we chose well and review sites like this really helped our choice.

We spent our time at the San Jaime complex which was relatively quiet (I suspect as the English school holidays kick in it will get much busier)- which we only found at the end of the holiday is supposedly private - you have to pay 5 Euros for a lounger each day so like many people we just bought lilos (which they say are not allowed but are) and an umbrella at the little shop. We did venture to the beach one day which is spectacular - go down at sunset as well - but preferred the pool area. Our kids loved the slides which we did each afternoon and the girls who ran it were really great with them.

Eating out was very adequate - most nights we walked along to the little commercial centre (5-10mins) where there is plenty choice - nothing gourmet - but perfectly adequate (although I'd recommend avoiding the Chinese restaurant which does the buffet - not great). After dinner each night we went to the little Italian ice cream shop round the corner from the main reception in the commercial centre - you have to try it. There is also a little playpark/funfair at the commercial centre which we went to a few nights. There is also a great little patisserie just round the corner from the laundry in the Son Bou Gardens complex - the donuts and pastries are to die for. We did self catering lunch and breakfasts - basics are expensive at the little supermarket but c'est la vie. You can also get carry out pizzas and stuff at a number of places which we did a few times.

Plenty to do here during the day (little play park, great pool, slides, maze, etc) although we did not do the nightly tribute/circus act thing. We did not do any organised trips but did take the bus on two days to Mahon for the market ourselves (which is too far away from the port to walk to) and also went to Cuitadella on the west of the island (only about 45 mins on two buses) which is really lovely and worth a visit. The main reception staff were really helpful and we did not need the help of the rep during our stay. As an example we reported our toaster broken and our need for a few more towels one evening at the main reception and they got delivered two hours later at 11pm (great service).

Would definitely go again

" Excellent resort with plenty to do... "

Excellent resort with plenty to do especially for the kids. Lovely apartments and gardens with a choice of pools, restaurants and evening entertainment.

The beach is great although do be careful not to wander too far down as you soon hit the nudist area although it didn't seem to be an issue.

We hired a car for the 2 weeks and spent plenty of time exploring and visiting other resorts. We also hit upon a great find at the Lladro centre on the main road just outside of Citadella, which offers a great kids play area and pool and, believe it or not, all for free - well worth a visit.

I'd certainly recommend Son Bou and we look forward to going back in the near future.

" Best holiday, five of us went 2... "

Best holiday, five of us went 2 adults and 3 children aged 5, 11 and 13.

POOLS: Were clean but cold and very big children's area available.

WEATHER: Well we went in Oct so it wasn't to hot just right no rain.

APARTMENTS: Were very clean comfortable and big. 4 cooking rings. The grass was cut.

FOOD & DRINK: A lot of bars and restaurants, we went to Club San Jamie every night for entertainment very good and in Club San Jamie there was a room with P.C and internet, you had to pay though.

I would recommend to anyone.

" Went to Son Bou Gardens with another... "

Went to Son Bou Gardens with another family, 5 children altogether ages 11-19. Stayed in Zone 4 which was good for access to Club San Jaime and swimming pool but also good if you wanted to sit outside apartment in quiet surroundings. The apartments were clean and tidy but really need to be up-dated. Brought our own lilos for the pool and beach as sunbeds and parasols very expensive.

The pool was excellent and plenty of space around it even in August. The beach also excellent and the sea very warm, clean, and safe. Our main problem was the food. Not many restaurants and not a good choice, everything was with chips! The menu seemed to be the same whichever place you chose. The entertainment at Club San Jaime very good, even if it was a bit cheesy!

The gardens and surroundings of the complex are very well kept and everywhere very clean and tidy. A good place for a family holiday.

" I was so nervous about going on a... "

I was so nervous about going on a holiday that we booked at last minute. I loved this place and found all the staff very pleasant and the apartment was very clean. The entertainment was good and the two children enjoyed the pool which had a lifeguard on duty from 10-30 am to 6-30pm.

The restaurant was more expensive at the club and we found many places do the same food for half the price. The beach was a bit of a walk away but even that was clean. To be honest the whole town was very clean and the gardens surrounding the apartments were kept very well. Everyone we spoke to had been there several times before which means that it must be good... We are hoping to go back again next year...

" Great location for families to enjoy... "

Great location for families to enjoy the four swimming pools and fantastic beach OF Son Bou.

My 1 & 4 year old daughters loved every minute. The evening entertainment "mini disco" was great for the children and some of the shows were surprisingly good to watch.

The apartment was fairly basic, but nothing wrong with it in any way. I did see ants outside on our balcony but not in the actual rooms. Considering the amount of time spent in there it made no difference as they were clean and quiet.

Weather was great and the resort had a real calm, laid back feel. A very enjoyable week away and I will definitely go back to Son Bou Gardens. A great place for young families to enjoy.

Ps: the train ride around the resort at 6Euro per person (including babies and children’s) is not worth the money and beware of the prices charged for the sunbeds on the beach.

" Grandma, mum, 3 year old and 5 year... "

Grandma, mum, 3 year old and 5 year old.

Excellent accommodation - renovated over the winter - spotless. Set in pretty well maintained gardens. Would comment however that second bedroom is really only suitable for children.

Swimming pools, surrounding areas, and bars clean and well run. Friendly staff.

Good entertainment for children if wanted. We, however, spent all our days on the beach which is fabulous (10 minutes stroll). Beach bars serving basic good food, great sangria, and again very friendly staff.

Food in resort a bit limited and with a very "British" feel but good tapas can be found.

First Choice reps were excellent.

We will DEFINITELY take the children back for half term next year.
