nothing to do in the evenings at the apartments, staff at the restuarant are moody, rude and careless, i saw one of the people that work by the pool kick a glass over and it smashed while he was putting away the sunbeds and i went and told him off haha. fool. umm, the room smelt damp and dusky, looked dull, it was farrrr too hot in the rooms cause of no air conditioning, how stupid. the water in the shower took literally 2 hours to drain out, so wasnt a good idea to have a bath tbh. the reception of the apartment was in the town which was also stupid if you hadn't have been there before, luckily i had been to son bou before but stayed in cala n forcat (much better.) good evening entertainment in town if you like to drink, beach about 5 minute walk away, lifeguards are really good and aware, i was surprised. tried to find somewhere where you could hire a jet ski, but failed miserably. restaurants were good but the food was kinda all the same thing, and greasy for that matter. wouldn't go back there.

We have just come back from Son Bou. Enjoyed 14 days of beautiful clear blue sky. Really enjoyed our holiday - we stayed in Zone 4 at Son Bou Gardens in two ground floor apartments about 100 metres or so from the maze and the private San Jaime Club complex (the one with the water slides and where the nightly entertainment is).

Apartments were basic but very adequate - we had ants but you are in a mediterranean climate and so are part of the territory - just remember to keep your floors clean. Only thing we could have done with was a more regular change of the bed linen - it was done once in the two weeks. The area is nice and flat which we had hoped for given one of our little boys is disabled and is in a walker - apart from the steps at the pool lots of ramps in place which made access for him really easy. However I would not have liked to have stayed at some of the apartments up on the hillside so we chose well and review sites like this really helped our choice.

We spent our time at the San Jaime complex which was relatively quiet (I suspect as the English school holidays kick in it will get much busier)- which we only found at the end of the holiday is supposedly private - you have to pay 5 Euros for a lounger each day so like many people we just bought lilos (which they say are not allowed but are) and an umbrella at the little shop. We did venture to the beach one day which is spectacular - go down at sunset as well - but preferred the pool area. Our kids loved the slides which we did each afternoon and the girls who ran it were really great with them.

Eating out was very adequate - most nights we walked along to the little commercial centre (5-10mins) where there is plenty choice - nothing gourmet - but perfectly adequate (although I'd recommend avoiding the Chinese restaurant which does the buffet - not great). After dinner each night we went to the little Italian ice cream shop round the corner from the main reception in the commercial centre - you have to try it. There is also a little playpark/funfair at the commercial centre which we went to a few nights. There is also a great little patisserie just round the corner from the laundry in the Son Bou Gardens complex - the donuts and pastries are to die for. We did self catering lunch and breakfasts - basics are expensive at the little supermarket but c'est la vie. You can also get carry out pizzas and stuff at a number of places which we did a few times.

Plenty to do here during the day (little play park, great pool, slides, maze, etc) although we did not do the nightly tribute/circus act thing. We did not do any organised trips but did take the bus on two days to Mahon for the market ourselves (which is too far away from the port to walk to) and also went to Cuitadella on the west of the island (only about 45 mins on two buses) which is really lovely and worth a visit. The main reception staff were really helpful and we did not need the help of the rep during our stay. As an example we reported our toaster broken and our need for a few more towels one evening at the main reception and they got delivered two hours later at 11pm (great service).

Would definitely go again

Excellent resort with plenty to do especially for the kids. Lovely apartments and gardens with a choice of pools, restaurants and evening entertainment.

The beach is great although do be careful not to wander too far down as you soon hit the nudist area although it didn't seem to be an issue.

We hired a car for the 2 weeks and spent plenty of time exploring and visiting other resorts. We also hit upon a great find at the Lladro centre on the main road just outside of Citadella, which offers a great kids play area and pool and, believe it or not, all for free - well worth a visit.

I'd certainly recommend Son Bou and we look forward to going back in the near future.

Best holiday, five of us went 2 adults and 3 children aged 5, 11 and 13.

POOLS: Were clean but cold and very big children's area available.

WEATHER: Well we went in Oct so it wasn't to hot just right no rain.

APARTMENTS: Were very clean comfortable and big. 4 cooking rings. The grass was cut.

FOOD & DRINK: A lot of bars and restaurants, we went to Club San Jamie every night for entertainment very good and in Club San Jamie there was a room with P.C and internet, you had to pay though.

I would recommend to anyone.

Went to Son Bou Gardens with another family, 5 children altogether ages 11-19. Stayed in Zone 4 which was good for access to Club San Jaime and swimming pool but also good if you wanted to sit outside apartment in quiet surroundings. The apartments were clean and tidy but really need to be up-dated. Brought our own lilos for the pool and beach as sunbeds and parasols very expensive.

The pool was excellent and plenty of space around it even in August. The beach also excellent and the sea very warm, clean, and safe. Our main problem was the food. Not many restaurants and not a good choice, everything was with chips! The menu seemed to be the same whichever place you chose. The entertainment at Club San Jaime very good, even if it was a bit cheesy!

The gardens and surroundings of the complex are very well kept and everywhere very clean and tidy. A good place for a family holiday.

I was so nervous about going on a holiday that we booked at last minute. I loved this place and found all the staff very pleasant and the apartment was very clean. The entertainment was good and the two children enjoyed the pool which had a lifeguard on duty from 10-30 am to 6-30pm.

The restaurant was more expensive at the club and we found many places do the same food for half the price. The beach was a bit of a walk away but even that was clean. To be honest the whole town was very clean and the gardens surrounding the apartments were kept very well. Everyone we spoke to had been there several times before which means that it must be good... We are hoping to go back again next year...

Great location for families to enjoy the four swimming pools and fantastic beach OF Son Bou.

My 1 & 4 year old daughters loved every minute. The evening entertainment "mini disco" was great for the children and some of the shows were surprisingly good to watch.

The apartment was fairly basic, but nothing wrong with it in any way. I did see ants outside on our balcony but not in the actual rooms. Considering the amount of time spent in there it made no difference as they were clean and quiet.

Weather was great and the resort had a real calm, laid back feel. A very enjoyable week away and I will definitely go back to Son Bou Gardens. A great place for young families to enjoy.

Ps: the train ride around the resort at 6Euro per person (including babies and children’s) is not worth the money and beware of the prices charged for the sunbeds on the beach.

Grandma, mum, 3 year old and 5 year old.

Excellent accommodation - renovated over the winter - spotless. Set in pretty well maintained gardens. Would comment however that second bedroom is really only suitable for children.

Swimming pools, surrounding areas, and bars clean and well run. Friendly staff.

Good entertainment for children if wanted. We, however, spent all our days on the beach which is fabulous (10 minutes stroll). Beach bars serving basic good food, great sangria, and again very friendly staff.

Food in resort a bit limited and with a very "British" feel but good tapas can be found.

First Choice reps were excellent.

We will DEFINITELY take the children back for half term next year.

I went with my mother and my 2 children (5 & 3). We had a fabulous time. The apartment was spotless and its location was excellent.

We all loved the beach and spent most of our time there or in the beach bar! The pools and surrounding areas were very clean and there was nightly entertainment for the kids in the form of a disco.

I would recommend anyone who has children to go to Son Bou Garden Apartments. We might even go again next year!

We stayed at Son Bou Garden apartments. Zone 4. This was an ideal location for all of the complex.

The apartments were very clean and tidy. The kitchen had everything we need apart from a kettle; we had a metal teapot thing on the gas stove! The kettle didn’t turn up until day 3 once our neighbours complained they didn’t have one, and then the whole row got one!

We did have a problem with ants in the living area and the bathroom, as did our neighbours; I had read reviews of people saying ants were a problem. I would suggest that you buy ant spray on your arrival. The seating in the living room was not that comfortable but if you only sleep at the apartment as we did it will not be too much of a problem.

For the money I guess it was ok, clean and tidy is the main thing.

Son Bou is a great area, the beach is excellent, we had a couple of great days on it, long beach and white sand, blue skies and warmish sea that you can walk out for miles it seems.

Loads of great bars and places to eat, lots of small gift shops to look around, my son was impressed with a shop that sold quick silver things!

Sant Jamie complex was great, nice pool although a bit cold in may!

Great evening entertainment, good food, and very friendly staff.

Great bakers next to the medical centre, would suggest a visit, doughnuts are out of this world!

A great place to go only down side be prepared for the wind, it’s quite strong at times.

Overall we had a nice holiday and I would recommend to families. The grounds were very well kept and clean. The apartments were clean but they urgently need updates, the kitchen was really tatty and old. Also the bathroom are very dark and depressing, a white suite and tiles would not go a miss!

The beach at Son Bou was great but buy your own parasol before you come over, it was very expensive to hire.

Entertainment was good although a little cheesy but the acts gave it their all.

Best Restaurants;

Boni's - always friendly and accommodating and the food was way better than the others, highly recommended. We heard that San Andres was nice but we did not get the chance to go there.

If you want top quality food which was more expensive than the usual resturants then go to The Cobblers in Alaior, the food was great in a lovley setting. Also San Jose just outside Mahon on the Mahon-Fornells road; real vegatables cooked just right!

Worst Restaurants;

Do not go to Las Dunas, when we visited, all our food was overcooked but cold! It was inedible. When we complained they were so rude and arrogant, we said that we would not pay for the meal but we would pay for the drinks, they threatened to call the police! We did not pay.

We went to Son Bou Gardens with our 2 children aged 6 and 3. Stayed in zone 5 which was a bit of walk from the centre for the children but fine for the adults. The apartments were fine, basic but clean. They were set in beautiful gardens and was peaceful when we went in early July, even though we were very close to the pool. Have to pay for sun beds in the main pool but they are free in the smaller pool, although people seem to start queuing for them very early, and they are gone in seconds.

Son Bou itself is a quiet resort, which is what we wanted with 2 young children, the beach is beautiful and if you buy yourself an umbrella and beach mats at the beginning of the holiday you save yourself a fortune! There were a few good restaurants but they all served similar food. Boni grill was our favourite, the staff were very friendly and the food was very good.

I would recommend hiring a car from the airport as Menorca is a beautiful island and there is so much to see a cab to the resort from the airport cost about 25 euros.

I would definitely go back there again, my children loved it and if you are looking for a peaceful base to explore the island from, I would recommend Son Bou gardens. I cant comment on the entertainment as its not our sort of thing, we prefer to go for a nice meal and then a few drinks back at the apartment.

All in all Son Bou gardens is excellent value for money we paid £165 for a 2 bedroom apartment in early July, although this was last minute. I would recommend it to anyone with a young family.

What can I say about Son Bou? It is perfect!

We have now being going to Son Bou for 6 years and this year was our 12 visit. What more can I say.

Son Bou Garden apartments are very basic, but that's all you need on a self catering holiday, as long as they are clean, that’s all that matters.

The resort its self is perfect for a family holiday. There are no "Loud and Lively Disco's" just really friendly restaurants and bars.

Andres is the best restaurant in the resort, but is it advisable to book a few days in advance. Joseph's is an English bar which sells a lot of English draught beer (i.e. Strongbow, John Smiths). The Kit Kat bar is also another very good English bar, but both bars (as well as all the others in the resort) can be a bit pricey, but so it every bar you go into nowadays.

The beach is out of this world, lovely white sand and crystal clear water.

If you are thinking of a holiday in Son Bou, I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
