Reminded me of my visit to Gracelands...
from JoKavanagh
I have stayed in Sitges three times now, each time a different hotel, each hotel has its pros and cons. Having read the reviews posted here I was thoroughly apprised of the hotel's pros and cons. Yes, the decor was dated but this added to the charm. The room was probably the cleanest I have ever stayed in. The beach was perfect, although I prefer waves in my water. The sea was warmer than the pool, so I only used the pool once. If you like your sea a bit rougher and don't mind pebbles/rocks, there is another beach which no one used when we were there, but you'll have to find it yourself. I don't sunbathe as a rule, as I am one of those unlucky ones who attract all the flies and wasps - but the poolside was pleasant The plumbing is very noisy, but that was the only noise. The food was disappointing. The breakfast buffet was OK - fresh fruit, cereal, cold meats, cheese, boiled eggs, variety of bread. I don't go on holiday to eat English food. We were half board, although we had no intention of eating in - but there was a very untimely torrential downpour on the Sunday evening, so we had no choice. The dinner was self-service, but disappointing. It reminded my husband of his holidays at Butlins. There was no 'Spanish' or should that be 'Catalan' taste to the food. I understand that the lunch menu is better. I found no problem with the bar staff, or the restaurant staff. Overall I enjoyed my stay, although I don't think I would stay there again.

We loved this hotel. It is seriously in need of updating from its 50s/60's, plenty of gaudy pastic. bakalite and formica decor and the white exterior needs repainting. But in a way it was so out of date it was retro. Check out the ladies loo downstairs from the bar....horrendous read and black decor. Our room was huge but again outdated with very noisy air conditioning and plumbing. But the view, straight onto the excellant beach was great. Quite a small pool, but very deep in places(4m). Staff very friendly, food excellent in my opinion, though expensive compared to local restuarants. We enjoyed sitting in the bar watching the tourists and locals paradeing on the promenade that runs all the way to Sitges, 20 mins walk away. There were a few gay couples around, but in the minority. An experience. We would certainly go back. ------------------
Great Hotel - 30 years ago!

We stayed at the Hotel Terramar for a night in July 2005. It’s an imposing monstrosity on the edge of Sitges, like a huge beached ocean liner. A good half an hour walk from the centre, it’s a dated and slightly dilapidated hotel. The interior is kitsch it’s so outdated, with 1970’s style leather sofas and swirly carpets that spread like a virus from the reception area up in the lift & into the rooms. (I must admit I’d never previously seen carpeted hotel rooms in a Spanish hotel before). The rooms are all in desperate need of renovation - with leatherette beds, and scruffy dark wood veneer furniture and doors . The pool area is OK, (although the pool is only 3/4 full) but walk around the grounds with empty fountains and mosaic tiles crumbling off , and the overwhelming feeling is of a run down hotel that really was luxury - unfortunately that was 30 years ago. All this for the princely sum of €120+IVA for a double room - sadly not 1970’s prices. It does have some charm but it’s just not worth the money. I would recommend an alternative, the Hotel Capri ,which is closer to town and a much better deal, though currently (July 05) shut for renovation. Sitges itself is a charming, lively seaside town, with a long sandy beach, happily you will not find any British pubs selling fish & chips. The famed gay community adds to the cosmopolitan feel of the place but doesn’t fully take over. There are plenty of good quality restaurants, try the northern style tapas bars of Eguzki and Izarra, where you pick tapas off the top of the bar, and settle the bill at the end with the amount of cocktail sticks you have (usually eating a lot more than you’d planned it’s all so tempting.) Sitges is a great place to stay for a weekend or combine with a city break to Barcelona. (it’s only a 20 minute train journey away),
Your own beach

Just back from 3 nights from 22nd Sept.04. 28 degrees sun and an adequate size hotel pool across the road from a lovely beach at the end of the seafront promenade of huge beautiful private villas. After daytimes in Barcelona sight-seeing it was a joy to get back to the hotel and its beach. The large twin room, with en-suite sitting room, was quiet and very clean and good air conditioning. The view from the balcony up the promenade and across the bay is lovely. Bedroom decor, whilst in good condition is horribly dated and a bit drab in colour scheme. Its tolerable and offset against the space and location, good. A 3* not 4* rating for public areas. Rates very good and the 15 min.walk to restaurants etc is a pleasure. Train into Barcelona was easy. The Terramar beach has a breakwater so its is horse-shoe shaped and makes a great sea swimming area. Sand very clean. Sitges IS a mostly gay town so you cant avoid seeing gay couples though none seemed to stay in this hotel. Its a very safe and upmarket resort and Terramar is the penultimate hotel along the promenade so not as crowded as nearer town centre. Would stay there again. Perfect to relax. No need to eat in as local restaurants are excellent especially for seafood. Evening entertainment is provided but didnt stay in too see it. Recommended for pool, cleanliness and location.

Ideal place to stay for visiting Barcelona
from A TripAdvisor Member
I have just returned from my stay at the hotel Terramar, Sitges (July 2004.) I was not disappointed with the hotel, and found that other trip advisor comments were, on the whole, true. The Terramar is a large hotel and the rooms are a little "tired," however, they do have everything you need and they are kept very clean. The public areas of the hotel are very spacious and the staff could not have been more helpful. The Terramar has large gardens which are well maintained and a good place to find some shade for a quiet afternoons reading. It is ideally located opposite a nice cove shaped beach which is great for small children. I particularly liked the area in which the hotel is located, it is quiet but near enough to the night life if you want to take part. A regular shuttle train/bus runs almost continuously into Sitges and only costs 1.40 euros. The purpose for my trip was really to explore Barcelona, and this I achieved; I didn't want to stay in the city as it is fairly oppressive at this time of year, and as Sitges is only a 40 minute train ride away (and only 4.50 euros return!) it was ideal for my requirements. I have had a great stay and no doubt will return again in the future.
Nothing wrong with the barstaff!

I've been going to the Terramar for a number of years and always look forward to the next visit. I've been to other hotels, which are, perhaps, smarter, but with not the friendly atmosphere of the Terramar. Tony, Manel (Pool Bar) and his assistants and Pepe Ibanez (anywhere!) have always been most welcoming. Only another 6 weeks!
good value for the price

This hotel is a bit old fashioned but it is really value for money. I have booked a room via a touroperator (Neckermann) in the Netherlands and the rooms were cheap (around 55 euro) and half board was inclusive. The hotel is quiet and situated at the end of the boulevard. It takes 20 minutes to get in the centre. Advise: hire a bike for a week!

quiet and great value for money

Stayed at the Terramar Hotel / Sitges in july of 2003. The hotel is not brand new, but in ecsellent condition. Very clean, comfortable and not as noisy as many places in 'downtown' Sitges. 20 minutes walk along the beautiful sea promenade to the city center. Meals are about average, don't expect a gourmet restaurant. Lunch (a la carte) much better than dinner (buffet). Excellent value for money.

This is the worst 4 star that i have ever stayed in. It was probably 4 star 30 years ago. The carpets were threadbare the rooms were drab. the hotel was in a nice position overlooking the sea in the quiet part of Sitges . Just a pity nothing has been spent on it since it... more
