" brilliant "

Just got back from week at can digus, can honestly not complaint whatsoever, we didnt eat there the first few nights, but when we did, we wished we'd ate there more... was great food, and quite reasonable. However some of the other restaurants offer menu of the day for 8 or 9 euros which were great. For a coffee I'd recommend the small cafe bar on the same street as the spar, la guapa or something similar sounding - was good because all the locals seemed to pass here and a great friendly atmosphere. However the apartments were great, and wonderful position. I'd go again and again... Quite a few mosquitos even at this time of year and you definitely need something to frighten them off... Great thanks to Juan and his staff. Even when our water heater broke the staff were very good, but laid back too. Couldnt complain about anything..Thanks Also a mention for Monarch who were brilliant throughout.

" The Ca'n Digus apartments are... "

The Ca'n Digus apartments are situated in the quiet residential area of Fornells, which until we reached Fornells proved easy to get to. The small, narrow one-way system in Fornells made it a little difficult to manoeuvre and park at times and the apartments do not have a designated parking area which didn't help the situation.

From the outside the complex didn't look very welcoming as it is on the inside. The inside is very neat and presentable with flowering climbing plants and an attractive pool with kiddie section and some of the rooms even have iron balconies and a spiral staircase to them. The reception is small with a large lounge area and TV and outside there are plenty of free sun beds and umbrellas to go round.

Our apartment consisted of a twin bedded room with a safe, an adequate bathroom, kitchen/diner with basic utensils and TV plus terrace leading onto the pool. The only dilemma we had was ventilation as there is no air conditioning in any of the rooms. Adjoining the apartments is the Ca'n Digus restaurant/bar which is convenient, great value and popular with Spanish tourists. The complex and restaurant is situated on the shoreline which is good for swimming and snorkelling although it has no sand just pebbles and concrete bathing area. Walk a further 2 minutes and you'll reach the centre of the pretty bustling fishing village of Fornells where you can find more restaurants mainly serving seafood. Fornells is renowned for its Lobster dishes and the king of Spain has been rumoured to dine here. There are a few gift shops but bars on the other hand are scarce.

We recommend car hire as it gave us the freedom to come and go as we please and to do as little or as much as we wanted in a day. Reading through the guide books of the Island you will find that the beaches are probably the most popular attraction here but don't be fooled that once you reach some of the 'off the beaten track' beaches you will be alone, this is not true and shocked us at time just how busy they can get. The capital Mao and the old capital Ciutadella are both worth a look around too.

We found this holiday relaxing and beautiful and we do hope that this helps you to make the right choice's to suit your needs.

" We booked Ca’n Digus Apartments... "

We booked Ca’n Digus Apartments because we wanted to stay in Fornells village (as opposed to the nearby Playa de Fornells holiday resort). Anyone who knows the island will know Fornells is one of the prettiest villages on the island, renowned for its sheltered bay, palm lined harbour and fish restaurants. However there is not much in the way of holiday accommodation there. After a fairly exhaustive search on the Internet, The Can Digus apartment complex was the only one we could find.

The price is at the budget end of the scale and the facilities are basic. The apartment we had was in good condition and clean and the only significant negative comments we have are:

1) No A/C. Not that you would expect this in a budget apartment, but Fornells is humid in July evenings and the apartment had limited ventilation.
2) Towels were changed twice and sheets once over our two-week stay.
3) No iron or ironing board provided.
4) No dedicated parking although on street parking was always available nearby.

The apartments are located on the seafront and on arrival they are a bit difficult to locate due to the one-way system in Fornells. The complex has around 30 apartments of various sizes and is based around an excellent, clean and well-maintained pool with sun loungers and umbrellas. Our apartment had a small veranda leading out directly onto the pool area.

The Sa Nasa bar/restaurant which is attached to the apartments, serves a wide range of good food and is excellent value. Both locals and tourists (many Spanish) would eat there in the evenings while their young children played contentedly on the small patch of sand on the seashore opposite. Although only a very short walk to the centre of the village, the apartments are not on the main thoroughfare. However if, like us, you have an apartment close to the restaurant, you have to compromise between closing the double glazed windows for silence and opening them for ventilation.

Fornells’ economy is largely based on tourism, mainly day visitors, and evening diners, but it is home to a number of small fishing boats and has a large local population. It retains a real village atmosphere. Although it has no beach of its own it is a short drive to excellent and uncrowded beaches on the north coast.

Cala Pregonda in particular is one of the most beautiful on the island and although you have a fair walk from the car park, it is well worth a visit. Another benefit of the location and one of the reasons we chose it, is the easy access to all parts of the island. Nowhere is more than 45 minutes drive away and the main roads are first class.

Overall, the Can Digus Apartments provided us with an excellent holiday and we managed to experience a lot more of the island than a standard resort holiday would provide. Although I would willingly have paid a bit extra for a few more luxuries in the apartment, the overall package was excellent value for money and we will certainly be considering a return visit.
