Quality Acropole Hotel

Nice is an absolutely charming city with LOTS of atmosphere so don't let anything get in the way of the sheer experience of being there. Rooms: Decent. Bathroom is modern although TINY, The hotel is located on a very busy street so the noise level is a major turnoff. We had to sleep with earplugs. We booked to stay at the Ellington for four nights mid-September. From outside and in reception, the hotel looks quite nice. However it is all down hill from there. The hotel was apparently renovated recently - but we found the furniture to be old and battered, the bed linen threadbare and the skirting boards were falling off. As soon as we checked in our room and tried to have a nap after our journey to Nice, we became aware of the traffic outside the hotel - four lanes of it to the front and two to the side. It is a fantastic hotel, with a very good location. the staff is very firendly and rooms well furnished.

I always read trip adviser for any hotel I am thinking of booking and am often put off hotels by what people write, but you shouldn't be put off the Hotel Ellington. We found it to be clean, centrally located and for the price we paid for it on the expensive French Riviera value for money. The reception staff were friendly, the room was spacious, clean and modern (although the refurbishment doesn't seem to have stretched to the bathrooms) and the breakfast buffet was great. All in all, I would have no problem reccomending this hotel... more

Good location in Nice, closed to shops and in a charming place... add some nice pictures and you should have a nice 4* French standard... BUT the service is just deficient, (i) valet parking took over 40 minutes to provide our car (20EUR service) (ii) room available 120 minutes after our arrival (iii) a total absence of professionalism As a whole, if one doesn't expect a quality service, place could be fine with a VERY cheap price and other hotels fully booked.

My wife and I had the misfortunre to stay in this hotel for three nights from Sunday July 18 at the end of a touring holiday of Provence. The 'box' we were allocated (102) was minute and after much argument with the reception staff, we were given a slightly larger room. If we had not prepaid, we would have left and found alternative accommodation. For the price the hotel was great. Centrally located, 5 mins form Train station and 10 min from old town Nice. Hotel is in a safe area, no problem walking about. Rooms small but clean with good maid service and effective air-con. Rooms suffer from road noise so take ear plugs but staff are friendly (although bar man likes to close up the patio early so no alfresco drinking after 11pm). Whilst not rally a four star it is a definite recommendation.

I had a great experience at Hotel Ellington! Sure the room was basic, but it was clean and the air conditioning worked well! Location was great, about halfway between old Nice (which was about a 5 min walk) and the train station (good for day trips to explore the region). I travelled with my sister and as two young women walking around at night, we always felt the location was safe. I would stay at the hotel again!

Upon approach, the hotel looks quite nice. The lobby is a sophisticated 1940s era decor. The bar is hip and comfortable, as is the outdoor patio. The staff is friendly and helpful. Then you get to your room - ugh! Not dirty or worn, just completely dull. Not one piece of artwork. Dull color palette. No clock. I've seen hospital rooms with more ambience. Luckily they must have renovated the whole place and hired new cleaning staff since the last reviewer was there. Bad luck for him!
