Grand Hotel

Stayed here for 3 nights at the end of September 2005. A very good hotel. Great staff. Food at breafkast and lunch was excellent. Breakfast on the open air terrace would just great. Could not take evening meal at they don't start serving until 9.30pm, but there are lots of places to eat within walking distance. The hotel is just opposite the waterfront and you can walk into and all around Ortigia easily from the hotel, and into the forum area of Syracuse also. This is a lovely hotel across the streeet from the bay on Ortiega Island. It's walking distance from innumerable resturants and shops. When you arrive, you realize that tourist standards have finally reached Sicily. The lobby's decor is beautiful. There is a common internet terminal. Unfortunately. the staff isvery rude. Stayed for one nite while touring Sicily. Nice room, parking was convenient. Private beach across the bay was terrific, chairs, towels, umbrellas and the beach was clean. Siricusa was great, terrific little restaurant called Osteria Mariana, down an alley, manga bene.

stayed for 2nites and left early. had a jr suite that had minimal basic furniture in 2 tiny rooms. the sleeping area had no air vent. room looked like a 2 star hotel. service was fair. would not recommend.

We very much enjoyed our stay at The Grand Hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful at all times. We have a wonderful duplex suite with great views over the water. Our room was spacious and clean. The breakfasts were great. We would definately stay here again and would highly recommend it.

Stayed two nights whilst touring Sicily. Very pleased with secure free parking arrangement across road from hotel (staff parked car for us on arrival ! ) Well pleased with our well equipped bedroom and bathroom. Booked sea view room, which is highly recommended, but as in a previous report we agree the windows are a little high so that the view can only really be appreciated while standing at them. This hotel is very well located just across the bridge to Ortegia. It's in a palazzo building converted to hotel use. High ceilings, duplex suites. Nicely appointed. Beautiful environment. Breakfast was great, and we ate on the roof deck each morning. Parking is directly across the street; no hassle. We did not eat dinner in the hotel: Ortegia has several very good restaurants to enjoy. BL

Elegant hotel in a perfect location. The guy at the desk was fantastic. The wonderful post modern decor! They put us in a suite which had a jetted tub and was on 2 levels. The upper level was basically a platform and open to the lower level which allows the tall windows (with electric shades) to be experienced on both levels.

The Grand Hotel is an excellent and elegant place to stay in Ortigia, Siracusa. The hotel is not too big and not too small and is located on a quiet pretty street right next to the sea. The rooms are spacious and hi tech with many buttons that are annoyingly difficult to figure out. Many of the rooms are built as duplexes due to the architectural configuration of the hotel. The prices are a bit steep but being in a special place like Ortigia, it's worth spending time in a special hotel.

Everything about this hotel feels expensive. The decor and furnishings were of a high quality and our room - although a little dark - was really very good. Breakfast on the rooftop terrace was a real treat. The only slight downside is the lack of a good bar in the hotel but that didn't matter too much as there are plenty to choose from on Ortygia. Another thing worth mentioning is that the hotel and its car park are blissfully easy to find - just on the right as you get onto the island. I'd definitely stay again.
