I suppose its what you want from a holiday but I disagree with the other comments. Yes there is a railway line, it did not disturb us at all. The pool is very good indeed with lots of sun loungers. The food was some of the best I have eaten, very Italian, if you want fish... more

One of the worst hotel's I've stayed in for a long time - sure its in a pretty place and very friendly staff. BUT... the rooms are the smallest going ... can't open the door or the chest of drawers as double bed just about fills the room, one small window with bars and... more

Not for the light sleeper
Stayed in June beginning a tour of Sicily, the room was very dark and quite small, as was the bathroom, there was no room to even store the suitcase. We were on the ground floor quite near to the swimming pool area, this was also a disadvantage because early morning (8am) we were woken by the staff banging and clanging sun loungers round by the pool which seemed to echo. The train kept us awake late night and early morning. The restaurant was lovely but the garden area a little tatty, the beach bar was well and truly closed and had been what looked like all year, i found this unusual for June. It was quite a walk from Cefalu and not a very pleasant walk at that, along a main busy road. When I reached Cefalu I was pleasantly suprised, lovely old town with great restaurants overlooking the sea. Sicily I have learned, is not cheap by any means, I think it was the going rate at about 130 Euros B&B per night. If I were to go back I would ask for a room away from the noise, Maybe away from the pool area
Charming but in need of attention
We have just spent a week staying at Le Callette and enjoyed a week of good food quiet and relaxation. The reviews I read on tripadvisor proir to going made me a little apprehensive about the hotel but I was so glad that I had read the reviews because I found the information about rooms really helpful when we arrived. We were first shown a room with separate sitting room and a terrace with a lovely vieiw of the sea that was part of a cottage/bungalow some way from the main building, it was rustic in its furnishings and quite dark inside and not what we expected from the pictures and description in the brochure-- so we declined and asked for a room in the main building with terrace and sea view-- there was no problem about this and we were pleased with the room we were given it was small but very clean plenty of wardrobe and drawer space the bathroom was adequate but had the smallest shower I have ever seen. Hotel exterior, pool and gardens all in need of attention and sun-beds without matresses are a painful experience!!Lovely dining room and excellent food-- Staff very serious except for our super maid and the Maitre D, The walk into Cefalu is 20mins and well worth it, a lovely old moorish town
What a lovely surprise
After reading some of the reviews on here I was a little worried as to what I had let my husband and myself in for but I was worrying for nothing. This is a lovely well run hotel, with excellent staff. Our room was a good size with balcony containing 2 chairs, table and parasol. It is well worth paying the supplement for balcony/terrace on the first floor as I noticed the ground floor rooms looked a lot smaller with shared terrace.Food excellent.Dinner 4 courses with plenty of variety and breakfast all the usual cold items with hot scrambled eggs and bacon.Oh and really yummy bread.Pool area nice also except for the loungers which are wooden and don't have mattresses. Not good for backs and other parts of the body!! All children were well behaved and well supervised by parents. All in all a very good hotel.
Not for families!
In a beautiful and relaxing setting this hotel is really for couples! We arrived during siesta and it was absolutely silent! The rumble of our suitcase wheels was highly embarassing and the only other sound was our 3 year old having a timely tantrum! Po-faces all round! Felt decidely uncomfortable as this is really not for families. Don't let the 'childrens playground' mislead you. It consists of a swing and mini roundabout! Great for a romantic child-free break!
Excellent, relaxing holiday
We have just returned from a weeks stay at Hotel La Calette and have had a brilliant time. It is within 20 minutes walk of the pretty old town of Cefalu. We enjoyed the walk into town every day as it provided much needed exercise to make up for all the gorgeous food - the walk did not put us off. Breakfast is simple but worth getting out of bed for, (which I often don't) and in a different room to the evening meal which was pleasant. The food was excellent, with vegetarian options that were very tasty, and the waiters were really pleasant and professional. We had a fabulous time - a very relaxing hotel in a beautiful location. The private beach was stony, quiet and idyllic, but close enough to the hotel and beach bar that if you had forgotten something it wasn't a disaster! Rooms were pleasant but not luxurious. (Remember to ask for the air conditioning to be turned on as it doesn't happen automatically). We have been to Italy on a number of occasions and have always enjoyed it, but found this hotel to be a pleasant change from the constant moped, traffic and ambulance noises. Even the train noise was barely noticeable in comparison with the usual traffic sounds and the pretty design of the hotel makes a nice change from the norm. We would highly recommend it.
OK if you like Butlins
I booked this hotel "blind" by reference to eg Rough Guide and online reviews. On arrival it was very very obviously not as expected. It is not so much a luxury resort as a (very slightly) upmarket Butlins. We were shown a standard room which was tiny and quite unacceptable. The crunch came with the "terrace" shared with the next room which was strewn with their underwear. Not to be recommended. Do not be taken in by the picture of the bedroom. When pressed, the man at the desk, Daniele, agreed that there was only one room like that--the others were of the size shown to us To the credit of the manager he agreed a settlement with me but that may have been because he didn't have knew the place was misrepresented.
Delightful Le Calette
We have stayed at the Calette on two occasions for a total of 5 weeks in 2002 an 2003. We have loved the place and the only criticism we have is of the size of the rooms. They are a little cramped but the air conditioning works even if it is a little noisy. The noise of the trains did not bother us at all as they pass quickly and are relatively quite. Not as intrusive as road or motorway noise. Food and service excellent and the peace and quire around the pool for 4 out of the 5 weeks was great. The beach is not easy but the sea is pleasant. Cheap local bus service to the town, which is a relatively easy walk away.
Not impressed
The Kalura hotel tried to to put me in here after an overbooking fiasco, was not impressed with what i saw so decided to move on. It looked a bit like a holiday camp.
The good and the bad
On the plus side, the hotel food, service and staff were better than expected. The setting is quite lovely, if you are interested in lounging at the pool, or hanging out in the bar. The public areas are tasteful and inviting. Unfortunately, the main train line runs within a few yards of the bedrooms, and there are plenty of trains all night! Even with the air on, and the windows closed, you can hear the trains thunder by. The room furnishings are adequate, but a little tired. Most rooms have a nice semi-private patio. It is a long, and somewhat tedious walk into town.
lovely hotel !
We stayed at Le Calette in July 2003. It is indeed a charm and relax hotel. Excellent food ! nice rooms, nice view.
