Pretty good
First off, this hotel has really good location. You can take 98 bus from the airport and for 4 eur and in 10 minutes you are there. There's a really short and pleasant walk to the old town and March aux Fleurs, and the hotel is just at the Rue Massena, great street for shopping. At the end of the street (5-10 minutes walk) there is a shopping centre: Galleries Lafayette. My wife was in heaven when she found it. Foodies beware of Rue Massena, many places on this street are just tourist traps, HOWEVER there are two restaurants worth mentioning - La Maison de Marie (French) and La Vicoletto (Italian). You can't go wrong with this two. Regarding the hotel itself, it's OK, but surely nothing spectacular. It's clean and the housekeeping is good. The front desk service is nice and helpful. We didn't have breakfasts in the hotel, we wanted to try local cafes instead. It was fun for us but don't expect to find something really decent for breakfast out in town, just regular French petit dejeuner with small coffee and few small croissants. Last but not least - this hotel claims to have internet access in the rooms. Well, it's true BUT not in every room and only WiFi and not free. So if you need to have internet access in your room make sure to indicate that in your booking request.
Great location
Just returned from a 5 day stay in Nice. This hotel is in a great location on the Promenade des Anglaises, close to the Old Town and also many cafes and shops. Most places are within easy walking distance. We chose a superior room with a sea view and were not dissappointed. It is well worth the extra especially as we got a good deal direct from the hotel website. We found the staff to be very pleasant and efficient. Would definitely stay here again.
One of the better Mercures
Sitting in the middle of the whole Accor Hotel range, you sort of know what you are going to get with Mercure- usually decent if not spectacularly luxurious accommodation and facilities. The Nice Promenade des Anglais is one of the better ones, partly as it has been spruced up and refurbished, though the wild colour schemes take some getting used to! We arrived early (11.30am) and as we expected, the room was not ready. No problem, we were given another one straight away, so that was very pleasant and friendly start. Nice clean room, good sized, sleep 3, well lit bathroom, with small balcony over the park and a side sea view. It was over a busy road, but the triple glazing was very effective indeed. Located just off the sea front, and less than 5 minutes walk from the Old Town, this hotel is excellent value for a short 2-3 day break in a most interesting town. Look elsewhere if you want luxury and extra amenities, but this hotel will suit most travellers on a moderate budget. Book in advance on Internet for best rates on accorhotels.com. Just one full block away from the sea front from the hotel is the pedestrian zone of Rue Massena, with many restaurants, though most seem to feature pasta and pizza as the main theme of their menus. The Mercure has a compehensive listing in the lobby, covering the Old Town too. But plenty of choice, and the same applies for breakfast. Many offer one at less than half the price of the hotel, and it's that little bit more adventurous too! The airport bus (no.98) stops on the sea front right by the hotel. Every 20 mins and €4 per person each way. The ticket allows unlimited travel on Nice transport that day. Nice is installing a new tram system so some sectors of town ( not the Old Town) are a bit in upheaval right now, but not that much interference with pedestrian traffic. No hesitation in recommending this comfortable hotel.
Recommended!
The Mercure Nice Promenade des Anglais is a great little hotel right across from the beach and on the same lane as lots of restaurants, bars and shops. Even thought it is quite a bustling touristy area, the hotel itself is lovely and quiet. The staff were all really friendly, helpful and polite and spoke good english. The rooms were not massive but were more than adequate in terms of comfort, bathroom facilites and storage. We booked on a B and B basis through an internet site and I'd recommend this as the breakfast, although nice is a little pricey at 15 euros. We plan on returning to Nice later in the year and would be more than happy to return to this hotel.
Good location
We just spent three relaxing nights in Nice. We were travelling on a budget and got a good deal at the Mercure. I would have to agree with alot of the reviews that it is a great location, its very clean and the staff are friendly. I would definately recommend it for a reasonable, cheap holiday. The bed was not very comfortable and for ladies, I would advise that you take your own hair dryer - the one in the bathroom didn't work very well! We would also recommend the BeefBar on Cours Saleya near the old town - the food was fantastic.
Excellent location & very comfortable room
Sat right on the beachfront of Nice, the Promenade Des Anglais occupies a perfect spot for the average holidaymaker. The hotel is very clean and sports funky pastel colours in the public areas and rooms. My room was a courtyard view (silent!) on the 3rd floor. Initially I thought the colour scheme a bit bizarre, but it grew on me and I think I liked it in the end!! Large room with remote TV, large desk, en-suite bathroom with large bath & stand in shower and toiletries. Breakfast on the 1st floor was extra but plenty of choice and a nice way to start the day. The City is very colourful - especially Vieux Nice - and the addition of Palm & Orange trees on every corner make you feel like you're actually further from home. Very nice hotel, friendly staff with good English understanding. Recommended.
Great Location and pretty good Hotel
Just returned from a very enjoyable 1 week at this Hotel thanks to Air Miles - Reception staff very friendly and willing - We were lucky enough to get a 2nd floor room with a sea view albeit on the side street (Not Sea Front) - Room comfortable and large Bathroom large but Shower screen seemed a little too small so floor was soaked after shower - Many excellent and reasonably priced Restaurants within easy access. Unfortunately it was Carnival week which is very busy and causes all sorts of problems with car access and this coupled with Road repairs, Tramway closures, temporary Road barricades and unhelpful police marshalling made access to the complex car park nigh impossible (Took very frustrating 1 and 1/2 hours one day) Car Parking was within same building complex and special rate for Hotel Guests BUT still 120 Euros for 7 days - If you're hiring a car bear this in mind as parking anywhere other than Car Parks is almost impossible Stay included breakfast which was very comprehensive although the sultry staff were very slow in clearing tables, replacing cutlery and supplying Coffee / Tea - We had to ask every morning - Would definately stay here again but would probably take breakfast at one of many local restaurants
All good things said are true!
Just returned from 5 nights here. Yes, great location, friendly staff (Jean Jacques at the front desk especially nice) all times of the day. We had the lowest priced room, no view except the police station but we spent little time there anyway. The room (with yes, a wonderful mattress) was very large, also the bathroom. Lots of counter space and desk space as well as flat screen TV. Quite large shampoo and lotion bottles by most hotel standards. We did not take breakfast (15 euros p/p-about $20!) altho I looked in and it was a nice room with buffet. Down the little street of Halevy we had the "dejuner Francais" of hot drink, good orange juice and hot croissant with butter and jam for 4.50 euros, enough for us. Beyond there are many restaurants with sidewalk entertainment at night (possibly that one could do without!). The promenade along the water has many places to sit and people watch and of course the old town and flower/antique market are not too far. It is a long walk to the train station but the direct airport bus is just at the hotel corner. All in all it's a great choice. We definely can recommend it.
5 days in paradise
