Hesperia Cordoba

This review should be rated 'poor' not 'terrible' but TripAdvisor forces one to choose between 'OK' and 'Terrible' - on this occasion this Hesperia was certainly not OK, it was POOR. I had booked this hotel for 2 reasons, firstly its position just accross from the old city and secondly for its beautifully described rooftop bar/restaurant with views of the city. The position is not ideal at the moment as the Roman bridge is still closed but the extra walk to the city did us no harm and we still had a room with a river/city view... more

The hotel is very nicely located across the old roman bridge from the Mesquita but that's about all that's nice about the hotel's location. It is in a residential area of Cordoba and not a nice area so as per other people's review here, I would definitely use the car parking facility the hotel offers, even though it costs you EUR15 for the priviledge - over priced, but you may save yourself many more EUR from a break in! The old roman bridge was still not open when we visited in April so you have the option to get a bus... more

The hotel was very pleasant - the bridge connecting it to the town was still shut, though it was only a quick sprint around the corner to the centre of the city. The room smelt a little smoky when we first arrived which we commented on to reception, and it was sprayed with a scent the following morning. The room was extremely clean. We were very impressed by the high standards of hygiene and the friendliness of the staff. The hotel has a great location next to the Calahorra (medieval tower) and the Roman Bridge, which is being restorated at the moment so you can't cross it. There's a new bridge a short distance away, so you can still walk to the city centre in 15 minutes. I enjoyed my 1-night stay at the hotel, which was clean and comfortable, with a spacious (for European standards) room and all amenities you look for in a hotel like this. During the restoration of the bridge the street in front of the hotel is very quiet, so there's no traffic noise.... more

Hesperia Cordoba Stayed here for 2 nights after Baeza. It’s a big, international hotel – quite a few coaches whilst we were there. It’s biggest selling point is it’s location – on the banks of the river with views to the Mesquita. Although the nearest bridge (probably 5 mins. walk) was closed when we were there (May 06), you can cross on the next bridge along and walk into the city. Hotel situated on S bank of river with views over the old town area of Cordoba. Ask for a front view room 2nd or 3rd floor for the views, traffic noise from the service road minimal. Excellent food and friendly bar service, breakfast very good but expensive if you only want coffee and a croissant - use local cafes for that. Rooms well furnished, clean a comfortable. Roman Bridge nearly opposite hotel provides direct access to the old town area but is currently closed for extensive repairs so the walk into the town takes around 15 mins.... more

This is a very nice hotel located just some minutes away from the Mezquita. You get wonderful views of the Mezquita from your bedroom windows. You only have to cross the bridge to reach Mezquita and Juderia. Rooms are comfortable and very well equipped and service is very friendly. There´s a wonderful roof terrace and a nice pool. Very reccommended.

Travellers should note that the Puente Romano, which was the bridge one block away from the hotel that led directly to the city center has been closed for construction as of today (10/17/05) for apparently the next 2 years. Pedestrians will now have to walk to one of the other bridges on either side, which would probably increase the transit time to 20-30 minutes, depending on your walking speed.

The Hesperia is located across the river from the Mezquita. If at all possible try and stay in one of the front facing rooms to have a view of the mezquita. The rooms and bathrooms are large and clean with all modern amenities. The only drawback may be the walk across the bridge to get to the middle of the city. However, the walk offers an incredible view of the mezquita at night.

I stayed one night, booked the room through Weekend Plan, which is a check system widely used in Spain by which you can get good rates on many hotels in Spain, and Europe. When I called the hotel to mention I would be using this system I asked for a room with a view and they asked for a 10 euro surcharge, which I thought reasonable since the check I used was 50 euros, taxes included, but not breakfast.
