not the best
Having looked at the hotel web site we were quite excited at the prospect of staying at a reasonably priced, modern hotel. We were mislead! Not all of the hotel has been modernised. On arrival our group of four were allocated 2 rooms. Neither were representitive of the web pictures, they were not only dark and dingy but the bed in one room was broken! This was duly swapped for a camp bed and the offer of a £10 reduction off the bill was the best that they could do as the hotel was full and another room could not be found. The broken... more
Restaurant Over Priced
A group of 6 went to the Restaurant at Episode Hotel. Service was very polite, but we waited a very long time for each course. We were sat at a table in the area adjacent to the Bar (not in the restaurant) and so had a constant stream of people passing us by all evening. Some of the food was cold and overall it was over-priced. We wil not be returning.
Great Stay
Overall I experienced a great stay here. The hotel is modern and my room was exceptionally clean (despite other reviews suggesting the contrary on this website). The food in the restuarant is excellent and actually very reasonably priced for the quality. I dont understand the "pretentious" comment of previous reviews. Will stay here again.
One to avoid
I don't like complaining about room cleanliness because the people who should take responsibility - those who recruit, train, manage and establish the systems - rarely do. Instead the poor migrant workers take the rap. In this instance, when I saw the unflushed loo, the hairs on the toilet lid, the stains on the outside edge of the bowl, I flipped. The room was shabby anyway - a view down a 'well'. When I complained at Reception, the young woman listened, and then said "Yes". To which I responded "Yes what?", whereupon, without a word of... more
worst service in the world, overpriced and grotty.
This was a disaster from the moment we arrived. The Episode Hotel is a wonderful old building and the decor downstairs is very nice. However we arrived during a very busy wedding party and waited 10 minutes dinging the bell at reception before we were finally served. The receptionist was a very rude and gruff man who gave us our key. We went up to our room and were a bit disappointed that it was incredibly dated. However, we were much more concerned about the noise, which was so loud we couldn't hear the telly properly. The lights were... more
Outdated Reviews/ Hotel Has Been Refurbished
Previous reviews are outdated as they were written prior to major refurbishment. Hotel now has excellent contemporary boutique feel whilst still maintaining classical features. Smart bar, exquisite food and great service madethe whole experience way above average.
Not Recommended
Not a good experience. Asked for non-smoking room given room no 7 which said non-smoking on the door but the room and surrounding area smelled badly of cigarettes. Compained to management, however no offer made to change my room. Bedside lamp did not work, plug in the bathroom sink broken, light flickered over the sink. Breakfast OK - although they ran out of yoghurt, water for tea was cold. Most staff indifferent. Colleagues joined me one day for breakfast which was very costly for what they had. I would not recommend this place... more
Going Downhill faster than a Bobsleigh!
I've stayed here in the past and was willing to overlook the pokey nature of the rooms for the fact that the location is very convenient. However this time I not only was the food bland and overcooked but I was also made to feel that the guests were a real inconvenience to the staff.
Poor
Noisy hotel, can here TV's from other rooms, makes you think the walls are made of cardboard as you can literally here everything!! Staff are pleasant although we were made to feel very unwelcome for dinner whilst wearing jeans and t-shirt!! was told by a waiter with a large black eye and a small plaster covering a cut the restaurant was fully booked all night, hotel did not look very busy to me. Breakfast was the only good thing about the 1 night accomodation. This hotel seems to think its 5star when I would rate it at no... more
A Very Unpleasant Experience
First impressions were poor as the car park was rather cramped and the general decor a little shabby. We reported problems with the plumbing (toilet did not flush and there was a dripping tap). No attempt was made to fix these, and the hotel duty manager informed us that he was not allowed to call a plumber until Monday, pointing out that this would cost the hotel money. When we checked out, we - not unreasonably - requested a discount. The duty manager told he was not authorised to resolve issues like this, and he also informed us -... more
