I stayed here last September, and thoroughly enjoyed my stay, but the hotel have made improvements, upon what was already a very good hotel, the most notable been The Green Room Restuarant, a fine dining experience not to miss out on, simply divine! There was a wedding... more

I stayed here during September, and after reading a mixed bag of reviews, I was more than impressed with with the service that I received from check-in to check-out. Upon check-in, I was offered to 50% discount voucher for their restuarant, which was and added bonus, which... more

I absolutely loved staying here as we had a cathedral view room. The staff were brilliant at what they catered for. As I am fussy with food my father let the catering staff know and they said we can look at the lounge menu as well. The meal was fantastic it was like we were... more

Really disappointed with this hotel, it is a 1960 building that should never have been built. Reception staff more interested in what they where doing at the weekend then giving good service, we wanted to know some information on tourist attractions and they couldn't be... more

An enjoyable weekend
We stayed for three nights, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. All staff very efficient and professional. Excellent central location near the Minster and restaurants (but don't try the the nearby Indian restaurant - staff morose and waited an hour for main course). Breakfast Friday and Saturday was self serve and items mainly cold, Sunday to order and excellent.. Did not have evenng meal in hote so no comment on this. But overall a very enjoyable experience at a good price.
Ok for one night
We stayed at this hotel for one night as we were going to see the Waddington Air Show the following day. The hotel is in a lovely location, opposite the Cathedral. As you walk into the lobby, it looks very modern and contemporary. The actual entrance is up some stairs and I could not see an obvious ramp for people that need wheelchairs, so call them before you book to check. We checked in with no problems and went to up our room. The room had a balcony and did not overlook the Cathedral as we did not want to pay £10 for the privelege. Our room overlooked a new house being built and when we went out onto the balcony the bulders were right there opposite, maybe 3 or 4 metres away, hammering and sawing. I wasnt too pleased about this as the builders could see right into the room. I went back down to reception and they were very helpful and changed our room. The next room had no balcony and overlooked the 'garden' which was more like a long and thin courtyard with a bit of grass. The rooms were very clean, however the decor is really bad!! The corridor seemed newly furnished as did the rooms but whoever designed them needs sacking!! The room had flat screen tvs, internet access which we didnt use and tea and coffee stuff too. Breakfast had a good selection of fruit, cereals, continental and english breakfasts and was a self serve buffet. Overall the hotel was ok. It had a very confused vibe going on with the modern lobby, bar and restaurant and the 60s style rooms!! I probably wouldnt stay here again.
A little over priced but a pleasant enough stay
As the reviews here are mixed, I thought it was worth trying a 2 night stay. Easy to find, large car park at the back, free for guests. Hotel receptionist efficient, but, did not go out of her way to make a particularly welcoming - welcome ! We had room 212, double facing the Cathedral. I had read the reports about "the bells", but, as I intended having a few beers each night to relax, I thought that I would be OK. Very pleased with the room indeed. Based on other reports here, they must have old and newly refurbished rooms. We must have had the latter. Clean, tidy, large, well lit room. Very impressive shower room. Tea/coffee/hot chocolate, biscuits and a large bottle of water. Double bed very comfortable. I could not get the air conditioning to work, but, that was probably down to the beer. Not sure if they turn off the bells overnight, but, I did not hear them until 7am. The bells and the traffic noise was enough to wake me at 7am. Fine as I needed to be up for work. I can appreciate if you are on holiday and want a quiet lie in, you are not going to get one, Sunday morning breakfast, English cooked to order, cereals, fruit, juices, toast and pastries. Tea and some of the best filter coffee I have had for ages. Monday breakfast same, but, buffet English help yourself - well happy with that. Work was paying, but, if it was my money £87 a night a little over priced I think. Judging by how few guests there were around on both days, I think others must think the same. £67 a night would be more realistic. Would I go back ? sure would and am in fact in a few weeks - work paying again :O)
Lush food at The Lincoln
We initially chose The Lincoln as we thought their rates were extremely reasonable; it was our friends wedding and we thought we would make a weekend of it. The building is very 60's and does look a little bizarre when you first arrive but the interior is very 21st century and was a pleasant surprise for this 'post house look a like building'. The rooms are comfortable, light and airy and the interior was up to standard , you do get your moneys worth. The food and staff were remarkable and turned our stay into a joyous occasion. Next time we are up in Lincoln we will most definitely dine at The Lincoln even if we do not stay there as the food and staff are worth the visit.
Premier location, mediocre rooms
Located in probably the most interesting part of Lincoln, this sixties style hotel has commanding views of the cathedral, and is just minutes from the heart of historic Lincoln. If the weather permits, you can take tea or something stronger in the hotel garden. In inclement weather, then the hotel lounge is spacious and comfortable. Similarly, the rooms are clean and spacious. However do not look to closely. The views to the back of the hotel are a depressing conglomeration of poorly repaired masonry and shabbiness. Unfortunately, this is the same for the rooms and the rest of the hotel. Its location, space and cleanliness is spoiled by worn out furniture, mildew on the steel window frames and tired and dull furniture. On the positive side, the staff are friendly, efficient and charming. Combine this with a superb location in a beautiful city and the ‘sad’ rooms can be forgiven.
Awful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I booked this hotel over the internet after looking at the hotels owv website. There were no external photographs on the website only pictures of the Lincoln Cathedral and upon arrival we could understand why!! The outside of the hotel looked like a prefab 60's building. Then when we got inside the hotel it seemed to a bit better as they say you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. However the reception area looked a bit nicer but its a shame the receptionist's face and attitude didn't refelect this I don't think there was one smile or please or thank you during our transaction so we we made our way upto our room and things went from bad to worse!! The room was tiny and the items in it looked like something from the 60's, the bathroom was also tiny and the bath that looked like it should've been white once upon a time was actually a pale shade of brown. I've never stayed in a worse hotel in my life and believe me I've been to some places! I wouldn't have let my dog bathe in that bath and I would definitely not recomend this hotel to anyone!
An above average experience at The Lincoln
We have just spent a weekend at the Lincoln Hotel in the historic centre of the city. The situation of the hotel is first-class and close to cathedral, castle, bishop's palace and wonderful little shops. Couldn't have been in a better position. The cathedral view bedrooms are modern, well furnished and up-to-date and have stunning views of the magnificent cathedral, which looks wonderful when illuminated throughout the evening. We actually had a balcony on our room. Some of our fellow travellers did think that their garden view rooms could do with some refurbishment. The breakfast provided is a buffet which had everything and was constantly re-filled. Our weekend clashed with other functions at the hotel and we were also in a large group, so the staff had their work cut-out to look after us all, which they did admirably. The service was second-to-none. The food provided by the chef and his staff was really excellent and served on the dot and on hot plates (other establishment should take note). I would definitely recommend the Lincoln Hotel.
Not really sure how to take the Lincoln...
Firstly, if a Cathedral view is important to you when you visit Lincoln then do not stay anywhere else. The hotel is right across the road from the Cathedral and the view is stunning. The staff are also very helpful and friendly. However, the room we had let the hotel down a bit. The heating system in the room is rather unusual and we were unable to get it to heat the room to a normal temperature. It was either cold or boiling hot. Also it was positioned in such a way that if you closed the curtains you couldn't have heat - not good for a freezing night in January! The bathroom was nicely laid out but a bit grubby in the showers. If it wasn't for the great view I would have awarded this hotel 3 out of 5. It's a shame because with a few tweaks this could be a really special hotel because of it's location.
Great Location nearly spoilt by odd rooms
Lovely location. Stayed for 2 days 26th/27th December. We booked a balcony room which was great location overlooking the cathedral but the design left us reeling, odd mix of styles - scandic mirror in the middle of the room, desk resembling a hamster cage ! Bed was large and confortable, hairdryer didn't work, although they supplied another there was nowhere to plug in near a mirror - so hair styling was a bit hit/miss. The balcony needs cleaning, ciggie ends discarded. There was one bathrobe despite reserving as a couple, we were told that as mostly business visitors only one was needed ! Another eventually appeared. Lounge/bar area was warm and welcoming, breakfast was good even though served in the Lincoln room as the main restaurant was in use for dinners and thena wedding. Nearly let down by the tired and stuffy nature of the room. This hotel survives by location and friendliness of most of the staff. One caution, which we thought was a joke at first - we were asked to sign agreeing to pay for any soiling of towels, carpet, walls, sheets +++ so was left wondering what type of guest they normally have. Eating out - can recommend Ginos in the Bail for atmosphere and good value Italian food. The new Grille room at the White Hart has good food and if you go before 14th Feb they have 50% off on the food. We loved the cathedral bells - very soulful.
Better than exoected
Stayed for one Saturday night following a Christmas Do. 3rd floor room with a small balcony and a nice view of the Cathedral. Not sure what type of room in terms of Standard as it was booked for me. Room was not large but quite adequate and with sufficient space for a coffee table and chair. Contemporary styling with nice furniture but we found the bed a little uncomfortable. Bathroom again not large but clean and relatively recently re-furnished, even if you would not want to go in there after too many drinks, (the tiles were a little busy)!!! Good strong shower with plenty of hot water (always a guide to a hotel in my opinion). The public areas were nicely decorated but you can tell that this is a privately owned hotel, not one of a multi-national chain. Breakfast was buffet style with a good selection. I chose a "full-english" which was excellent, good quality products obviously being used. I have only ever used one other hotel in this area and that was some time ago so I cannot compare with others available locally but we had no complaints here. Guests needing hair styling or beauty treatments should try Mark Jeffs Hair & Beauty Studios. Cobb Hall, St Paul's Lane, Bailgate, a large upmarket establishment, which is a short walk from the hotel.
