The White Hart Reviews

Historically I would have said that the White Hart was the best hotel in Lincoln. Unfortunately their standards seem to have dropped substantially. I have recommended them twice in recent months and both times my visitors have been highly critical of the accommodation.... more

Den of Thieves
This hotel has thieves operating so be careful. I had my laptop computer and bag stolen on the 2ndMay 2007. Whoever took it let themselves in with a room key as there was no damage to the door. They were very meticulous and cleared the room of all valuable items. The manager was not very concerned either so it must happen regularly. Please be careful when staying at this hotel.
Superb Location
This is the second time I have stayed at this hotel. It is in a great position next to the cathedral. The view from our window was of the cathedral which is amazing when it is lit up at night. The service at breakfast was excellent and the room was bigger than a 4* in London, and it was only a standard room. The staff were all polite and helpful
Enjoyed our stay at the White Hart
Spent 2 nights at the White Hart just before New Year and had a very comfortable stay. The bedroom (double bed and single bed for daughter) was a good size and nicely furnished (although I wasn't too keen on the curtains!) Bathroom was spacious and well equipped. Floorboards squeaked in the hallways, but a small price to pay for being in such a charming old building. Excellent location, next to the cathedral (very good restaurant across the road - Zoot). Breakfast was very good and plenty of it.
Fabulous Hotel
Just had to write a quick review about the White Hart Hotel in Lincoln. We were visiting our son who is at Lincoln University and booked this hotel on the internet using laterooms.com. We chose the hotel for location to the city centre (0.2 miles) and its online price of £60 for a double. The hotel is located right next to the cathedral and is a bit of a nightmare to find if you're driving and don't know the area but once you find it, it will be worth getting lost a couple of times. A beautiful traditional style hotel, of fabulous comfort, narrow winding hallways, lovely rooms mixing the old and new and great food. For somewhere we just 'found' on the internet, I don't think we could have done any better and will definately return.
loved the hotel
We were a party of nine away for an after christmas break . we found the sevice and accomodation to be excellent ,we had booked through the hotel and the staff were only to pleased to find us the best deal possible our rooms were large those at the back had fantastic views of the catherdrel ,lovley large bathrooms and clean the staff were friendly and efficient ,the night porters on duty for those two nights 28/29 dec were very accomodating and quite happy to serve us with drinks in the lounge till late it was a breakfast to die for buffett style plenty of choice and hot with a good seletion of fruit cearal and breads available ,they made proper toast ( thick bread that looked toated not just warmed up ) hotel is due for refurb ,hope it dosen't lose its feeling of and old english hotel in an old english city would return again ,all party agree with review
First night bliss
My husband and I stayed here immediately after our wedding reception. We got room 400, which is the only hotel on the 4th floor with the most divine view of the cathedral. The room was spotless, decent sized bathroom, soft robes and a little sitting room. Service was efficient, breakfast had a good selection available. As we only stayed there very briefly, I can't comment too much further, but we found it very comfortable.............. and I was swung by THAT view of the cathedral! Friends who also stayed at the hotel in standard rooms commented that, like another reviewer, their rooms were in dire need of a refurb!
Good Confrencing, Very hot rooms
I was in the hotel for a business meeting and i have to say first impressions on entering the hotel are that it is very nice and charming, however previous reviews are correct it does need a good refurb and the price is too high for what it offers. The confrencing suite is excellent however and the level of hospitality is great with water buscuits and coffee always on hand. The rooms however are way to hot, I may be being harsh as at the minute the English summer is a scorcher but the hotel is in desperate need of Air-Con. One big thing that is going for the hotel is the food, such excellent choices on the menu and when it arrives it doesn't dissapoint. But again food prices are expensive and so are drinks.
In dire need of refurb
Lincoln doesn't have many nice hotels and this one is the nicest and the location is ideal. However, for the quality of the room you get, it is overpriced regardless of the excellent location. The hotel is drab and in dire need of refurb. We requested a non-smoking room, which we got. However, it was obvious that it was not a non-smoking room. The room smelled strongly of smoke. It's absorbed in the carpet, sofa and curtains. It needs a good cleaning to make it stink-free. Either that, or don't identify it as a "British Lung Foundation" non-smoking room. This is an insult to non-smokers who can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke. In addition, for a deluxe room, there is only a very small TV that doesn't even work properly. The mattress is too old and soft and we had an uncomfortable night's sleep. The bathroom is nice and large and it seems to have been refurbished recently. The toiletries were fine but a shower cap would have been appreciated. The loud and lively jazz music at breakfast was inappropriate for that time of the day. Lincoln is indeed a beautiful town and the hotel's location is perfect (the parking lot across the street is very convenient). We will stay there again but only if we get a better rate than what we originally paid. We paid too much for too little.
Lovely
Both myself and my husband enjoyed a lovely couple of days in this hotel. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Continental breakfast excellent,English breakfast OK. Definetly going back !!
Why are traditional British hotels so dismal in so many ways?
I stayed here whilst in Lincoln for a professional engagement, not for leisure. The suite I had was attractively furnished, and the bathroom was clean but there was an enormous cobweb in one corner of the sitting room - very poor housekeeping. The TV/radio did not work. At dinner I ordered a fillet steak cooked rare - it arrived overdone. The music and general ambience of the dining room were dreadful. I ordered room service breakfast - essential before starting a day's work - and nothing arrived. The duty manager admitted that they had taken my breakfast order but not dealt with it. I had no time for breakfast elsewhere, a very bad start to the day. The breakfast allowance was deducted from my bill, but I nevertheless paid over £100 for the night's accommodation and would not do so here again.
