De Vere University Arms Hotel

This hotel is really nice. There have been some fairly bad reviews for this hotel, this is my opinion. Length of stay - 7 nights(mum) 4 nights me: Staff - mostly very helpful. Downside were some of the bar staff couldn't be bothered (talking to other staff when guests were waiting, joking and fooling around behind the bar etc) but housekeeping, reception, porters couldn't have been better. This was the worst of four hotels my wife and I stayed in during a recent trip around England. Even though we had reserved a non-smoking room, our first room smelled strongly of smoke. And, our window was directly in front of one of the flood lights that illuminates the building in the evening. The staff was courteous and gladly put us in a new room. Well it claims to be four star but here are four reasons they might like to tighten up their act: 1. The window that would not close. 2. The over active central heating system - not that restful to be woken at 4am by a radiator that sounds like a gatling gun. 3. The bar man - who ignored us for 5 minutes before getting to serve us - alright I admit he was anice bloke but not that quick in an otherwise empty bar. 4. 12 pounds per night parking - somewhat expensive even for Cambridge.
