Feb 2012, tasha

I stayed at Dunston Hall about a year ago for my partners birthday. I had made a special effort and booked a four poster bed with champayne on arrival. When we got to our room there was no champagne even though i had been charged and specifically requested it for a suprise.... more

Nice but...
I will keep it brief. Impressive property, public areas well furnished and inviting. Rooms small, unbearably hot, no air con and window only opens an inch. Fridge/minibar not stocked and didnt work, extractor fan in bathroom extremely noisey. Rack rate is laughable - its worth about £85 a night, rack rate is double that. Good breakfast. Price of drinks absolutely extortianate. £4.50 for a SMALL glass of wine! - Take your own.
Hotel OK but fodd so-so
We stayed here after a birthday party at the hotel, for two nights. We were upgraded to a de-luxe room, which was roomy and had a very large comfortable bed. However, the room was very cold and the A/C did not work the first night and the housekeeping staff said this was because another guest in another room had complained that their room was too hot and a staff member had turned off the heating at a central point to a block of rooms. Even after this the heating/AC was very temperamental and there were no instructions in the room on how... more
not bad but not a £115 a night hotel
I grew up in norfolk, down the road from the hotel and always wondered what it was like. I went to a wedding reception at the hotel which was very well organised and the food was good. In the main bar there was a decent selection of proper beer (london price and IPA) as well. The room was medicore though, the bed was a standard size double or thereabouts and the pillows were worse than a travelodge... The bathroom was average... All in all, it wasnt dirty, but it wasnt worth 115 quid......
Beautiful hotel, that could do a little better
Have stayed here twice, and both times have been let down by the little things. The hotel is in a beautiful setting, adjacent to a golf course. There are some really excellent, friendly staff; but there are a few rude ones as well. If you can get a good deal, then this hotel is worth a visit.
All hat and no knickers!
I booked three rooms here for a Saturday night in May - a family occasion - five adults and a 6 year old. The price was close on £200 per room but the place looked lovely and I thought it would be a treat. On first blush everything looked fine, stunning building, beautiful grounds. I was horrified by the rooms, hot stuffy ground floor boxes with the smallest hotel bed I have seen for thirty years. I immediately asked reception for a change of room but it wasn't possible as they were full - indeed I was told they had turned... more
Great family break
Shaun from Castleford, Yorkshire UK. We have just returned from a short break - 2 adults and 2 children in a family room. We stayed in the new wing which is fabulous! The food was excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful. We will definitely return - a superb hotel in beautiful surroundings.
Great hotel
Stayed here overnight with my husband, although it was a business trip. Room was fine - the bed was very comfy with soft sheets (not highly starched like some places!), but what we liked very much was how friendly thestaff were, & the fab swimming pool & gym. I have to say that many a private gym would be proud of such facilities - we kept finding more & more rooms opening off each other with more equipment in each. The steam room & sauna are great too. Food wise, we ate dinner & breakfast there - both were very good - the carvery filled us... more
