Glad I stayed only one night
The best I can say about this hotel is its location opposite the Cathedral. The second best is the courtesy of the reception staff who were helpful to get me what I wanted and with a smile. All other features of this hotel were a great disappointment. The whole place is run down and needs a thorough overhaul. Public rooms like the lounge, the bar and the restaurant are smelly of last nights party, the glass roof of the restaurant appears not to have been cleaned for at least a year. The WC in the public area is inaccessible for the impaired... more
Nice Hotel, Friendly Staff
Stayed over Easter - fantastic location, opposite the Cathedral, right on edge of Town Centre. Wonderful selection of shops and restaurants and the Castle (Museum) is worth a look (go an hour before closing and just £1 to get in!) Had booked cheaply through LateRooms, but had executive bedroom, very clean and modern on top floor, with view of the Cathedral. Had problems with our toilet not flushing but staff could not be more helpful and matter was sorted to our satisfaction (and a reduction on the bill!). Had booked Room Only and... more
Glad I didn't have to pay!
All I can do is echo previous reports and say this place really is tired and in need of work. The bathroom was the biggest let down with broken floor coverings and rusty fittings. If you enjoy value for money I'd give this place a miss!
enjoyed the stay
Stayed for one night on business. Some of the negative reviews did cause me concern, however the experience overall was very satisfactory. The hotel is in a superb central location with free parking, there is a wide choice of restaurants within 5 mins walk. Room was large, clean and comfortable. The bathroom did let it down and although not too bad was in need of an urgent makeover. Cosy bar and friendly staff; restaurant looked ok but didn'try it with all the choice nearby.I had a front room which was a bit noisy from about 6.00am.... more
Tired, Dirty and Terrible Food
Stayed at the Maid's Head for Christmas this year. Staff were very friendly with exception of the bar staff. Outside of Hotel very tired, in need of decoration and along Wensom Street looking nearly derilect. Carpets in public rooms and in my bedroom were filthy. Arms of easy chairs in public rooms were also filthy and the seat of the chair in my bedroom very badly stained. Ausie Barman either had his mobile phone stuck to his ear or his feet up on the bar watching TV. You could not lean on the bar otherwise you would put your elbow in spilt... more
Our fears unfounded.
Having read some of the past reviews on this old hotel, our recent 4 night stay at this hotel was approached with some degree of trepidation. As usual though, the only way to prove either way is to do it yourself. My wife & I, (with some 50+ years travel-industry experience between us), found our room very clean, a comfy Queen-size bed, good shower, helpful staff, a lovely buffet breakfast, good security in this very central-city establishment, & ample, free parking for our car, in this easy to explore on foot, historic city. The Cathedral... more
In need of refurbishment
Stayed here for two nights over Easter. The hotel is in an excellent location - right next to Norwich cathedral, and ample parking in the hotel's carpark. Whilst the bedroom had a modern feel to the decor the hotel is in much need of refurbishment. The corridors did not have a clean feel to them and I agree with previous reviewer comments about the dirty net curtains and bathrooms. The bathroom was not unclean as such but just felt a bit icky. It was also quite a large size and with a refurb could be designed better. Breakfast... more
Grubby Hotel.
Myself and my sister have just spent 2 nights at The Maids Head Hotel in Norwich, on the website the rooms and restaurant etc look amazing but in reality its a different story. The Maids Head needs a lot of money spent on it, generally it was very tatty, the net curtains were completely filthy and as previous reviews have said it isnt cheap! However the staff were really friendly and the food was good so all is not lost.
