Dec 2007, Mr G Forrest

I was here on business for 1 night in Sept 07. Typical Travelodge- nothing to write home about but location-wise slam bang in the city centre. There is a decent pub next to the place that serves decent food and drink, watch the football and relax but the Travelodge is what... more

Hotel close to town, short walk to everything. Hotel is basic fine for an overnight stop but wouldn’t stay and longer. Nothing in bathroom at all so make sure you bring your own stuff, tea and coffee facilities ok. Shower only in room no bath, no good for small kids.... more

We only paid about 50 quid for a family room so for a value hotel it was very pleasant. The room was a little small and it wasn’t quite ready when we arrived. However the room was clean as was the hotel, the staff were friendly, and a nice supply of tea and biccies in... more

Stayed here when I went to the Everton match and it’s always a cheaper place to stay, however the service is all good at the Travelodge.
The staff were lovely and the rooms are basic and clean and if you’re only sleeping in there, then they are good value for money.
I would use this place again.

This hotel is well situated in the city centre just a few minutes walk from lots of shopping and nightlife. It's not far from most tourist attractions either such as Albert Docks. It's quite a big hotel (especially for a Travelodge) but is still in fairly good condition... more

This is a large, clean hotel based right on the edge of the shopping and nightlife district. It is easy to walk to a range of shops, bars and restaurants and about 10 minutes to Albert Docks. It is also close to Lime Street station and the local bus network. There is... more

Disappointed
Unlike others who posted recently I was not entirely happy with the hotel. My main gripe relates to the hotel parking (there isn't any!) and the difficulty finding the hotel. As already stated, the small car park adjacent to the hotel only has room for about 30 cars and is very busy. I had to put my car in a nearby car park in Queen Square which cost £6 for only 3 hours until a space became available in the nearby car park (To me the Travelodges are synonomous with cars...eg motorways....and therefore hotel parking is taken as read!). As for trying to find the hotel, it's really well hidden. I had great difficulty geting around the Liverpool traffic system (be warned ...a lot of roads are closed or blocked off as the city centre and waterfront area is one giant building site at the moment. Even the taxi driver I asked had difficulty directing me. Basically you head for the tunnel and it's just to the left before you enter tunnel, but beware... if you miss the turn you're heading for Birkenhead! I agree with the comments about the staff. I also had the misfortune to meet the grumpy male receptionist in the morning...despite my "Good morning" not a word in response. We also wanted a drink at night and bought two bottles of beer at reception....no change so we rummaged through our bags/pockets for excat money. I went down 5 minutes later for another for one of our family to be told no change. When I asked what happened to the loose change I had given her 5 minutes earlier she said she had given it to other guests. I persisted until eventually she said she could only give change to me in pound coins, etc. (Isn't that change?.........doh!) I paid £39 at internet rates and the rate advertised at reception was £65. Although the hotel is very central all the negatives listed above make it not worth it in my book. I won't be back again
good value great location
I regularly work in Liverpool and occasionally stop over. Booked one night here via travelodge's own site for an absolute bargain price of just £15!!!! As others have said, this is a basic, no-frills hotel, it's big plus-point is it's location which is right in the city centre. The reception area is tiny and didn't create the best impression; there was litter on the tables when I arrived (unforgivable in my book, regardless of the price/star rating of the hotel) and the reception desk itself is showing a few signs of wear and tear. Staff could do with some customer care training; maybe I was unlucky, the guy that checked me in was definitely having a bad day. There were problems with the computer system when I arrived which meant that the room key swipe cards weren't working, this meant that the poor guy on reception had to accompany every guest to their room to let them in. Obviously this was a bit of a nightmare for him but I feel that more could have been done to make/keep guests aware of the situation. Plus, if I'd have been that guy then I'm sure I'd have been running around as quickly as possible to make sure guests got to their rooms speedily, and doing my best to keep the time that reception was un-manned to an absolute minimum. Unfortunately the guy on duty was either unable/unwilling to do this and ambled about with little sense of urgency - a tad annoying really, it ended up taking best part of half an hour from arrival at reception to getting in my room. Top tip to the guy on reception - a smile and a friendly demeanour can go a long way to alleviating any stressful situation! No restaurant or bar, no problems there though. Plenty of places to eat and drink nearby. I'd definitely recommend giving the vending machines in reception a miss - they contain a fairly wide range of sandwiches, snacks etc but they are very pricey. Room was clean, bed comfortable, bathroom spotless. If you're a light sleeper then the traffic noise may trouble you (I'm not, so it didn't). There's a pay and display car park across the road, you need to pay to park between the hours of 0730 and 1900. Don't take any chances!!! I checked in fairly late so didn't have to pay to park; checked out early, got to my car at exactly 0730 in the morning. If I'd been any later I'd have got stung with a £60 parking ticket - the wardens were on the prowl even at that early hour! Can't argue with the value for money - I think fifteen quid is probably the lowest price I've ever paid for a city-centre hotel anywhere in the world! The rack rate on arrival was £55, which I guess would still represent reasonable value for a clean, comfortable, no-frills accommodation in any major European city. Overall, recommended.
Great Value
Myself and my three children stayed in the Travel lodge Liverpool City Centre at the end of July for a couple of nights for a bargain price of £15 a night! This was a special offer price but I would have been more than willing to pay the proper price as it is worth it. The Hotel was very clean and the room was just right for us. I didnt expect to have any complimentary tea and coffee and toiletries in the room for the price I paid but we did. I have stayed in other City Centre hotels which I have paid alot more for and they were not as good. The only thing I missed was a cooked breakfast in the morning, But they do have vending machines there for snacks and there breakfast box which looked ok but a bit expensive at £4.50 so gave that a miss and went to British Home Stores for a cooked breakfast which was lovely, 8 pieces of your choice for £2.49.
Girly nite out!!!
Stayed for one night for girly night out and chose here for the location and also to squeeze us in to "family rooms" as these cost the same but sleep 3 adults! Decent sized clean rooms and excellent location. No toiletries at all but plenty of big clean towels. No probs at all.
A very good location
The location of the hotel is very good. Near to the train station and to all the main tourist attractions. The staff was very nice to us, since we arrived earlier to the check in hour (3PM) and they've let us leave all our baggage, so that we could go to the city center to pass some time. The rooms was basic and clean. A very good relation quality/price/location.
Basic and Central
Stayed 1 night, very Central..easy walk to Lime Street Station and shops and restaurants. There is no bar or restaurant here but they do have vending machines and sell limited food and drinks at reception.Rooms are basic and clean. Would stay again.
Perfect Location
This is the ultimate no frills hotel. No Bar, No restaurant the smallest reception on earth but.......... it does the job. Rooms are large and clean. The rate is reasonable and the location is excellent for the city centre. The staff are next to useless but to be honest beyond checking you in and out you won't really require them. I'd reccommend this for a gang of lads going to the football even though we all brought our significant others too. It doesn't try to be anything its not so for that reason its a thumbs up.
Shabby and Falling Apart
Five years ago this was a great place to stay in Liverpool. It was centrally located, reasonably priced, and newly decorated. Unfortunately too many weekend parties and football crowds have taken their toll. The cheap furniture is now falling apart. The grouting in the bathroom has turned black. There is a smell of vomit and bleach in the corridors. ... and the prices have gone up! You can easily pay 75 pounds at the weekend which is a complete rip off. Sometimes you get a mid-week deal for 30 pounds which is about what it's worth so I still stay there. But the Travel Lodge company should be ashamed. They have a reputation for clean simple well-priced rooms around the UK - however Liverpool is helping change that image.
Location Location Location
The best thing about this hotel is it's location. Two doors down there is a small cafe (Me Mams Kitchen) which specialises in cooked breakfasts. The ladies behind the counter sing along with the radio. Wonderful. Around the corner there is a fantastic Chinese restaurant, called The Mandarin. First class food. Two streets away are pubs, restaurants and St John's shopping centre. Diagonally across the road from the hotel is the Walker Gallery, well worth a look. Take a left from the hotel and a 5 - 10 minute walk down the road and you come to the Liver Building. The rooms are basic just about what you would expect. This is a well used travelodge. The sealant around the bath in our room was black and a bit of bleach wouldn't have gone amiss. However, the beds are clean and comfortable and quiet at night. There is gym and beautician next door. The staff were friendly and helpful and kept my bag for me before I could check in and after I checked out (£3). I would use this hotel again.
bargain
excellent value for money
