Good but a reps hotel
from katrb
I've stayed here a couple of times but stayed on 29th August and did feel a little uneasy - probably just me - I'm a business woman travelling on my own so I don't always find hotels very welcoming - but the hotel seemed full of groups of men hanging around corridors - probably some conference that was going on but made me feel uneasy. Room was good and room service was lovely - real chips! and they don't charge room service for breakfast. Hotel staff very helpful and hotel so handy for many places.
The Grand National
from A TripAdvisor Member
The Grand National ! A must do must see event for all Horse Racing Fans.. Except for one thing The Liverpool Hotels .... Urrggghhhh.. Well you try and book a hotel for an two day trip during Grand National week! All the best places ~ and they are few & far between in Liverpool! ~ are booked many many months in advance.. and the lower end of the scale dont bear thinking about. So this year we stayed at The Holiday in at Haydock, about 20 odd miles from Aintree. I have waffled on a bit because there is not much to say about the hotel. It was exactly as it says on the advert. There were no surprises ; Reasonably clean Reasonably efficient Reasonably priced Reasonable breakfast Reasonably sized rooms Reasonably polite staff Reasonably located Reasonably reasonable Nothing outstanding in either direction. I would never stay here or recommend it for a leisure break if you wanted to enjoy the ambience of a nice hotel but as a useful stopover that does not get in the way of you enjoying the wonderful experience of a couple of days at the Aintree Grand National meeting it was very good. There is also a very good Italian restaurant in the pretty village of Newton le Willows about 2 miles down the road. Not my usual review but honest and truthful and I hope helpful.
It would be better if they trained their staff

Quite a nice hotel, although downstairs reeks of cigarette smoke in the evening. Stayed here for 2 nights, both completely different experiences. First night the reception staff were friendly but not very helpful. The restaurant waitress was brilliant. Room OK except there were no drinking glasses. Next morning breakfast was almost run out at 8am, and what was left was poor quality. That evening it seems as though the body snatchers had been in and replaced the whole staff. Virtually none of them seemed to know what they were doing - reception, restaurant or bar. Still no drinking glasses in the bedroom. My bed leg fell off (there were only two screws left holding it in place and one of them fell out as I was getting into bed. I wouldn't have minded if it was an orgy or something but I was on my own! Breakfast next morning was worse than the day before. Checked out at Reception who had no record of how my invoice was being settled, even though it was on the original booking. They claimed to have had "e-mail problems".
Not Bad at all

I was pleasantly surprised as i was not too sure about it. The room was average but clean and tidy and with all the amenities i would expect. The breakfast was very nice, just make sure you get there early so you can have the best selection.

This is an avarage motel style hotel. Nothing wrong with it basically, but a tired, staff, intereriour and exteriour. They did an upgrade on the property not too long ago, but this was done so quick and cheap that the wear and tear are allready showing. The restaurant was all upgraded, except for the tables, which are still cafetaria style (very shabby!) And the hallways look like an 80's hotel. The staff are so so, we requested a roomchange as we could hear the airconditioning unit ontop of one of the buildings very clearly in our room. Someone came up and checked the noise, and agreed to change the room. Now I might not be in the hotel business but if the building is L shaped, and we get a room in the other wing NEXT to our original room but a different floor, we would might hear the same noise. Which we did, but tired and a little irratated by now we left it by that. Went down for some food, one steak was very good indeed, the other tough as leather, both asked to be cooked medium. Check out provided us with another problem, systems went down in the night (didn't get my requested newspaper due to the outage and roomchange) and was quoted a totally different roomrate and extra charge for breakfast, which was included. I spotted a card saying you get 20% discount on food if you are a priority club member, and asked if we we're eligable. First awnser was, you are not a member. I sayed I was, then the reply was that this was a discount only quoted on certain days. Which by this time I did not believe at all! The roomrate was solved quite quickly as I had presigned a written confirmation for the roomrate at check-in, but all in all this was the final problem that made me not want to return. Pool area was quite big for a hotel pool, though the mens changing area was dirty and again showing wear and tear. The whirlpool was cold, and it all looked a bit grubby. Breakfast was quite good, though a little on the cold side. We payed 39 pounds incl tax incl breakfast wich is a really good deal, but the walk up rate was 155 ex breakfast, which would have been way to high for the experience we had. A platinum member checked in later and was refused an upgrade, 'because we don't do that at this location' which was more or less the story of our stay. Shame and a big stain on the HI chain, my stay the day before at Leeds-Brighouse Holiday Inn was 200% more enjoyable and at more or less the same rate!
Good Value

Booked a summer offer which comprised of a double room with breakfast for my wife and I at a cost of £45 per night for the two of us. We had a good sized corner room with two windows and air conditioning. The hotel is situated very close to the race course and the M6 and suited our requirements well. Usual Holiday Inn breakfast which means you don't need to eat for the rest of the day! Plenty of parking and the front of the hotel looks out over fields. There is a swimming pool and fitness area, although we did not use them. Would be happy to stay here again
Okay hotel
from MarriottCoventry
We booked this hotel as a last minute deal for £50 excluding breakfast. The reception staff were friendly and helpful on arrival and the rooms were clean with everything you would expect from a Holiday Inn with the exception of air conditioning which I think is in the process of being installed. There were plenty of windows in our room and a fan so it was not a problem. When we arrived we ordered some drinks from the bar which probably took around 15 minutes and there was no acknowledgement of our presence despite being the only people there ! It was possibly the slowest service I have ever experienced from the most uncooperative/arrogant bar staff. We also ordered food from the bar despite the slow service and it was very good. We used the pool which was lovely and again the staff were very helpful. We paid extra for breakfast although did get a small discount from £12.95 to £8.50, the cooked breakfast was luke warm and after complaining the food was replaced and somewhat hotter. The selection was not that great compared with other hotels I have stayed in and I do not think that it was worth £8.50. For the money I paid I would stay here again (without breakfast) however I would be reluctant to stay again if the prices increased, I do not feel it would not be worth the extra money.

Nice hotel, good location for Manchester or Liverpool but I found a lot of the staff hard to deal with, I did not feel wanted, I was more 'in the way'. I found it a shame for it is a typical Holiday Inn with all its bells and whistles but it was cold not comfortable.
Nice Hotel - shame about breakfast
from welshtaz
Stayed at the Holiday Inn, Haydock last Sunday. The room was clean and I think newly refurbished. We had room service for our evening meal which was quite up to standard, but could not say the same for the breakfast. We waited a long time before a member of staff showed us to a table, then four turned up all at once. I have to say that they were all very friendly, but were more concerned talking to each other to notice that what was on offer was not up to the usual high standard of Holiday Inns (even had to ask them for plates). We booked this overnight break with the Winter Sale of £52.00 including breakfast, so when we checked out you can imagine when checking the bill that the breakfast at £12.95 per person was added. We produced a print-out (which I would recommend) and pointing out that breakfast was included, the receptionist was only to pleased to print out another bill. Would certainly return to this hotel, but just be careful to check that if breakfast is included in the offer, to make sure that you do not end up paying twice!
Good hotel
from Nigelhu
I had an enjoyable stay at this hotel. The hotel and facilities were clean and presentable, the staff courteous and friendly. The rooms were a little hot over night, but nothing an open window couldn’t resolve. The staff acknowledged this is as a problem, and noted that air conditioning will be shortly introduced. The breakfast was reasonably good and food in general was no problem. As part of a large party, the restaurant staff were a little disorganised trying to sort out the bill. Only human I guess! I would be very happy to stay here again.

Holiday Inn Haydock great location for the races although myself I haven’t used it for that I use it as a stop of during business, as I think do most people. This is a friendly and comfortable hotel whilst catering in the main for the business traveller it also has a... more
