Dec 2006, Mr SP Batchelor

Awful "big" hotel. Parking very limited. Rooms tatty, dirty and no heating working. Decor in serious need of updating.
Poor facilities for price we paid. Better off saving your money and booking a good B&B/Guest house. Or perhaps a proper "big" hotel rather than this run down shambles.

What can I say DISGUSTING, we had...

Sep 2006, Other S Seddon

What can I say DISGUSTING, we had booked a family room for one night bed and breakfast through laterooms.com, it cost us £110 (so it wasn’t cheap).
When we arrived we went up to our room, on the ledge out side of our door was a tray with the left overs of someone’s dinner on it and a coat hanger, not a very good first impression.
When we went into the room it smelt damp and fusty, and it went down hill from there. The wall paper was hanging off and there were big damp stains all over the wallpaper. Two of the beds had been made, but the third had no valance sheet on it so you could see the base of the bed which was not a pretty site, it was stained brown. The carpet was dirty and the tea making facilities were all tea stained. The bathroom was even worse the end bath panel was smashed and all hanging off, exposing sharp edges which was not very safe with a 4 year old. The lino in the bathroom was dirty and there were long hairs on the floor and in the bath, also behind the toilet there was a layer of dust and dirt.
I wasn’t prepared to let my children stay in this room so I went down to reception to complain, I spoke to a young girl who was on reception and explained the situation, she went into the back and spoke to the reception manager. She came back and told me to go back up to the room and they would send someone up to have a look, she also said "they were supposed to have mended that bath panel". I went back up to the room and the bar lad was sent up to mend the bath panel, we explained that we wanted to be moved so he sent the reception manager up. The reception manager was very polite and professional, she tried to get us a room at their sister hotel the Norbreck Castle but it was fully booked, she gave us the option of and upgraded room with a sea view, this was slightly better, but still not of the standard you would expect of a 3 star hotel.
On return home I complained to laterooms.com but I am currently awaiting a reply.

When my partner suggested Blackpool...
7 / 10
Jul 2006, Mr G Blackburn

When my partner suggested Blackpool for a holiday I had my reservations.
I booked a hotel described as within walking distance of the promenade. It was, in fact, right at the end of the promenade and 20-25 to walk to the central pier. However, the hotel was clean, we ate at the self-service breakfast which apart from a busy morning filled us up for the start of the day and slept in a comfortable double bed. The only downside were actually that we had no sea view and there was only a shower.
Blackpool had a lot of attractions for us both (no kids). The Sealife Centre, Tussauds and the Zoo all deserve commendation. The walk from hotel to south pier and back taking in each pier on the way took around 7-8 miles but was well worth it. The only downside was a young man on a bike whole stole a couple's umbrella after they dropped it.
Eating out on an evening was enjoyable. The Litten Tree, and the Gyn Pub did very nice meals and the atmosphere was made all the more enjoyable by the World Cup final being played on large TV screens.
All-in-all a nice few days but the wind is rather chilly!

I booked via the Britannia site to...

Jul 2006, Mrs K Readman

I booked via the Britannia site to stay at the Savoy Blackpool, arriving on the 21st July staying for 2 nights. On arrival at the hotel the room was very dirty to say the least. Wall paper hanging from the walls, carpet thread bare, a picture (painted on hardboard) neither in nor out of the frame, bathroom- someone in the next room emptied their sink and the dirty water came up in the sink. I will not go on.
I immediately returned to reception to ask for another room, the reception manager was very professional, telling me that the hotel had recently been taken over by Britannia and were in the process of renovating it. She offered me a replacement room, this was of a similar condition. Again she was professional and when I requested a refund she gave me one. So staff there are very polite and well mannered.
However I am annoyed that are taking bookings. We were very disappointed and returned home, a very long travel. The hotel is not fit for human habitation. It should be looked at by hotel inspectors. I suggest they look at the mattresses, wall paper carpet and bathroom fittings. I booked with Britannia as I have stayed at the Grand in Scarborough and I thought it would be of the same standard.
