dont go there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On arrival at the hotel we were advised by the receptionist that the heating for the hotel is on a timer and wasn't due on for a few hours so the room may be a little cold. When we got to our room it was quite a small room and extremely cold with a view from our window of the back yard. We were only staying for the one night luckily as the radiator in our room never worked at all! The TV never worked, the curtains didn't shut properly, the coffee maker was put on a dressing table with no plug socket anywhere near it, the bathroom door was very difficult to open and close and the water from the sink and shower was hardly warm at all. We didn't attempt to try the breakfast there so can't comment on that as we didn't want to stay any longer!!
disappointed
Initial thoughts were that the previous reviews were wrong but had no hot water and cabaret nights were empty probably due to the most expensive drinks in Blackpool. If they reduced their drink price to a reasonable level they would get more guests at their entertainment nights. Not the only guests to have problems with hot water. Staff were extremely good and apologetic but they are let down by poor owners/management. Good breakfasts and basic dinners. Got sitting with friends so ignore previous comments. Wouldn't go back though.
great break
just visited this hotel for 2nd time.had an excellent break.lovely sea view room, nice and clean AND warm.staff were excellent food was very good.really good value for money.entertainment was ok.would recommend to anyone who wants a good cheap weekend away in blackpool.
Other reviews gave me sleepless nights for nothing - fantastic break!!
After booking the hotel I read the reviews, which caused me sleepless nights. 8 of us stayed at the hotel 2 senior citizens, 4 adults, 1 teenager and 1 infant. Yes the rooms could do with a bit of a spruce up but they were clean, what do people expect for a 2 star and for their money, if they want brand new then book into a brand new hotel costing lots more pennies for the extra stars. The meals were fine, infact really enjoyable with a choice of 3 main courses, I read 1 review that stated the food was bland, we all commented on how tasty it was and how the portions were just enough with having 3 courses. The entertainment didn't turn up on Friday night but there was a disco which kept the kids happy. Yes some people did complain about this but I believe if you want proper entertainment book a show. Would we go back, simply yes.
don't do it
my wife and i booked a weekend break at this hotel and we majorly wish we hadn't we got there and someone had ,had a poo in the loo and left it there the heating was on full blast so you can imagine the smell. we went to complain and were told we only have 1 other room left which was smaller than the room we were in and freezing cold. so we stayed put after opening all the windows fully and spraying loads the smell was still there but not as much.the food was descusting the staff rude. the sheets had stains on them and we both came back with flea bites. all the time we were there no-one came into the room to clean it or change the sheets, towels ect. all in all totally descusting. the hotel from hell is an understatemrnt.....
See for yourself - For a budget hotel - Excellent
I read with dread the previous reports on this Hotel as I was due to stay there within a few days.I have recently returned from a long weekend stay and must say I found my stay to be completely trouble free, and found the staff very amiciable and courteous. AS previously stated in a reply to comments made, if you expect a 5* Modern Hotel for this price then you will be disappointed, but I found it quiet, clean in all aspects and the food was excellent and extremely good value for money. All in all I would not hesitate to return.
Bad reveiws are wrong
I do not agree with the other comments posted with regards to the President. The manager, Alan, is a very hard working chap, friendly and goes out of his way to sort out anything for his visitors. He is very comitted to his job and performs it to an excellent standard. He is always ready to step in and solve any issues himself. The hotel could do a bit to update its image and decorations but the staff do an excellent job and make you feel very welcome. I would reccommend this place and ignore the comments of the people who probably want to complain to try and get money off etc. President - keep up the good work!
Absolute dump
Myself and my partner were unfortunate enough to book this hotel for our 3 day stay in blackpool. We booked a double seaview room, in this tiny bedroom there was a double bed, wardrobe, 2 locker units and a table with television, the wardrobe had handle missing on one door, we were unable to open the wardrobe properly as one of the locker units was jammed up against it, the batroom had a hideous green suite and tiles coming off the wall, this bedroom has certainly not been refurbished in a number of years. On the 2nd day the water ran out and the girl on reception informed us this was a problem throughout the hotel, it came back on the next morning but was cold so after 3 hours of waiting to have a shower we had to be moved to antoher room, as this was being cleaned i had to use antother bedroom to shower, there was no shower curtain with the result the floor was soaking from the shower spray, when we eventually carried our bags into the room allocated there was warm water but the water pressure was non existant and the towel rails fell off the wall. We ate in the restaraunt only once, my dinner was served to me by a very rude waiter and was served in a bowl, my partner had half drank his glass of orange juice and as he put it down the waiter came along and removed it without checking if he had in fact finished with it. The waiter told a family of 6 they could not be seated together and they had to complain at reception for this to happen. During our 3 day stay we witnessed 3 other complaints, one family had booked rooms and were told they hadn't, they argued and had the owner of the hotel argue with them in reception, another couple were told they had no rooms booked either and another customer complained to the manager in the coffee shop in regard to their room. Overall i think this hotel needs to have some money spent bringing it up to the standard they claim to have on their website, and until then i would advise people to book elsewhere when they visit blackpool.
Hair and Blood on Sheets!
A group of eleven lady's from my local Church were booked into The Golden Thistle Hotel originally which is The New President's Sister Hotel. While there two of the girls were awoken by some men trying to knock down their door and threatening to rape them. They called us for help and we got the police who insisted we all get moved to the New President Hotel. After 5 hours of arguing with the staff to carry out this request by the police they finally got us to the new hotel. Pat the manager went to find rooms for us and we finally got to bed at 7.00am in the morning. We could not believe the state of the room. Four of us stayed in one room, five in another and two in the last one. Our room had no view at all just a brick wall, it smelled of fish, the kettle did not work or the TV the bunk beds were very rickerty and the head bar was missing. We were so tired we just wanted to lay down for a bit so not to ruin our last day at Blackpool. When we pulled back the sheets there was blood and hair in the bed - YUCK. We asked five times for the sheets to be changed and they kept saying yes someone is coming up to do it. We eventually went out to the Pleasure Beach and when we got back MR ALAN FRENCH was awaiting us. He firstly refused to give us the keys to the rooms with our cases in. He wanted us to pay extra to stay in the dump! We had already been requested to pay in full at the sister hotel The Golden Thistle. We explained the reasons we had been moved from the last hotel and said we didn't think is was fair of him to expect us to pay more. He told us he was calling the police as we were abusing him and that he had deliberately put us in dirty rooms until we paid the extra money. We felt bullied and completely filthy from being in the room but had to pay up to get our cases. We asked for our money back since we had not slept in any rooms in his hotels in the 36 hours we had been in Blackpool with the intention to go elsewhere. He just kept saying he would call the police. The worse experience of my life. I would never wish to repeat it again.
Management response from wendyblackpool 23 Nov 2005

I am disgusted at the comments of these travellers and can assure all readers that the story portrayed is very far from the truth! This Hen party was booked into The Golden Thistle which is a dedicated Stag and Hen unit with late Bars etc. When these ladies suggested that there were threats of rape, obviously we called the police immeadiately but it was found that the story was complete fabrication and concluded that this was no more than an a drunken attempt to cause trouble for the other parties in the Hotel. As a result of this unreasonable behaviour the party was indeed moved to the President Hotel where the ladies were offered superior accommodation in order to continue their holiday. CCTV footage clearly shows the abusive and threatening language used by these drunken women on arrival at the President Hotel resulting in my threatening to ask them to leave, since I did not want to cause any difficulty with the other guests ofm the Hotel. This type of licentious review could lead to prosecution for defamation of character and the business and I would suggest that these women go binge drinking elsewhere other than Blackpool which is essentially a family resort!

do not stay here
my husband booked 6 rooms at this hotel for himself and friends upon arrival they were told they were to stay at sister hotel. sister hotel did not have facilities they had paid for they complained to the manager who was extremly rude they ended up staying in another hotel internet booking sites gave a full refund and removed this hotel from there website due to numerous complaints and rudeness of manager apparently this is what hotel does regularly so beware when you think you are staying in president you are probably booked into dump they call sister hotel
Management response from Group-Organiser 23 Nov 2005

We do not accept same sex parties at The New President Hotel since qwe are essentially a 'Family' orientated Hotel. As we have a dedicated Stag and Hen unit (The Golden Thistle) all same sex parties are booked into this Hotel which is both lively and noisy being mainly populated by parties who often drink excessive amounts of alcohol etc. Occaisionally we have people who book accommodation under false pretences when it is actually a Stag party and we have no idea of therem purpose until they arrive. In these cases they are refused entry to the President and directed to the Golden Thistle as was the case with thios party who were drunk on arrival!
