This hotel was by far the best hotel I have stayed in. It is definitely worth every penny. I can not comment on the food or the bar as I did not eat or drink there during my stay but everything else was by far deluxe. The room's were superb! The bathroom was big, great... more

Went with my wife and 2 year old son for a weekend and thought it was miles better than staying in any B&B.
The room was spacious and also childproof, which was a big factor for us. Food was great and staff there were really helpful and polite.
Well recommended.

Booked an overnight stay, deluxe room with breakfast at the Big Blue Hotel through last minute.com. We arrived at 12 noon and were told that we could not check in until after 3.00 p.m. We said no problem, parked our car in the car park, and went to the pleasure beach where... more

BEST HOTEL AROUND
I have been fortunate enough to stay at this hotel 3 times since it opened. On my first visit I stayed in a Standard room which was located at the rear of the hotel overlooking the 'Big One'. In any other hotel a Big Blue Standard room would be more like a Superior - the room had a lovely large and very comfortable bed and the room & bathroom was decorated to a very high standard....On my second stay I upgraded and stayed in a Superior (executive) room. Again this hotel outdid my expectations and had a seperate seating area with a beautiful feature fireplace which was lovely to snuggle up against on a cold night. This room was more contemporary in decoration than the standard room had been and this room was situated at the front of the hotel with a sea view. I also got bathrobes and a fruit basket left for me which I thought was a really nice touch! Upon my last stay at the Big Blue I booked into a family room and took my son. He thought it was fantastic and had his own 'area' to sleep with Child sized bunk beds which gave him and us privacy...The children's room/area had it's own tv & games console as well as an on the wall snakes & ladders for younger children....The bathrooms in all rooms were of a very high standard.... The food - The breakfast was buffet style and you had a choice of Eggs, bacon, sausages, tomatoes, beans, cereals, pastries, toast, fruit juices, tea & coffee's and you could literally help yourself to as much as you liked! On my first visit I also ate in the hotel's own restaurant and all I can say is that I was not a bit dissapointed - the food choice was excellent and the standard of the dishes served was first class, and not pricey at all.... There is also a comfy seating/bar area where you can sit and relax with friends before a night out or after a long day walking round the Pleasure Beach (the hot chocolate with Marshmallow drink is a must after a long day out or before bedtime)....And if your too tired to move after a day in busy Blackpool you can also rent DVD's to watch in your room. What more can I say - the staff are helpful, friendly & very professional and I would go back at the drop of a hat. I booked with Laterooms.com and got a discounted room price which made each stay even more worth the money....If your visiting Blackpool make sure you check this place out as it leaves the rest of hotels way behind and you'd be mad not to stay! Definately one of the best and easily compares with at least 2 other 5* hotels I've stayed in within Manchester City Centre (couldn't compare it too any hotels in Blackpool as no other comes close!)...
FANTASTIC!!
We stayed for 2 nights in November- What a fantastic hotel. Rooms were brilliant especially the bunk bed's and tv's for the little one. Breakfast was great , set's you up for an exciting day in Blackpool. Would definetly stay again and would recommend to families. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the bar staff made great cocktails - hence us trying to stay for a 3rd night!!!
big blue makes you happy !!!
we stayed for one night on 20th nov, it was fab ! the rooms are excellent standard and value for money, the staff were very helpful and friendly, the only down side is, the bar and restaurant are too small and were packed !! breakfast is also a bit hectic, but you are warned the busy times !! saying that , the breakfast is not to be missed as its delicious , all in all a fab time and not like being in blackpool !! cant wait to go again !!
At Last! Somewhere decent to stay.
The Big Blue Hotel is an absolute breath of fresh air. After many stays in what can only be described as 'squalid' and 'truly awful' hotels (If you can call them that) in Blackpool - we are so glad that we stayed here. We stayed the weekend of Halloween for two nights. We tried to check in 3 hours early but not surprisingly our room wasn't ready. However just an hour later the room was ours, no queue at reception - fantastic! We have two very young children and they loved the layout of the room. The 'alcove' with the bunkbeds and tv's is brilliant. The room was a generous size, the bathroom was modern, spacious and overall the hotel and room were exceptionally clean. The buffet breakfast was the best I have ever had in a hotel. What a gem! We didn't eat at the hotel other than breakfast so I can't comment on other meals or the bar. Even though the hotel is positioned right next to the pleasure beach - we were not affected by noise in any way. I have just two small criticisms: the first is one of the male receptionists is surly and arrogant. However I only spoke to him twice for a few seconds - it didn't affect our weekend. The second is that our room had no socket next to a mirror which meant that I couldn't use my hair straightners and see what I was doing - a bit girly I know - but i'm surely not the only woman who straightens her hair! So next time i'll take a hand mirror.....and there will definately be a next time. :)
BIG UP TO THE BIG UN!!!
We arrived on Monday afternoon (25th October) for a one night stay. The reception was PACKED full of guests awaiting check-in. Nonetheless, the receptionist was courteous and very friendly and took time out to explain a few things even though the Q was ever increasing. Our rooms (one Double and one twin) ALTHOUGH THEY COULDN"T GET US ON THE SAME LEVEL NEVER MIND ADJOINING ROOMS!!! were very roomy and modern. The sight of the PEPSI BIG MAX is an added bonus. P.S(YOU MUST GO ON THIS RIDE EVEN IF YOU ARE SCARED...I FORCED MY WIFE TO GO ON IT...SHE STILL ISN'T SPEAKING TO ME!!!!). The noise is NOT a problem as the rides shut down at about 10ish! The bed was huge and the room very comfortable with a very high standard of bathroom. Thinking that this was a modern big hotel,i thought breakfast would be cereal and croissants...WRONG!!!...it was lovely cooked breakfast buffet style with a chef ever present to cook eggs etc...as they ran out. Altogether a very high standard hotel with a great location and very good value for money...and don't forget to go on THE BIG UN!!!!
Top Class Modern Hotel
Stayed at the Big Blue Hotel - 8th and 9th Oct 2004, this hotel was fantastic for couples as well as families. The whole hotel was very modern and the customer care was great at reception and in the restuarant / bar. We didn't manage to try the restuarant for lunch or tea but the breakfast was lovely. The only down fall was that you had to wait abit for a table if you arrived after 8.30am. We will certainly be returning to see the illuminations at this hotel.
Not Great!
Not Great i'm afraid! We checked in on a Monday afternoon to an empty reception desk. No appologies from the male receptionist when he finally appeared. The Room was adequate but certainly nothing special, it was clean & tidy. The hotel was in a great location with the pleasure beach behind it and a tram stop opposite. After a rather a hectic morning of shopping we got back to the hotel, (again no welcome when we arrived back) I fancied a diet coke so i telephoned down to reception who replied"we dont do room service!!!" i couldnt believe it a hotel,no room service?? "you can come and pick one up if you like"was what the receptionist said. Food was ok but i'd never go back!!
Fabulous
We stayed at the Big Blue on 27th & 28th Sept on a special. The value for money was excellent. We bought one night and got another free! We took our 8 year old little boy Oliver for his birthday, and we all loved it. We stayed at the back of the hotel on the ground floor and in the morning at 8.oclock when they were testing the rides the train driver waved at Oliver and he was thrilled. The food was outstanding, the breakfast was excellent as it was buffet style. The kids rooms are fantastic with t.v's on each bunk and all decked out to kids liking. DVD in the room was an extra treat as was the games consoles. The staff are the friendliest most helpful I have ever met in a hotel. Even the housekeepers are friendly and speak to you. This hotel is great. Early evening is best before you go out, watching the BIG ONE go past your window and the Big Dipper. On departure day we were told we could leave our car on the car park until we were ready to go home, so we had another day in Blackpool knowing our car would be safe. We really appreciated that. Highly recommended, especially for families.
Wow, simply WOW!
WOW! And this hotel is in Blackpool right next to its biggest and best attraction! If you've only 2 kids (who could cope with shorter kids' beds) then you'll only need one room - their beds are separate from yours and each has its own TV. Plenty of room in main bedroom area for full length "Z" bed. Great breakfast. See the other reviews here and don't book anywhere else!
EXCELLENT IN EVERY RESPECT
The best thing here was their insistence on treating my 9-year old son exactly as they treated me.... respectful, amused, charming. The rooms are a delight and the DVD players and games consoles an added bonus. And you do feel as if your kids are in a different room although they are actually 10 yards away by the door. Ordering newspapers was a bit hit and miss...but serve me right!
