Great little hotel
My husband and I travel often from Glasgow to London and, where time allows, we like to stop overnight to break the journey. We have long since tired of travel lodges and inns and are always on the look out for a decent hotel, with a close proximity to the M6. We struck gold in finding the Stanneylands through Laterooms.com. We booked for one night a couple of days before Christmas and paid £140 for a double room including breakfast and dinner. We called the hotel direct to ask if we could upgrade to an executive room and this was... more
Dissapointed with the food
I booked into Stanneylands out of a preference to avoid the big hotel airports as I enjoy a little individuality, but importantly because the hotel prides itself on its food. The hotel was absolutely fine and the service was very pleasant being both welcoming and relaxed. As I checked in, a guest was asking directions to a local well known indian restaurant. At that point I asked the receptionist about the style of menu and food. he extolled its virtues to a considerable degree. I reviewed the menu prior to dinner, which was... more
Fantastic Hotel
I wouldn't normally write a review but having seen the poor reports on earlier ratings I wanted to ensure that any future guests were not put off by previous comments. On first walking into the hotel there was a very warm welcoming feel about the place. We were initially greeted by a very friendly face on reception and all staff throughout our visit were extremely pleasant and helpful. The room was very clean and decorated lovely. Dinner in the restaurant was wonderful as was the service. I would have no hesitation in staying there... more
fabulous restaurant
I stayed at this hotel whilst on a business trip to the UK. The rooms are a reasonable size and well appointed (especially appreciated the ironing board/trouser press), bathrooms adequate with a nice selection of complimentary toiletries and the hotel is set in very pretty and peaceful grounds. Found the pub to be a bit dull but the restaurant is wonderful! Make friends with the Maître d'hôtel, he was somewhat intimidating at first but soon had us laughing at his witty comments. His advice regarding which course and which wine to select... more
Great dinner
We stayed at Stanneylands on a cold wet March day, there were coal fires burning in the lounge and bar, and our room was warm and pleasantly decorated. We booked dinner and were very pleased with both the food and the service. The only gripe was the grumpiness of the receptionist when we checked out (I don't think a 7am checkout is unrasonable in a hotel so close to the airport) but I had to phone for someone to come to the desk and when she arrived, if looks could kill I'd be 6ft under! Overall, a very pleasant hotel, and we... more
Delightful hotel
I was somewhat hesitant about booking because of some earlier negative reviews, but trusted the most recent, as there had been mention of renovation work. The hotel is exceptionally friendly, welcoming, and has the sort of unique atmosphere missing from the big chains. The room was reasonably spacious with a nice bathroom. Breakfast was excellent, with very attentive service. Nice touches such as being able to order a morning paper, that one usually associates with more expensive USA hotels. Being originally from the North of England, it was... more
Had fab wedding at Stanneylands
Having booked our wedding here a v. long time ago, I had several reservations due to the renovation work etc. But in the run up to the wedding they were above and beyond efficient. The decor is lovely, our wedding coordinator Rachel was extremely efficient, Eamon the manager catered to our every whim, the food was gorgeous and all the rooms were newly decorated and very smart. All our guests enjoyed themselves and those that stayed the night were impressed with their rooms. Our credit card was used to secure room booking, but... more
terrible customer service
We booked a room at this hotel in April last year for my sisters wedding next month. A mixup seems to have occurred and they have overbooked. Fair enough you might say. What happened next was unbelievable. The reception staff were rude, unhelpful and completely lacking in customer care skills. My other sister had the same experience. The manager failed to respond to our written complaint in person. As a consequence we have booked adifferent hotel. This is probably the first review of a hotel where the people haven't even stayed there(!), but... more
Very poor !!
What can I say? There seems to be an overiding acceptance of poor standards in many cheshire hotels these days!! Having been for Sunday lunch and attended a number of weddings in the last year I feel that I am able to offer an opinion. Is it acceptable for Hotels that claim to offer 4 star service to get away with being staffed by poorly trained young staff?? Waiters, barpersons and reception staff seem to have had very little training as they were unable to answer even the simplest questions !! The standard of service... more
LateRooms
Hotel Booking made through LateRooms. Hotel is set in a great location, in well tended grounds, the hotel has much promise. Unfortunately I was given a 'to be renovated' room which was far from the 4 star reputation the hotel promotes. Although the room was clean, Curtains were not propertly hanging from the windows, one window would not close properly and the bathroom was in desparate need of renovation. The room was generally worn. Although the staff were pleasant there was little opportunity or interest in arranging a room change due to... more
