Fantastic!
We flew Easyjet from Newcastle-cheap and cheerful! We flew into Schoenefeld airport and attempted to use the train to get to the hotel, but it was too complicated for us! So we got a taxi. The taxi driver was unsure where the hotel was as we had the hotel as the Superior Hotel Berlin, but when he was in the area he turned the meter off, which was nice. He then went into the hotel to ask if that was where we were staying.
The taxi cost E30, bargain as it is about 20 minutes away from the airport. The train is E2.10, get the S9 to the Zoo railway station and then either the number 100 bus to the hotel or a taxi to the door which wont be much. The ticket machines are really easy to use and have the facility for English language.
We didn't think the hotel would be as nice as it was as we'd only paid £160 each for the whole weekend, so thought we would be in a rubbish hotel! Anyway. The hotel was fabulous. Recently re furbished and well smart. The interior is modern, clean and bright. The reception staff all spoke English and were very helpful. Our room was lovely, plasma TV, roses, bottle of mineral water and fruit on arrival, shower gel in the bathroom. There's also a hair dryer in the bathroom, so you don’t have to take one. The only criticism was that we booked a double room, but it was 2 single beds pushed together with 2 separate single quilts. We could have been moved I suppose but we hardly spend any time in the hotel so didn't bother. So if you want a double bed, email them before hand.
The hotel is very central and is within easy distance to the main areas. The reception desk instructed us where to walk and gave us a map. We walked to the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedachtnis-Kirche, which is the most beautiful church I’ve ever been in. Mooched about and then got on an open top bus. There are a few to choose from so just have a browse. If you're not staying in Berlin long they're a good idea as you get to see everything. The food and drink stalls that are dotted around there are very handy and delicious. The Germans love their Bratwursts so if your vegetarian it will be difficult. If you buy a beer you are charged at the time for the glass, but when you're finished take it back and you get your money back.
We went to the beer festival which was marvelous! You have to go once in your life! 1 mile long of beer stalls, food stalls, seats, entertainment and of course toilets! It is on the 1st weekend in August and is in the East of Berlin, just get the metro train, its easy! There's a stop right beside the hotel.
There are a few bars dotted in the area around the hotel, and there are 2 bars in the hotel, so no shortage there!
I would definitely go back to this hotel.
