Decent enough hotel-will be better when refurbished
from Darlo672
Stopped here for a one night stay in June as part of a package with 15 days parking (cost approx £85 which was excellent value-room only). The hotel has large grounds with ample parking spaces. I phoned the hotel in advance and ordered a bottle of champagne for a suprise to my wife as this was effectively the start of our honeymoon. Check in was fine, with a very friendly girl on reception. However when I got to my room (after eventualy finding it-the hotel is like a maze) the room stank of stale cigarettes. Also they forgot to put the champagne in the room, which was a blessing I guess. Hardly the ideal setting to share some champagne. The room was also dingy. When I went to reception to complain I was told the hotel was full and I couldn't change rooms. There was no way I was sleeping in an ash tray so they found me a twin room eventually. The twin room (was able to push beds together) was a much brighter room so if you're a non smoker, when booking it's best to make sure you get a non smoking room. The health club was excellent. Large swimming pool, nice jacuzzi, sauna and swimming pool.Use of the facilities are free for anyone stopping at the hotel and it was a great way to wind down. The evening meal in the restaurant was very good. Drinks in the bar were expensive (approx £3.30 for a pint of lager/beer) and we didn't bother with breakfast as £15 seemed excessive as it would be far cheaper in the airport. (I'm sounding like a tight arse here, which could be true). There's a lot of refurbishment work going on and no doubt when this is done the hotel will go from being decent to very good. The transfer to and from the airport was efficient and hassle free. (Approx a 5 minute journey in the mini bus).
Wonderful pillows!

We stayed at the hotel one night whilst attending a wedding there. That day there were two wedding receptions being held there but there was plenty of space. The staff were friendly and let us check in before midday. The bedroom was a good size with a massive bed. The bedroom was a king room and the bed must have been super-king-size with the fluffiest pillows and bedding ever! The room, bedding and bathroom were clean and a delight to stay in. There was work going on in the hotel to upgrade the rooms so we assumed that ours had recently had the work done. Breakfast was good with lots of choice and long opening hours. that afternoon/evening. We would recommend the hotel.
Don't touch it!!!

I am still arguing with them about the bill 5 months on, we paid it, they don't think we did. You are also supposed to get transport to and from the airport (it's what we paid for) On arriving back from Tunisia with 4 childern, on News Year Eve, we called the hotel for the mini bus to pick us up to be told ' can you find you're own way back to the hotel as we're really busy!' This was the 1st and last time I'd ever stay at a Marriott hotel!
Excellent Hotel

Our wedding night was spent at the Marriot Manchester Airport before heading out to Hong Kong the next day. I booked a package which included car parking and airport transfers. Having read some of the negative comments I was a bit concerned about our stay but I shouldn’t have it was excellent! When we arrived we were still in our wedding outfits. As soon as we checked in we were told that we would be upgraded to an executive suite. We didn’t ask for this so were extremely pleased. The hotel is a bit of maze and it was made worse by some of the ongoing refurbishment work but the porter showed us the way. When we got to the room we weren’t disappointed. The room was very spacious, spotlessly clean and had a magnificent king sized bed. We were going to eat in the bar at the hotel but found this very expensive so instead headed just two minutes down the road Hales were there is a good selection of Indian, Chinese and Italian as well as take aways. We also got to sample the leisure facilities which are first class the pool is beautiful and was practically empty at 8.00, there is a fantastic sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi. The next morning we checked out and the minibus to take us to the airport was with us in five minutes. Again excellent friendly service. The only one negative remark I could make related to when I tried to leave the car park the previous night. I didn’t know I needed a code to get out and the lady who came to resolve the problem was a bit abrupt. I did remember to get a code the next time though! On our return we rang for the bus which was again with us very quickly. I was extremely impressed with the whole experience and would love to stay here again particularly when the refurbishment work is done, it should be even better.
Standards have dropped

Stayed here in March before an early flight out to New York. Have used this Hotel for a number of years & have always enjoyed our stay - Never again. Standards have dropped badly, both in cleaning & food & general service. Had a very poor meal in the restaurant with a wine not even chilled!! Rooms can be hit & miss, luckily ours was okay but the corridoors can be an obstacle course as glassess, plate & food etc not collected for sometimes over a day. Parking is a nightmare, especially if you have luggage to drag along. There cheaper & much better hotels in the surrounding area.
Should not be a 4* - Very poor standards - Hygiene an issue!!!

We had a weekend break in Manchester to spend some time together as a family and watch a Manchester United game. We stayed at the Marriott thinking this would be a high quality base near Old Trafford, but were hugely dissapointed with the standards of this Hotel. Our 'Superior Deluxe Room' had crusty vommit stains on the bed valance. We could not be moved to another room because they were full - Great!!! Our valance could not be replaced because they had no spares and no further cleaning of the room was offered. The three dirty glasses outside our room stayed there for the duration of our stay - This speaks volumes of the cleaners standards!!! On the first night we were warned not to use the Spa changing rooms because they smelt of sewage due to a blockage. On the 2nd night the showers in the Spa changing rooms were cold - What Luxury!!! Watch out for the advertised Executive Lounge and Complementary Soft Drings / Water and Nibbles - you won't get them! The Executive Lounge is hardly ever open and you have a greater chance of a clean room that getting any complementary drinks in it - in other words - NO CHANCE!!! Expecting to receive some form of discount or gratuity for our dirty and smelly room we were overcharged with wine that we did not order and food that should have been included in our package. When we complained about our stay - they offered us a preferential rate for our next visit! Why!!! Do we really want to return to an unhygenic hotel!! If you are visiting Manchester, avoid this Hotel.
Not your typical marriott

Stayed one night prior to flight to States. Has only one lift which was out of order, a bit of a problem as I am disabled, reception re-allocated a groung floor room. this was quite small but adequate as was the bathroom, but the wardrobe was the smallest i have ever encountered, just about hang up 2 coats nothing else. Breakfast was cold and just about edible, price was in room cost otherwise wouldn't have bothered. Was okay for one night but for any longer stay elsewhere.
diisappointing

Stayed at the end of a lovely holiday, for a very special occasion and was very disappointed. After hiking a quarter of a mile from the only available parking spot, we then had to hike thru the maze of the hotel and carry all our luggage down 2 flights of stairs (no lift) to our room. The room was huge and on first impression very nice due to the furnishing and linens. On closer inspection, the room was dusty, carpets old and they actually had a big swath of duct tape as the threshold between the bathroom and hallway. The shower splashed, the fan inside the bathroom sucked the shower curtain inwards, so showering was a mess and due to the fact that the bathroom door was not to be open during a shower (sets off the fire alarm according to signs), the whole bathroom became a wet, slippery and dangerous mess. There was no back on the remote control and it barely worked. My pre-ordered strawberry and champagne basket never arrived. The lobby was beautiful, reception friendly and the airport shuttle comfortable, fast and convenient. I used reward miles for this stay and wonder if they have rooms of lesser quality set aside for that purpose - I'd hate to have spent $200 for this.
Amazing room - maze of a hotel!

I stayed here overnight on business. On arrival I was upgraded to the Mayfair Suite and what an amazing room this was! It had a four person sauna, large lounge, seperate bedroom and a huge round bath tub. Such a shame I was only there for the one night. The service at the hotel was excellent, my group had dinner in a private room and the food and service was faultless. The hotel also has a superb spa area with a gorgeous pool (I did have some leisure time!) The only downside to this hotel is it's layout. It's a bit of a maze to try and navigate around to find your room. I got lost numerous times but the helpful staff were always there to steer me in the opposite direction. My colleagues had the same problem. The room made the difference to my overall experience but I would recommend this hotel if you are travelling from Manchester airport.
A strange place!!

Checked in for one night and for 8 days parking before a New Years week in Florida. Low rise hotel and some parts newer than others. Front desk struggled with basic English and car park jammed. Front desk were telling customers to make sure cars were parked in long stay car park, yet couldn't clearly explain directions to get there. Very nice room, if about 3 miles from reception. Lift had no life in it - after ten minutes carried two suitcases upstairs. Pleasant leisure club. Hotel's restaurants are particuarly expensive and there is nothing around the hotel, as the nearby village of Trafford had no drinkerys/eaterys in walking distance. The shuttle service was excellent and very polite. Would possibly pay a few extra pounds and stay in the onsite Radisson SAS in future.
Stayed at this hotel on a few occasions when I have early flights etc and its somewhere that can be recommended as its brilliant. Also there is only a 5 minute drive to reach the airport so it’s a comfortable stay all round. The hotel is good, and is always kept... more
