Westlodge Hotel

Arrived as part of a coach tour for a 5 night stay in late March 07. Our first room (110) was ok but as we had 2 large cases etc. we found there was only a 3 drawer vanity unit and a rack with 12 hangers - so nowhere to store clothes etc. Moved rooms to 315 where there was a 3rd bed in the room so somewhere to put our stuff. Just checked out of the Westlodge in Bantry last weekend. We stayed in room 241, which had just been renovated. Lovely room, with modern decor. We arrived at 3pm and to our pleasure (and Surprise) we were able to park right at the door as there is a very large car park. We ate in the Main Restaurant on the night of arrival, great meal with excellent attentive service. This is undoubtedly the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. I arrived late at night in really bad weather and nearly missed it first of all as the outside entrance lights were not working. I walked in to an empty hotel with two friendy old men drinking in the lounge but no staff to be seen. I stood there freezing and wet after a 5 and a half hour drive and waited and waited. My Partner and I recently stayed at the Westlodge Hotel in Bantry on a two night package. It was very reasonably Priced at only €125 each for 2 nights with 1 dinner. When we checked in we were greeted by a very friendly receptionist, she gave us some information on what to do in Bantry which we found excellent, it mentioned a market in the town on Fridays which we visited and enjoyed immensely. I stayed here one night and have never been so glad to leave a hotel. If I had arrived earlier in the day than I did I would have turned around and looked for another hotel or B& B. The hotel public areas look OK, but the OK impression vanished as soon as I arrived in my room. The room was depressing and beat up looking and worst of all it wasn't very clean. There is no excuse for that. The carpet and bedspread had stains and the bedspread had some kind of debris. The shower curtain looked as if it had been there for years... more

Hotel with identity crisis. Ostensibly 'family-friendly' but no children (under 16 y.o.) allowed in pool after 6:30pm to accomodate 'members' who 'paid good money' ! Children not allowed to attend entertainment. Bar off limits to facilitate funeral crowd. No atmosphere in hotel. Huge , empty conference centre. Main foyer very run-down looking, lacking in warmth and attention. Pool attendants must double as store detectives (are patrons renowned for smuggling pool water concealed in their trunks).
