Shrigley Hall Hotel Golf & Country Club

Very shabby, poor food (our local inn does better), unhelpful staff. Stayed here for a weekend as part of a month long tour of England. This was by far and away the worst hotel we stayed in. A disgrace -we tried to complain to the manager but he/she was constantly unavailable - reading the last comments maybe he/she only talks to the handful of satisfied guests this hotel gets? Avoid avoid avoid.

Just returned from a fantastic few days at this hotel. To be fair the hotel could do with a refurbishment its starting to look slightly tired. However the setting, leisure centre and food more than compensate for this. Our advice is to ask for a room at the front like we had, the views over the golf course and lake were beautiful. My husband & I booked a weekend break and went onto your web site read the reviews and to be honest was concerned. Dont be, please , please visit Shrigley Hall its a lovelyold hotel great golf course (my husdand told me) and beautiful grounds. Nice hotel, lovely location, pity about the noise from the wedding party, the mould on the shower curtain and the chipped enamel in the bath but for a last minute rate of £40 per night not at all bad. Much better than a £50 per night in a motorway service station motel!

Having recently experiencing an enjoyable weekend at Shrigley Hall Hotel, we found it to be a lovely hotel. The room was well equiped and spacious, the food was excellent and the setting, well what can I say fabulous. Definatley will be reurning soon. Great value for money

Golly, wish I had read these reviews before I stayed. Luckily I got my room for £65 as it was a late booking. If I had paid full price I would have been very unhappy. The room was very poor, smelly from smoke, the bathroom smelt damp, altogether, not very nice. Dinner was very expensive and I would rate it as just OK. My husband paid £25 for a fillet steak, which came with half a tomato, watercress and friend onion rings, very pub food style, and he had to pay extra for vegetables!! My husband and I booked in for a weekend in a four poster room as a special treat to ourselves. Upon arrival we had to request that the room be re-cleaned as it was dirty, the furnishings were shabby and worn (especially the surfaces of the dressing table and bedside cabinets). Impressive hotel building, fantastic golf course, great views. Some bedrooms seem ready for refurb but generally clean and tidy. Staff v friendly and helpful. Good food. Will definitely visit again.

Recently stayed for a wedding but would have checked out immediately otherwise. Surly reception staff, shoddy management overall. The rooms were off warren-like dingy corridors and in need of a refurb - torn wallpaper, light bulbs gone, phone broken, holes in the bed linen, not even a bottle of water! So confusing to find your way out - glad there was no emergency. The first 'family room' we were given consisted of a very small double (couldn't swing a cat) with a tiny camp bed at the bottom of the bed (with someone else's socks beneath it).... more

Having read the reviews I was a bit concerened about coming to this hotel, but since it was a work conference for 3 days and I was not paying, I was looking forward to it. Yes, the rooms are strangely laid out and it took an age to find them (get the wrong lift, and you may not be able to get to your room, even if it is on the same floor, and the lifts are conveniently camouflaged for your inconvenience!), but once in it was a nicely laid out room; perhaps not 4 star standard, but 3 certainly.The decor was nice and fitting for and old... more
