Will be back!!!
from AnneHLondon
We stayed at the Chimney House Hotel for a couple of nights in August whilst visiting Alton Towers andChester. It was in a superb location (just of the M6). The hotel is set in lovely grounds and has just been refurbished. The decor was really nice. We were in a beautiful room which everything in there including the bathroom seemed to be brand new. The staff were really friendly and could not do enough for you. The restaurant is great and both the food and service was fantastic. We had a lovely stay and would not hesitate in recommending it...

Give this hotel a miss!!!
from pjsmith65
I used to stay at this hotel on a regular basis and am pleased to see that it is undergoing renovations at long last. the building looks very well presented from the outside but upon entering the reception area you can see it is tired and passed its sell by date. The food is of a very good quality, but the service has declined of late and I am sorry to say when you are paying the prices in which this hotel charges you do expect more. the gentlemen who is on the reception was disinterested when checking me in and had even less interest...

Beatiful on the outside, not so nice inside
from rileym
Stayed for three nights at this hotel in March. Beautiful country house hotel in pleasant surroundings. During my stay there were some major alterations going on in the main bar and reception areas so I cannot comment on the finished product. My room however was one of the most neglected I have stayed in for many, many years. The plastic sink was cracked, the windowsill had a couple of areas where the paint had flaked away exposing the wood underneath. There was quite a bit of rot around the window frame and it didnt close or seal well...

New Years Eve
from no1partybird
Just a short note to thank all the staff involved in the New Years Eve event. Myself and my partner both thought the meal excellent, the standard of service and friendliness of the staff was second to none. We will definately be booking again and can recommend this delightful hotel.
Stale
from EJPS
I got the poorest service compared to any other hotel I have stayed in the UK. The hygiene factor is very low. When I checked in I was met with a stale musty smell in the rooms. The tissue paper box was empty and the toilet rolls seemed almost finished. The bed throws and carpets are stained and very old. You can clearly hear the conversations and TV in the next rooms. The chances of your call being answered by the operator are low. The food is not good at all. To top it all the safety of the hotel is pretty low. There are no CCTV...

Better second time round!
from L1bster
I stayed at this hotel with my baby back in April and had a fairly awful experience, however much credit to the manager who offered us another opportunity to revisit the hotel. This time we had a much better stay, the room was spacious, clean and smoke free. There was a wedding on at the hotel which didn't affect us at all, a little noise at night but you expect that. If you like a good shower in the morning then you may be a little disappointed as the water pressure wasn't great - this we found on both occasions. The hotel is a...

lovely grounds, tired interior
from balgair
This was a last minute booking for myself and partner and we stayed 2 nights. Grounds and exterior of the building are picturesque. Inside "very tired", worn carpets, dead flies and insects on window sills, some shower tiles past their best and toilet bowl dirty with limescale. Typical hotel bedroom, rather sparing with tea bags and milk and one biscuit for two. Breakfast was plentiful and good variety except I would pass on the scrambled egg. Problems checking out when staff tried to overcharge me and it took time to sort out. I...

What in gods name won't people complain about?

It appears that Tripadvisor. has a bit of a case of ascertainment bias when it comes to reviews. I can't beleive two of the three reviews were so negative for what is quite a pleasant little hotel! My wife and I stayed in this hotel while we were travelling the length of the country. We come from a background of working in hotels in a variety of roles, and we were both at uni at the time. The welcome was very pleasant, with the receptionists being very competent and efficient. Saying that, were given the wrong time for the finish...

First time I've walked out of restaurant!!
from A TripAdvisor Member
A lovely building, accessible to M6 - thats the good side! Bad side - room acceptable but not great for rate charged - carpet in bathroom (hygiene disaster) and permanently dripping shower didn't help. Crowning glory was restaurant. No table for us despite being on DBB so wait 20 minutes to get in. 45 minutes from ordering to get starter, which was inedible - just not nice. 20 minutes later 'well done' steak appeared dripping in blood - returned to kitchen - sauce and sides left on table to chill. Discovered husband's medium steak was as...
