Super Wow!
from travelcounsellor1
Stayed at this hotel in June for one night. Booked an executive room but was upgraded free of charge to junior suite as it was our honeymoon. . The hotels location is the best. , right in the hart of the city's main street. Truelly five star from start to finish. Valet parking is available and I recommend you use this as the hotel is in a pedestrianised Zone and it's quite difficult to negotiate, it also enables you to stop directly outside the hotel and not to have to struggle with bags. It's free so why not take advantage...

Truly 5 Star
from ronfaddison
We stayed for one night - it was pricely but excellent. The foyer is modest by modern standards but it opens onto the Brasserie and a rather posh bar adjacent to the Arkle restaurant. We were received very well and were given instructions by a very helpful Conciege on how to get our car to the hotel (more of that later!). The reception was good and our luggage was taken straight to our room. It was a good size without being gigantic and was well equipped - including trouser press, mini bar and a safe. The decor and furnishing...

Myself and my partner stayed in the Grosvenor Hotel & Spa on a saturday night in May 06, it was a surprise for my partner for our 1year anniversary. I read all the reviews of this hotel on Trip advisor before hand but still wasnt too sure what to expect when we got there. I was not dissapointed. The hotel is pure class. Its beautiful inside, it has a real classy feel to it. The staff are great, very polite and profesional. The rooms although quite small for the price are lovely and have a real luxury feel to them. We didnt go in the Arkle...

Faultless!

IStayed just one night, will definitely stay longer next time. Exceptionally helpful, friendly, well trained professional staff . Lovely room, wonderful bed. Beautifully furnished and decorated elsewhere. Dinner and breakfast delicious and perfectly served - as was the champagne in the bar before dinner. Great position in centre of Chester. This is a lovely city and we should have had a longer stay.
Overpriced and rude and useless staff - all except Keith!

My wife and I stayed in the Governor in early March and were horrified at the cheek of the staff from the start. When we checked in we were asked if we wanted to upgrade from our booked Classic room for an extra £50 per night, and when we declined this we found ourselves being upgraded anyway! Hotels should not be allowed to do this. I have travelled all over the world and have experienced this many times, but never in what was once such a well respected, and managed hotel! I have to comment of the management as when I asked to speak...

shame about the food

18/3/06, Julie 42 ,Ralph 54. The hotel is in a great location right on the main shopping street in the middle of the city. The room was large and well decorated, there are no tea & coffee making facilities which i thought was a bit mean.We had our evening meal in the La Brasserie restaurant which was very poor for a 5 star hotel, the breakfast was worse with some things on a limited menu unavailable. My wife ordered a " special omlette " which we could barely find on an empty plate!,I left nearly half of my " traditional " breakfast.The...

we did not stay at the hotel, but ate in their restaurant, the arkle. what can i say, we were treated like royalty with just the right amount of attention but not over the top. the service was exemplary, the food amazing and beautifully presented. we chose the gourmand menu which was a beautiful set menu of 6 courses, including sea bass fillet, mutton with langoustine and truffles, and deep fried coconut ice cream. they had a wonderful bread board with over 10 homemade breads to choose from. the meal was fantastic. however, i do feel...

Abit disappointing

My husband and I stayed in the hotel for one night, to celebrate our birthdays. When we arrived we were greeted by the sight of scaffolding covering the whole of the front of the hotel. As our room was facing the front, this meant very little view! However there were no workmen working on the Saturday so it didn't seem to be too much of a problem. We were checked in by a very friendly and polite man, to whom nothing was too much trouble. Our Room was beautiful. The television let out a loud squealing noise after being on for more than...

Simply the best

Just returned from an extremely romantic night away, this hotel is everything you would expect from a 5* and much more, from the moment you arrive you are made to feel like you are the only guests at the hotel, the staff are all so attentive but not intrusive even though this is a very grand hotel it is by no means snooty the staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble even on such a busy night as valentines. This is the 2nd time we have stayed at the Grosvenor and wouldn't dream of staying at another hotel in chester you couldn't...

I'd go there again!
from thetaxwoman
My husband booked us into the Grosvenor's Sales Special - 3 nights for the price of 2 - for my birthday. We had a wonderful weekend, starting with the "double upgrade" from a Classic to an Executive room. The most noticeable thing about this hotel is that it's properly staffed, so that everywhere is well-maintained and spotlessly clean, and every member of staff has time for you. We ate at the Brasserie for two nights and at a friendly but cheap'n'cheerful Italian on the third evening, recommended by Dave the friendly and helpful...
