This is a top-quality hotel. The reception staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the hotel was spotless, the food was fantastic and the room superb (the bed must have been about 7 feet wide!!) We only stayed for 1 night whilst visiting Chester but were extremely... more

Oh! dear De Vere - what has happened to you?
from sheba38
My partner booked a five day break as a celebration of my retirement. We had hoped for a peaceful and relaxing stay. What we didn't realise was that this hotel is primarily aimed at accommodating business personnel Monday to Friday. The place was full of the "laptop and mobile" brigade. It was impossible to find a quiet spot in the lounge to read a book. Our room was never serviced before 3 p.m. so we felt obliged to stay out until it was done. Having said that, the suite itself was excellent - very roomy and comfortable. It's just a pity we couldn't get in it in the afternoon to escape the networkers downstairs! We actually went home early because of the noise in the hotel on the last night. Loud disco music at one 'o clock in the morning. We checked out just after this time and drove home overnight. All in all we were very disappointed with De Vere .Having spent a suberb break in Cameron House a couple of years ago, we assumed we would get the same quality. It really spoilt what should have been a relaxing and poignant time in my life having just retired. But we will remember St. David's for all the wrong reasons.

Booked for one night just to get away. First mistake we made was getting this confused with the other De Vere - so we went to that fist which looked fantastic setting on a golf course etc. This was more on a business park - so we didn't mind, but do be more careful than us! Ate in the restaurant for dinner which was a carvery style - you could eat A La Carte but looked very expensive relative to where we were (ie on a business park!). Food was as expected - but they couldn't really have got it too far wrong!! The hotel was full, and so we nearly didn't get a table - not sure what our local options would have been, so best to book in advance rather than wait til you arrive if you do want to just drop your bags and relax in the hotel. So if you are just looking for somewhere for a night to rest this is fine.
What is a hot spot not?
from becksyno7
This hotel was clean, well staffed and generally good for the money. The only real problem I could see was that you felt like you was at work, the reception/bar area was rammed with people having meetings, browsing laptops (it must be a hot spot!), and generally acting like David Brent. The pool, steam room and sauna were well kept and after about 10am you had them to yourself. A cab to Chester was about £7 and was well worth the trip, a lovely walled city, nice bars (though gay bars were very thin on the ground, if that's your thing) and good shopping. The restraunt in the hotel was up to a good standard but you paid for it, if you wanted a snack (pizza, sandwich type thing) the reception bar was resonably priced and quite nice too, but best to wait a while until the "lets do lunch" brigade have left for the golf course or what ever else it is they get up to instead of the jobs they are paid for. All in all, quite impressed with the facilities and staff.
Not bad at all!

Recently stayed at this hotel for my Dad's 60th birthday weekend as it was conveniently situated for all the family to access. The hotel is clean, fairly modern and offers comfortable accommodation. The gym and pool facilities are fine as well. The food was very good indeed and plenty of choice. The hotels greatest attribute are the staff who are very helpful and polite. The setting is not wonderful as it is on a business park so don't book this if your are wanting an area of outstanding natural beauty!! The hotel is probably most suited to Business people wanting a comfortable convenient stay just off the motorway however it is also good value for a short break.
Great Stay
from Harristravel
We have just had a great stay at this hotel. We booked a weekend special from De Vere Website, 2 nights with Dinner on first night and breakfast both mornings. It is the first time we have done a De Vere Break, we usually book the Hilton special breaks. This hotel out shined all Hiltons we have stayed at in the UK, from the hotel ambience right down to the Customer service. From checking in to checking out we had a great experience, very friendly and efficient staff, lovely food and nice hotel, grab a De Vere break sometime, I'm sure you will not be disappointed, we will certainly be testing some more.
nice hotel, deciving location!
from timmymolly
we stopped at st davids park on the 18 nov, there was no real problem with hotel although looking at the pictures before hand i thought that it would of been in a more secluded location this wasnt really a problem just a bit disappointing! the spa/ health club was very good- we didnt eat in the restaurant as it was overpriced. ideal for a weekend in chester but overall it is not much better than a holiday inn or travel lodge!
Nice rooms - eat elsewhere
from tm32
Stayed midweek on a special laterooms price. The hotel is quite large and just off an A road but there was no noise in the room but could be in summer with windows open. The rooms were very nice as you would expect. Breakfast was a good buffet but can get very busy as the hotel hosts conferences during the day. Was ok for our stay but it was very busy on our last day, aim for a breakfast before 9am if the hotel is busy. The hotel has a main restaurant which is very expensive and clearly targeted to business travellers at around £30 a main with sides not included. The bar menu finishes at 6pm, and that leaves the lesiure centre snack oriented meals at around £8-£10 but not an ideal place to eat dinner as it overlooks the pool and no atmosphere. Room service is a better option if your not eating outside the hotel, recommend the burger as it was very good. The hotels location is near a business park and we could not find anywhere else to eat (commented also by other guests at the hotel), so be prepared to drive into chester itself or research where to eat before staying here. The leisure club was quite good, the pool and spa were very good. What was very disappointing was the exhorbiant cost of internet access. At something like £3 for 10mins or in room for 12hrs at £15 its a complete ripoff. These days you expect either a free or inexpensive wifi hotspot. Definitely targeted towards business travellers with no price objections. Highly recommend researching where to east before staying here and printing maps if no sat nav as the surrounding area can get very confusing to navigate.
Fantastic Birthday Choice
from Presto2
We have just returned from a fantastic weekend break at St David's and have to write a review as a way of saying 'thank you' to them! The weekend was a surprise to celebrate my father's 80th birthday and the whole experience has restored my faith in British customer service! The hotel is quite new - about 16 yrs old we think - and we are guessing that it has recently undergone quite a lot of decorating / refurbishing etc as the rooms were even better than the last time we stayed there - excellent. (We plan to add photos later!) They were bright, modern and had everything you could ask for. Ours overlooked the lovely garden area in the middle of the hotel and the sound proofing was so good that we wondered if anyone else was staying there! The beds are exceptionally comfy - bliss! The dining room was excellent - the staff fantastic. The food was very good. If you ate a la carte it can be quite pricey but we made use of the 3 courses for £23 offer (where the main course was a superb carvery) and this was excellent value for money. Breakfast was excellent as well - there was a good choice of everything that you would expect to see - from a simple continental breakfast & healthy options to the full blown full English breakfast (we had the latter and are now on a diet!) The pool area is lovely and the new conservatory , (now a non smoking area is fantastic) Having said this, the thing that stands out most is the customer service: The hotel made sure that my elderly parents were 'looked after' and at no request from us they were based in a special 'disabled' room - this was much appreciated. The staff overheard our conversation at dinner and presented my dad with a lovely little surprise - a candle on the dessert and a specially decorated plate to say a Happy Birthday--- a lovely little touch. The staff in the restaurant were really cheery and made my parents feel very special . The staff certainly all look like they enjoy working there - from the young man who served our drinks, to the waiter clearing tables, to the young waitresses serving, everyone had a smile and a cheery word. The bar staff made my paretns feel really special and they received a free 'birthday drink' on the 2nd day. When I was unsure about what drink on our last evening the bar manager offered me a free 'trial' to see if I would like mu choice! It was a very 'large' free trial - excellent customer service! We could go on and on about the many incidents that made our weekend a really memorable treat - we could not have made a better choice and have no doubt at all that we will be returning there one day. We all have no hesitation in recommending this fabulous hotel
Nice place for a short break
from vintagecouple
We have just returned from a 2 night stay at the Devere St. Davids Park, outside Chester but within easy access of North Wales. The hotel was very good with excellent breakfast. The first night we ate in the restaurant, one course off the a'la carte menu but felt although good was expensive with vegetables as an extra. There was a carvery which looked good and seemed to be very popular. The next morning we drove to the heritage village of Port Sunlight and well worth the half hour drive. We will definitely visit again and allow ourselves more time. We then drove on to Chester and bought a 99p map from tourist office and followed the suggested route, calling in at Grosvenor Museum, down to the river and walked part of the walls. Enjoyed the architecture and the shops. We ate early evening at the Ristorante Toscana, 52/54 Lower Bridge Street. which I had seen reviewed in trip advisor. We were told tuesdays we could have three courses with wine for £12.90. Excellent food and value in upstairs vaulted dining room and the perfect end to a lovely short break.

Another standard 4 star hotel, room slightly warn, breakfast rubber eggs and bacon or cereal. Nothing special. Staff friendly and helpful. Swimming pool and gym and snack bar all good. Good location, on the A55 close to Chester and easy access to the north Wales coast.... more
