Warm welcome, friendly staff
from MYSTERYSHOPPER74
Only stayed one night but from the moment we arrived we were made very welcome. Staff very friendly and efficient, nothing too much trouble. Clean room, needed better shower. Breakfast good but could be improved. Would stay again for the hospitality. Hotel is undergoing renovation which did not impact on our stay. Good luck to them, as the staff deserve for this hotel to succeed.
Relaxed and very friendly
from christinaEastMids
This hotel is a bit of a gem. It's location is ideal for exploring the town and its proximity to the Opera House perfect. It serves up great food with respect for quality produce at reasonable prices. The hotel can be described as having a distinctly British feel to it, retaining an element of personality that sets it apart from the big multinationals. I will return
ok for a stop over
from aspinblue
Booked in here after a day trip to buxton and decided to stay over. This was right by the park and not far from other attractions. The room was very clean and pleasant. The staff very friendly and welcoming. The breakfast ewas not up to much - full breakfast but tasted funny to both myself and my partner we both left the cooked breakfast and stuck with some fruit. overall nice for a stopover although we paid £95 for bed and breakfast would have rated it more like £80.

Friendly But Average

We booked to stay here after reading reviews on this website. However as we drove in to Buxton really wished we'd picked the Palace it just looked so impressive. Everywhere was covered with snow and it was very cold. The hotel car park was not gritted. The staff were friendly enough one even carried our suitcase in as she arrived for work. Clearly we had misunderstood "quirky" I suppose we thought quirky might mean bohemian but it doesn't it just means odd! We obviously had the Brad Pitt room as the walls were all covered with photograghs of...

Lovely hotel
from cheeky_chimpy
Stayed on the weekend of 29/07/06. We had a superior room, which was lovely, it was spacious and very clean. The hotel also has a A la Carte Restaurant, the food was wonderfull, the service great. The hotel overall is in a great location for tourists or events in town. Across the road from it is The Opera House, and the beautiful Pavilion Gardens. The staff are the friendliest we have came across. One word of warning there was a party going on till late either downstairs or next door, it didnt borther us but might borther...

Nice place shame about the neighbours
from A TripAdvisor Member
As busy parents, the purpose of the stay was a relaxing evening with a good sleep. The accomodation is a good 3 star with pleasant staff keen to help. It did feel a bit like a retirement home and the '4 poster room' was disappointing as it felt cheap and had John Travolta everywhere you looked? The double shower overflowed onto the floor and attempts to seal the floor rather deal with the problem were evident. Overall the room was pleasant for 3 star however the £130 per room per night was way over priced and the neighbouring hotel with a...

The staff were friendly enough, the rooms reasonably clean, however, it just felt like an old peoples home! It was distictly average, the room deperately required refurbishment! I wouldn't go back or recommend it.
Buxton's best hotel
from fivestarfrankie
This hotel is a little gem, classy but informal. Everything is right about it and although less expensive than the Palace has usurped it's crown !
