We were worried as we found this hotel on lastminute.com at £25 per room per night for an executive room in an AA rated 3 star hotel, we booked and arrived. The hotel is just outside chesterfield with restaurants all around, the hotels own restaurant for breakfast was... more

Nice Motel, not Hotel
Very friendly and helpful staff, good food. Disappointing room, ideal for business person or people passing through. We wanted a night away (escape from kids), but were disappointed with hotel location and room. We were upgraded from standard double to executive double, but shower was faulty, receptionist did offer to swap our room. Asked for extra pillows and were supplied within 10 minutes. Service really was good.
Agreable stay again.
Stayed in the family room for the third year running. Only for the one night, arrived late to be greated with a friendly smile and the room ready with our request for extra pillows. Lovely, warm and welcoming, just what was needed with the snow outside. Breakfast was superb.
What a dump
On arrival at the hotel, or should that be motel, we were met by the receptionist who was surly and unfriendly despite me trying to make pleasant conversation with her. We went to allocated room which was on the outside of the building, up two flights of stairs and with two other "hotel room" doors around it...a bit like the old 1960's council flats. Inside the room wasn't much different, decor outdated, a huge hole in the door with a footprint quite clear in it and a tv almost on the ceiling which you couldn't watch without lying flat on... more
What a great hotel!
We visited the Sandpiper last year and thought it was excellent value. We used it again last week and it seemed even better. The place is lovely and clean, the staff are very friendly and, above all, the food in Fanshawe's Restaurant was superb. By using the 'Dinner, Bed & Breakfast' package, the value was incredible. Definitely one of our favourite hotels.
Great staff
Recently refurbshed (reception now in the centre of the hotel where previously there was a gap between the two buildings) the room was clean, had great amenities and the staff were very helpful and considerate. Didn't have chance to eat at the hotel but would recommend the rooms. Very good rates at the hotel for this time of year.
a lovely experience
my wife and myself stayed overnight and found the sandpiper to be a really nice, cleanhotel the bed was the most comfortable ever.the meals were very nice .would recomend the sandpiper
Great disappointment and poor quality service
In total agreeance with another tripadvisor user's comments on here, we found this hotel to be of poor quality service/standards and a total disappointment in all. The rooms were indeed like prison cells with terrible views, poorly stocked rooms, noisy, dark, unclean, with very poor room service, and as for the so called "service" of the Hotel staff themselves this indeed was non-existent, infact arrogant, disorganised, unfriendly, unhelpful, and unco-operative. The restaurant was no better, again with poor quality food and disorganised... more
Comfortable Accommodations
Stayed at the Sandpiper Inn in April, 2003. Very large, clean, quiet room. Reasonable price. Located in a quiet, nondescript residential/commercial area, only 5 minutes north of Chester. Location easy to find and to get around (considering that we had only been driving in England for two days at that point). Cannot offer comment on the hotel's restaurant.
Super Sandpiper.
My wife and I have just returned from a weeks vacation in the peak district of Derbyshire, England. We based ourselves at he Sandpiper as it is pretty much in the centre of that region. The room was cosy and comfortable, restaurant charming with good food and friendly service. The whole experience was just as we like it. Hell, Bob Geldof was staying there at the same time, so I guess if it is good enough for sir Bob, then it's o.k. for me!
Just so absolutely dreadful
Well, what can I say. This hotel advertises itself with the catchline 'always Just So', what they don't tell you is that it's always just so absolutely dreadful. The rooms are like prison cells, the view from both sides means you keep your curtains shut, the service is non-existent and the food is cooked by Lucretia Borgia. Stay away from this place, everybody else is......
