" The Little Known Gem in the Indian... "
Submitted By: Mrs B Meadows
The Little Known Gem in the Indian Ocean.
This was our second visit, for 20 nights this time, to Ranweli and we were not disappointed.
This is a fantastic hotel. It is not the epitome of luxury, but if you have chosen an eco-friendly holiday on a nature reserves then it more than exceeds expectations.
Beach bungalows are simple and very clean (you may share with the odd small lizard as it passes through and the chipmunky squirrels will be waiting for you to hand-feed them). Sitting on the veranda watching the waves and fishing boats is sublime.
Staff at the hotel are the friendliest and most helpful that I have ever met, so much so that we will be joining the many regular returnees that Ranweli attracts.
Food is something that they take great pride in. The choice is extensive; there wasn't a meal that I didn't put too much on my plate!
Whilst there I tried the Ayurvedic centre twice for the full body treatment. I slithered out-both from the oils and because I was so relaxed.
We booked half board through Virgin and then upgraded to all inclusive on arrival. This saved quite an amount as the daily rate is subject to a 20% reduction for ten nights or over...£16 down to £12.80!
This also applies to travelling independently and booking directly (bed and breakfast, half, full and all inclusive...5 nights or more 10% reduction on stay, 10 night’s gives a 20% off)
Trips out.....Go with Anthony but haggle! We had two fantastic overnight trips.
If he offers to take you to Negombo by boat {£10 for 4 people} be sure to tell him if you don't want to visit his uncles jewellery shop. Use the Star Gems on the resort as they are fab (haggle) and don't let yourself be guided to his favourite clothing stall on the market unless you really want clothes.
Eating out...no one beats Anthony’s Prawns and Lobsters
There is so very much more I would like to glow about this hotel and holiday...Please please try it!

As other people have said the accommodation isn’t world class but if you want that sort of thing go to Dubai with everyone else, we thought it was perfect.
On my 10th wedding anniversary I sent them an email to thank them for their part in our day only to get a really nice reply from the manager thanking us for including them in our wedding and thinking of them.
If you are considering getting married in Sri Lanka please go to Ranwelli as it will not disappoint you, it will make the most special day of your life just that little bit more special.
