The Stuart Derby.
Firstly Derby is a bit of a provincial town with some nice old streets to wander through a nice cocktail bar or 2 and a great restaurant called Zest, tucked up a side street somewhere. Has another good restaurant but memory fails me.
The rest of Derby has wannabe doormen keeping the locals in order. Derby then is not really a posh city, even for Derbyshire I guess.
So on to the Stuart, nice lobby, racket making swishy looking bar just off the lobby, with eponymous local magnet, yes a big screen TV. God is there no escape.
Nice looking dining/ breakfast room to the right of the lobby as well. I was looking forward to my, as the website states, "freshly cooked breakfast.” Great no stale cardboard bacon I think.
Asked for a non-smoking quiet double. Got a smoking double right near the lobby, so I wouldn't imagine that to be too quiet. Was moved by nice Spanish lobby staff guy, second room smelled better. At first.
After a bit the air con was pushing cigarette smoke into our room too. How romantic/ stinky dependent on your point of view. Beds comfy and firm. Bathroom and all clean.
£10 Woollies fridge interestingly not stocked and racketous and massively heat generating. Still after unplugging it, all’s well. Side boards by bed, varnish peeling. Needs a bit of TLC.
Breakfast day 1 and day 2. Eponymous hot plated stale cooked breakfast. Ho hum. This was particularly annoying as there's a massive difference between a breaky cooked at 4am and one fresh from the grill. And the hotel charges extra, with a poncy staffed rostrum to pass by en route to such delights.
Check out. Hmmm. That'll be £110pn. WHAT? That’s not what your website said. Oh that'll be £110 for both nights. Better. Still, it’s pretty steep for a slightly tatty, hotel in the provinces and a stale breaky.
Wouldn't recommend.
Given it 2 out of 10. 1 point for the ease of move, 1 point for nice bed.

Firstly, this hotel is very expensive not only to stay but for extras like meals or room service. The rooms are very small but pack in all the necessary features, just don't expect any extra space.
The beds are uncomfortable but nicely presented, but beware the walls are so thin you can hear people coughing rooms away. We personally got zero sleep due to noisy "neighbours". The car park is far too small and people with large cars will struggle. The hotel is near to the station, and its a useful base for trips to theme parks and cities.
Overall, the hotel is well presented but somewhat impractical and doesn't really warrant the hefty price tag you will be paying.

Letter of complaint I wrote to The Stuart Hotel:
To whomever it may concern,
I do not normally write letters of complaint as I have never felt the need to really do so, however, after my awful stay at your hotel I feel compelled to do so.
A standard room was booked as it seemed well equipped and reasonably priced (oh how wrong I was!). A group of four of us decided to eat in your restaurant for convenience/time reasons and intended to move onto the bar afterwards. This was not possible due to the ridiculous amount of time we had to wait for our food (is it really reasonable to have one waitress and one chef working on a Friday evening!?) - in excess of 90 mins even though there were only 6 people in the restaurant! The waitress (who told us she had been working approx 12 hrs already) was obviously tired and seemed exasperated when we asked to make small modifications to our order i.e. mashed potatoes instead of chips. When the food finally arrived, the 3 steaks were all overcooked (even black!) and cold, the mashed potato was lumpy and one portion had half the quantity relative to its peers. My friend even commented "I wouldn't feed this to my dog!". And for all this we paid £100!? I find this laughable and an insult! Subsequently, none of use were in the mood to socialise so decided to skip the bar and call it a night...
At some early hour of Sat morning I was rudely woken by a group of lads running up and down the hall, shouting at each other. Now this went on for several hours and resulted in my only getting approx 4 hrs sleep that night, which in turn left me tired for my trip to Alton Towers; skipping several rides as I was still seething at having to pay in excess of £100 for substandard service (in hindsight a Travelodge would've been the better choice!) and thoroughly ruining my weekend.
Do you really think this is the type of service you should be providing and have the cheek to charge for? As a group you should be embarrassed! I for one will never be exposing myself to such a substandard, inadequate, parsimonious and godawful service by staying at your hotel (hovel!) again.
