Jul 2008, Mrs JL Jackson

We stayed here for 5 nights in a tower suite. The location of the hotel is beautiful and the rooms are stylishly decorated to a high standard. The staff is excellent - nothing is too much trouble and they are professional and friendly at all times. We had a celebration... more

My Wife and I stayed only one night but found the hotel very worthy of its 4 star rating and 2AA rosette restaurant. The hotel is located next to the river with wonderful views. Service was excellent; dinner in the restaurant was a very pleasurable experience and the room... more

The Dinner was top of the range
The hotel`s minimalist decor is suitable for a younger generation than my wife and me. Walls painted white and mushroom are not our idea of great decor but that appears to be the modern design throughout this hotel (although only white in the bedrooms!). However more important is the restaurant where the food (A la carte Menu) is the best we have tasted for a long time. We have experienced on a number of occasions the cooking of Raymond Blanc at Le Manoir and Ramsay at the Connought and Claridges Hotels in Oxford and London, resp. and... more
fantastic friendly hotel
Stayed at the Priest House with my partner for a late birthday/early valentines treat. Staff were v.friendly on arrival. The deluxe room we had booked was 1st class (if a little warm!). Stylish and spacious and v.welcoming (the beds are v.bouncy!). The huge plasma screen is a bonus as well as the cd/dvd player (just remember to take along a selection to play/watch). Booked a meal in the restaurant that evening and were not disappointed. 6 excellent courses. Menu was v.exciting and tasted amazing. Some of the courses were... more
fantastic xmas!!
I stayed at this hotel over the xmas period with my partner and children and i have to say, i'm amazed i enjoyed it more than being at home! All the staff we encountered were in such high spirits and nothing was too much trouble. We checked in with ease, the lovely gentleman on reception offering to help with our luggage, and were delighted to find some presents for us in our rooms, they were nothing much - just some gift packed toiletries and chocolates - but it was such a personal touch it made an impression! On christmas day itself we had... more
real nice place
We stayed at the Priest house for our 1st year anniversary and it was beautiful. It was snowing very hard, but the roads were clear on the way down, even if there were no street lights which was abit scary, but helped in placing the Priest House in its natural beauty. As soon as we arrived we were greeted and given our room keys and were able to book a table in the restaurant. The restaurant, i thought, was abit pricey, but that might be because I'm not use to the luxury element. The food was nice and the atmosphere was... more
A bit over priced
We stayed there to attend a wedding. Other friends stayed in the standard double rooms which were quite dark, these were also about 100 yards away from the main hotel. We had an executive double which was in the main building, our room was bright and well equipped. Breakfast was OK but nothing special. I have stayed at other hotels in this group and this one is not really of the same standard.
Superficial style but doesn't deliver on its promise
We stayed at the Priest's House in late Jan 2005. Largely on the basis that it was well recommended in tripadvisor.com and is part of the Hand Picked group owned by Guy and Julia Hands. Booking was a very pleasant experience. I have three children so we generally need a 3 bed and a double with connecting doors or a large suite. I spoke to James who was very helpful and managed to find us two connecting rooms at GBP120 each. I queried the rate as expedia showed GBP90 and he was able to reduce this to GBP95 per room including... more
Book the "executive" room!
I've stayed at the Priest House a number of times over the past three or four years on both business and vacation travel. This is normally a quiet, restful location, only a stone's throw from East Midlands Airport. It's at the end of a very long cul-de-sac but note that the approach roads around Castle Donington can become impassably choked when there is racing at Donington Park. The "executive" rooms in the main building are very, very comfortable (including plasma screen TVs, DVDs &c) whereas the "Rook Cottage" rooms, although still... more
Wonderful location and Hotel
We were recommended this hotel by friends and decided to stay in one of the suites which was beautifully docorated and laid out if a little small. The service was very good except from the rather cold and unfriendly lady on reception. The only mar on the weekend was that the suites are somewhat peculairly situated above the function rooms which were hosting a wedding and therefore we were unable to have any peace and quiet until the end of the disco. However we were given a small reduction on the room rate and free room service... more
Excellent Executive Rooms!
My partner & I were offered an excellent deal on this hotel over the May 2004 Whitsun bank holiday break - £25 each for an executive double room and 2 for 1 in either the a la carte or brasserie restaurant. As we approached the hotel through the narrow country lanes our anticipation grew, and we weren't to be disppointed. The hotel is set on the banks of the river, and consists of an original old building together with a newer extension. The setting is amazing ands on a warm sunny day such as when we arrived, the sun glistens on the... more
Wonderful summer hotel
My fiance and I visited this hotel for a one night break for our anniversary. We got an excellent deal for the rooms through the internet, although we spent as much on food! It is expensive when you get there. Drinks fairly expensive too - £15 for 2 small house wines, 2 glasses of coke and a small bottle of water. There was a few small problems. Given a rook cottage to start off with instead of the executive room that we'd booked. However, we pointed out the error and the staff were incredibly helpful and corrected it immediately. The... more
