Palace Hotel

I stayed at this hotel in June as a guest at a friends wedding. The wedding was fantastic, i boogied in to the wee small hours which was a blessing really because it meant i spent less time in our room. The room we were given reminded me of a pokey back street B & B in Blackpool. The decor was dark and dated and the outlook from my room looked onto flat pitch rooves. Paint was flakeing off the ceiling and the windows were screwed down which made the room feel vary oppresive. We had little space, the double bed took up most of the room.... more

Stayed there for four nights 29th May - 1st June 2006. Having read some previous posts we were a bit concerned and expecting some problems but everything was fine. Went on a package tour with WAShearings for £512 total for two adults including travel from the South East , breakfast and evening meal plus excursions. We got a huge room on the third floor with a great view over the town, bathroom and room were fine. My husband booked this hotel as a break for us both with out my knowing...and has promised to always book together in future. On arrival to our room the first thing we did was to ask to be moved. Our room was dark and dismal with no view and a very unwelcoming en-suite. The hotel was fully booked and with a deposit paid we had to stay. The facilities at the Health Club were of the same standard, shabby and run down. Just got back from a weekend at the Palace, styed there whilst attending a friends wedding in a nearby village. We paid the full £128 per night for B&B (I think that meant we didn;t get charged the parking fee as well!), worst value I've experienced in a while. The communal areas have had a facelift, but the bedrooms were small & ours smelt damp. A great place with great, friendly staff. Stayed for one night over the easter bank holiday, paid £75 for a double room which included a great breakfast, booked via laterooms. We also were given a free, three course sunday lunch, which would normally have cost £30 for the two of us. The sunday lunch was great...a choice of waitress served starters followed by a self serve carvery with as much food as you could eat! There was just enough room to try one of the multiple desserts that was on offer...but didn't leave enough room... more

My wife and I booked one night in the Palace Hotel 12/03/06. Having booked, I read some negative reviews on this website and phoned back to confirm that the alleged defects had been corrected. We need not have bothered as the quality of the hotel was excellent. The room was generous in size, clean and beautifully prepared with splenedid views over Buxton. The food and service was first class together with use of the sports facilties. The staff, many of whom were young,were exceedingly polite very helpful, clean and presentable... more

To be upgraded to a suite on arrival was a very pleasant surprise and as there was the availability we stayed an extra night. Weve stayed a number of times in the past and will definately be back. I would recommend this hotel to everyone and consider it to be the best Paramount Hotel.

We stayed at the Palace for the sixth time recently and it was as good as ever, friendly staff, clean rooms and good food. Our daughters, their husbands and children, with an age range of one to twelve, came with us and all enjoyed their stay. There was a fire alarm while we were there and we were reassured at the efficiency of the staff during the evacuation. Palace Hotel was everything we'd expect for a short family stay,despite some differing reviews . The accommodation was very good-a large family room . The food excellent and the staff couldn't have been more pleasant with a varied mixture of British and foreign staff. Clearly it has recently had a bit of an overhaul as stated to the tune of 300k. The only slight niggle was whilst using the leisure pool when a 'gym'member thought she had more right to be there than a hotel guest!

The room I stayed in was spacious, but in need of some TLC. The rest of the hotel again was spacious but suffered from lack of attention. The staff were not particularly helpful and senior management were in fact quite rude.! Menu choice was appalling, no vegetarian option and to charge residents for parking in the car park is very odd. Would I stay again..? If the price was right and I was desperate, then yes...For a romantic weekend away, then a definite NO.
