10 out of 10. I was married at the Asbourne Hotel on the 27th of Sept 2008. The hotel is very comfortable and warm, very clean and in a lovely setting. The staff are fantastic and will do anything to make your stay a good one. Rob the Manager of the hotel is very... more

In my opinion I would NOT recommend this Hotel
As in last review published, the Bathrooms are unkempt with Cobwebs and Mold - Very dated
The bedrooms are small - not like one pictured on Web site - with no information in them as to even making a phone call !
I would recommend Finding another Hotel - not worth any room rate in my opinion .

This hotel was lovely! Me and my boyfriend stayed here for two nights as we were going to Alton Towers which is only a short drive away from the hotel. The staff at this hotel were really helpful, and very friendly. The room we stayed in was lovely, it was very clean and... more

Quality in question?
Very disappointed - booked hotel through play & stay for two adults & child triple room, hotel was not as advertised on the website. Food ok & reasonably priced. Room was very dated, with very small tv,cramped bathroom, very uncomfortable beds & lack of heating control. Leisure club good but additional charges for usage & towels was unnecessary .Stayed at Novotel Leeds previous night for same cost but facilities & overall stay much superior. Quality is not the word which springs to mind after our first & last stay at this mediocre midlands hotel!
nice pool
hotel was very nice with a great bar black sheep. staff very helpful breakfat was good buffet style but the coffe was horrid. the gym was very small with just about 4 machines to work on. pool steam room and suna was very nice. room was small but clean bathroom very dated great location and good restuarants near by. good location to get to alton towers. clean towels every day. all in all a good hotel would stay again.
OK for people without a bad back
This rather ordinary hotel has pros and cons. The cons are, the reception staff are quite unfriendly and do not voluteer any info on the hotel facilities. I had a twin room which was a bit bog standard, the bathroom was tiny and cramped and the beds extremely uncomfortable. I have stayed in quite a few Hiltons that charge only slightly more than this hotel does and provide a much better service. They also charge you to use the pool and gym which considering the hotel wasn't even half full, I find ridiculous. The pros are, the car parking is free and spacious. There is quite a few sat channels on the tvs in the rooms. The rooms are clean. The breakfast in the restaurant is excellent. The best part of the hotel is the "Black Sheep" bar as the staff are friendly and efficient, the food is very good and varied and is served in monster portions, the drinks are pub prices, the decor is excellent and comfortable and the bar is spacious. There is also a very large tv for sports fans. Overall the Blacksheep bar was the saving grace of this hotel. Would not recommend to anyone that finds it uncomfortable sleeping on a rock
Very bog-standard
The name is slightly misleading, as this is a very average hotel in anyone's book. Was only staying for a night, which was just as well really. The bathroom was the low point, quite grubby and cramped (because of the oversized sink taking up all the space) The power of the shower meant that everything got soaked once it was on...kind of made it like a wet-room without the damp-proofing, On the other hand, the bed was comfy, and it wasn't too noisy. Didn't use any of the facilities, so can't comment on that. In summary, if you're just looking for a place for the night - it'll do. I'd find somewhere else you're in the area for longer.
Could do better for Quality
Reception area was rather dark & dingy, rooms need updating as la ittle tired. Staff not quite rude but they did not go out of their way to make us feel welcomed. On the plus side reasonable price, leisure facilities (but you have to pay extra), breakfast good
Room for improvement
Staff very pleasant & friendly & helpful in hotel & bar; did not try restaurant as very expensive. Rooms tired & desperately in need of refurbishment and a good clean. Bar & bar meals reasonable value, but little choice & some menu items not available. Breakfasts fine.. Leisure club / pool seem good, but should be included in price. Stayed there as close to Alton Towers, but would not stay again.
stank to death by smoke
recently stayed at this hotel for a one night stay on business Even though the room was booked over a week in advance and a no smoking room was requested as i was the "last to check in "as the receptionist put it i was handed keys to a smoking room which frankly "STANK" Upon complaining at the front desk i was told the hotel was full with no rooms availabe to move me to and would you believe was offered an air freshner I went back to the room in utter amazement and disgust and when i turned the bedding back all the bottom sheet was ripped to peices. I returned to reception and demanded to speak to the duty manager who was not at all helpfull and when i asked for a refund the receptionist suddenly came round to me and said that a room had become available after all in the non smoking section of the hotel but it was a twin I moved my bags over into this room and was not impressed rooms are tired and in need of refurb bathrooms antequated and poor state of repair rusty old rubbish bin in bathroom and quite frankly probably worth more like £40 than the £80 I paid Skipped breakfast as by the morning I had had enough of the place and the indifferent service i would rather travel the 155 miles home than stay in this place again You have been warned
Too many extra costs
We stayed here one night, having booked 2 bed & breakfast (full breakfast) for 2 adults & 2 children, through a booking agency we used previously on our trip. We knew there was an extra charge to use the pool, but as we were travelling with children, decided to pay it. The rooms were basic, but adequate and the pool was OK, but no better than those places we had stayed that did not charge extra. Upon checking out, we were told that we owed for 2 childrens breakfasts and the morning paper. This was the 4th hotel of our trip and this had never happened before. When I questioned the charges, I was told it was the policy of the booking agency. When I disputed that, as none of the other hotels had charged these fees, I was then told it was the policy of this hotel. I felt at the time no recourse but to pay. We followed up with a letter to the hotel, which was ignored. We then contacted the parent company of the hotel and three months later received a reply from the hotel that basically said they charge what they want and too bad for the customer. We would certainly never stay there again and I find the extra, hidden charges outrageous. You should be able to find a hotel that can provide a pool and breakfast for less than The Quality Hotel. If you have to book there and have a family, skip the breakfast!
Accommodation basic but leisure club excellent
Have just spent one night at this hotel as we were going to Alton Towers the next day and wanted to stay nearby (only 15 mins away.) General decor of public rooms is good and clean - there is a comfortable bar area although apparently drinks prices are high. Had 2 twin rooms which were small and basic and rather disappointing. All facilities were provided and adequate but nothing special. By far the best feature of the hotel is the leisure club. The pool was a good size (water warm) and a well-equipped small gym with new sauna and steam room. Did not eat dinner there (informed it was expensive and not worth the price) but breakfast was OK - usual cooked and/or cereals etc. Was put off by the stained chair covers in the dining room! Average value for money - we paid £45 pp for B & B. Would recommend for 1 or 2 nights but do not expect luxury! We would not stay there again. Expect a Travel Lodge type standard with the bonus of a leisure club.
Good value, good service
I had to spend a working weekend in Derby and wanted to find accomodation which included dinner as I would not be returning to the hotel until 8pm and didn't fancy setting off alone at night to find a restaurant. As it was the school holidays, many hotels were fully booked and the Internationsal was one of four which could still offer accomodation. I must admit, it would not have been my first choice but when I checked availability and was offered a weekend break with dinner and wine included for less than B&B at smaller hotels, I decided to give it a try. I found it easily, located not far from the ring road and parking was adequate (once the steep slope had been negotiated). The en-suite room was OK, satellite TV (Sky Sport 1,2 and3-very unusual!) iron and ironing board and a lovely cooling fan. Decor could have been better but there again this is a city hotel not a newly built "chain" hotel on the outskirts. Restaurant was bright and well set out, the meals were really superb both in choice and quality, served by friendly and courteous staff. There was even a disco in the basement for those with a penchant for dancing. I could not fault this hotel for value for money nor for service.
