Great little location - all you need...

Great little location - all you need and great hotel. This is a short drive from the airport - around 30mins (take the tunnel through the mountain and pay the toll - takes ages to go up round the mountain - save this for once you are settled in the hotel!).
There is no parking directly at the hotel as it is on the road and the gardens and pools are at the back on the hill, but no problem to park in the main car park and walk 3-5 mins along the road.
Reception is always very helpful, as are all staff and very child friendly.
Our room certainly was furnished to a high standard, with comfortable bed, TV and DVD player (DVD's can be borrowed from reception). Toiletries are supplied in the bathroom, so no need to pack that lot.
Room service was excellent, although a little pricey for drinks, so we popped along to the shop for a bottle of wine and nibbles and was worth it to sit out in the evening on the balcony and relax. Great views from the front rooms over the bay.
Breakfast is served in a 1st floor airy bright room, with a huge choice of continental options; there are of course a few hot options (sausages, eggs, mushrooms, and tomatoes. You can even squeeze your own fruit juices - grapefruit, orange, lime, and lemons all available beside the juicers.
The beach is a little disappointing as small stones and gritty, but there are sun loungers and towels available for hotel guests and a limited bar service.
Pools are excellent and seemed very clean- quiet pool up top for adults only and a pool on the lower level for all - this has a small shallow part sectioned off and the main part slopes from shallow to over 2metres. Snacks and drinks are available from midday till around 8pm, so no need to move.
The view is also wonderful from the pool as you are high up behind the hotel - this means there are steps up the terraces, but there is a lift inside the hotel to take you most of the way.
Spa treatments were done very professionally and good value, possible to have them outside also and in pairs!
If you can drag yourself away - the small town has everything you need including souvenirs and clothes - plenty bars and restaurants - but hard to beat the hotel food.
Overall a fantastic break - with the highlight being dinner in the restaurant each night!

This hotel has been totally renovated...

This hotel has been totally renovated in 2005 so you should ignore any reviews before then.
The seafront road has just been "pedestrianised" so only the little trams, mopeds, and bikes are allowed along with taxis and residents cars.
I just spent a week on my own and booked again for September while I was there. The perfect Hotel and place to unwind. In fact, I have never "unwound" so quickly!
You never get tired of the tranquil view from your terrace/balcony or from the pool area and terraces above it.
Access to this area is gained from the fifth floor and you cross over a bridge - amazing. Bistro serves beautiful food at night.
I am not a breakfast person but the outside breakfast tables were such a lovely place with that view again, that I really enjoyed it. It is served from 8-11 so late risers do not miss out.
Staff excellent all round in every department.
Would agree with previous comments about the non sea view rooms.
There are many many restaurants for all price ranges to choose from within walking distance, and I would say that the upgrading of this hotel will have an effect on the whole port.

We found this hotel by chance,...

We found this hotel by chance, booking the day before after contacting the sister hotel in Palma.
We could not have been more lucky. The hotel is very modern, full of trendy things like colourful artwork and weird & wonderful light fittings but it works. It overlooks a wonderful bay with enough beach space and restaurants to keep you occupied for about a week, allowing for the odd excursion by tram to the nearby town of Soller.
Whilst there I used all the facilities, the masseur, the pool, both restaurants and the bar and found all staff to speak good English and to provide a personal service. The place isn't dominated by the English, which is nice, and has a good mix of north Europeans but mainly Swedish.
We would definitely go back, but you must get a sea view room as the rooms at the rear face onto a small courtyard overshadowed by a rocky incline as the hotel sits on the side of a very steep hill (you don't need to climb it).

My friend and I were unlucky enough...

My friend and I were unlucky enough to end up in Magaluf on an allocation on arrival holiday (we're in our late 20's so not too awful!). So we hired a car for a few days and ended up in Port Soller. Esplendido was the first hotel we walked into to see if they had any rooms and fell in love with it straight away!
It is so clean, bright and beautiful. The staff can't do enough to help. The rooms are amazing value for the price. You get a TV with DVD player and surround sound speakers in the room. At reception they have a selection of CDs and DVDs you can borrow, free of charge - not that you'll spend much time there as the area is so lovely. Breakfast was included and although a buffet, really tasty and seemed healthy too.
I've paid more to stay at a Travelodge before, and this is so much more luxurious. Bath robes, air con, safe box. I loved it and would definitely go back either with boyfriend, or for a relaxing girls weekend break. Also will recommend to all my friends and family!

Hotel Esplendido is a very basic...

Hotel Esplendido is a very basic hotel but what a view! The view makes up for any shortcomings the hotel might have.
However, we have stayed there twice, and have every intention of going again.
The rooms are spacious, clean, comfortable, but rather basic. However, make sure you pay the small supplement for a sea view. The views are spectacular. Also, as there is a cliff face at the back of the hotel, the back rooms will have no view at all, and they seemed to be very dark.
The pool is at the top of the grounds at the back, very steeply stepped and terraced, so no good for disabled.
Porto Soller is in effect a horse shoe bay, and this hotel is bang in the middle, so the views of the sunset from the bedroom balcony, or the pool, are just out of this world.
Also, the position of the hotel can't be beaten, exactly halfway on the coast road round Porto Soller.
One tip is to book the evening meal. It is a bog standard salad buffet but plenty of it - no luxuries here! However, I think it was about £4 a head if booked in advance, so no hardship if you prefer to eat out.
We really love Porto Soller, unspoilt, the little tram running past the hotel, the access into the mountains, no "rowdies", nice walking area, our favour place in Majorca. The little tram takes you from Porto Soller, through the orange/lemon orchards to Soller, the inland "town", where there's a lovely Spanish square where you can sit and enjoy a drink under the shade of the trees. Bliss!!.
There are no luxury hotels in Porto Soller, and this really is a very standard hotel with no particular amenities (pool is very nice though), but strangely, having stayed at far superior hotels all over the the world, we have never enjoyed a holiday as much as here.
Just don't go expecting 5* standard and service. You will get what you pay for, plus spectacular views and atmosphere.
Not really suitable for chidren/teenagers. Perfect for couples age 35+ wanting a relaxing, scenic holiday.
