Fieldhead Hotel Reviews
May 2008, Mr A P Martin
Having stayed in many hotels both in the UK and around the world, I can honestly say this is the worst I've ever experienced. Surly, rude management who treat the guests as if they are an inconvenience. Poorly cooked, almost inedible food. Dirty, old fashioned gloomy rooms.... more

Walls VERY thin, Dont expect a good nights sleep
from Labbymoo
We Booked this hotel for 2 reasons, firstly it was pet friendly and secondly for its location , which made it easy for the rest of our family to meet up with us the following day for Sunday lunch. On arrival we found the receptionist not there and neither was she there when we tried to contact her on another issue later on. Our room was at the end of a corridor next to the fire escape in case we wanted to let our pets out in the night. The room was mediocre , the bathroom was old and smelled musty, plenty of hairs from previous users/pets. After an expensive ( but not good quality meal) we retired to our room. I was awoken early in the night by someone in the next room snoring, which went on all night . The walls are too thin and you can hear everything that goes on in the next room , toilet flush , everything.!! Avoid this hotel its not good value , the walls are too thin and its NOT pet friendly.

Great week end break
from sm1234
We have just returned form a great week end at the Fieldhead...We were treated likes royaltiy! Toni on the reception was a superstar ...Nothing was to much trouble..Thanks Toni Sean...give that girl a rise! The food was exellent value for money and the brekfast was a feast. We were lucky enough to have witnessed the Blues Brothers Tribute Band...hey don't knock it I sang with them...and I wasn't drunk The rooms are very nice...6 foot beds with Quilts...which are very comfortable, lovely fluffy towels and good complimentery bath products. All in all we will be returning to the Fieldhead in Leicester... so see you all soon. Regards Ann and Tom Kennedy
What we wanted
from PandG-Norfolk
The Fieldhead was 'what we wanted'. A well placed hotel, far enough away from the motorway, to break a journey from Anglesey to Norfolk. We got a friendly welcome, nice sized room, though wished we'd booked a twin or a king-size bed. Decor and bathroom all nice, fresh and clean. Good breakfast, though the staff either were a bit hung over, or just exhausted! The little lassie serving us appeared to be on her own. Pub grub - nothing special, but what we had was reasonably priced. We ate out the second night of our stay. There was a function but we weren't disturbed - perhaps our room was well placed? All in all would recommend.
Food is terrible, staff rude
from Emma7272
This hotel is comfortable, although it can be quite noisey if you leave your window open. The breakfast is great, but the evening meals are of a very low standard. If you are traveling in a group (there were 13 of us) they have a complete panic and ask you not to eat at the same time!! On the second night of our stay we went and found a pub restaurant sown the road which served fantastic food for the same price and 13 people were not a problem at short notice. (whereas this hotel had had our booking for months!!) This is the second time I have stayed here and the second time I have not been well at all after eating here! The reception staff and staff in general are quite rude and unprofessional. I got woken up by the cleaners having a really loud converstation at about 6am. I would not choose to stay here again.
Dire

Listen to the reviews and avoid this hole. No-one came to reception for 10 minutes when I tried to check in even though they could see I was waiting, when they did I wish they hadn't bothered, rude, aloof, gave me the key to my room and I entered to found it hadn't been serviced from the previous guests, went back to reception to be told "well we did let you check in early" !!! room horrible, dirty and smelly, mildew in shower, food crap, service in restaurant worse, full of teenage staff with teenage attitude. On the plus side the matress was quite good.
Pet friendly - Not !

Why oh why did I not check out the reviews before booking this ???? I always check trip advisor when booking hotels abroad and for some strange reason didn't check out the reviews for this hotel. We paid £95 for a double room plus an extra £5 for our pet dog. When we arrived we were told they needed to change our room to the "dog friendly" one as central reservations hadn't informed them we were taking our pooch. We were given room 9 a twin bedded room, when we told the receptionist we wanted a double she told us to push the beds together (we tried but they were at different heights !) Next we found we couldn't take the dog into the bar/restaurant or leave him unattended in the room. The hotel reception kept blaming central reservations for not giving us this info. We were so annoyed with the quality of the room and lack of information when we booked that we just checked out and drove back home. Either a hotel is pet friendly or its not. I appreciate some people don't want to stay in a room where a dog has stayed, I personally don't want to stay in a smoking room. However I don't appreciate being charged to take my dog - because of the additional cleaning - only to be given an inferior room with tatty furniture and a mouldy shower. If a hotel accepts dogs then they should set aside a doggy area in the bar or allow guests to leave dogs unattended in rooms whilst their owners are in the bar.
Continue to avoid!

Checked in ok with double room (#26). Room spacious but bed hard and both my girlfriend and I had a bad nights sleep with back ache in the morining. Bathroom large but very tired looking, dirty and the smell reminded me of the home where my Grandmother once resided. Awful. Room walls paper thin and can hear everything that your neighbour is up to. Talking, tv, bathroom etc etc Food in the evening was ok but nothing to rave about, apart from the price. Had the Sea Bass as favourite. Totally killed the flavour with over the top saturation in olive oil and a pesto concoction. Breakfast in the morning was equally appalling. No table was ready and the service appalling. Kept having to ask for this, that and everything. Breakfast cold and saturated in fat. When asked for milk and butter for tea & toast, this was taken from another table and was partially used with floating bits in the milk. Duly left to pass onto the next unfortunate person no doubt. Blurb in welcome folder states that the premises had a £600,000 refit - not sure where that was spent then! Continue to avoid if you can.
Night Mare @ Field Head

Book through a another internet site and got a late deal. Booked a double room for one night. when we arrived we got checked in etc and got to the room which had changed from a double to a twin! We went back to question this they got all our paper work out and yes we had booked a double then they looked on the computer system which they then said they had no doubles left. We asked if they could do anything and they said not really it was busy and we booked on another site so what did we expect (to me this was what we had booked). But the manger would speak to some one else in the morning to compensate this. Then we got to the bar - The guy behind the bar said sorry we aren't serving any more even though we had just watched him serve someone else. This was at 11pm we said we were residents but he said that didn't matter he couldn't serve any more. So we went back to the manager who we had just seen and as we were complaning we had missed time. she said this is no problem and took us back to the bar where the same guy was serving another person (so much for not serving) and she told him to serve us. 7.00am doors slaming nicely woke us up. Staff were stating to clean and we were in the next room to them. Then a nice cold full english breakfast. Then to check out and se if they had found any way to compensate, the girls on reception who thought she was above all, reply she can do anything when we asked for the manger. Top quilty managment when the manger cant tell you herself. Definatley would not stay there again and would not reccomed it to anyone else. Avoid under all costs.
Unexpectedly excellent

Wow! I was a bit nervous about what the Fieldhead would be like due to the exceptional rate I got the room for as a late deal, but it was charming. Newly refurbished, lovely, cosy room with an iron and board, big TV with DVD player (a few titles can be borrowed from reception), kettle and hairdryer. The staff were very friendly and as we left on a Sunday, they were helpfully relaxed about check-out times. There was a little traffic noise from the adjacent A50, but it wasn't too bad. The walls between rooms were a bit thin. Conversely, we didn't hear any noise from the bar at all, even though there was live music one night. The bar/restaurant has a lovely courtyard for alfresco dining and the barman spontaneously gave us a third off a bottle of wine.

I had the misfortune to stay in this awful hotel for a weekend. My first impression on walking in was that it feels claustrophobic and smells musty. Our room was cramped and extremely outdated. There was barely room to move around in it. They have a bit of a cheek to call... more
