Corus Hotel

I stayed at this hotel with work, for a business seminar in April 09. My initial thoughts upon arrival , were that the hotel was too close to the local high Street (Blaby) for my liking. I generally prefer somewhere off the beaten track when I'm staying away on business & Westfield House is only 2 minutes walk maximum, from the main shopping area in Blaby. Having read the reviews on tripadvisor I decided on this hotel. I can only imagine that all those who wrote positive reviews stayed in the newer section of the hotel and had little dealings with the staff. Our room was very tired and outdated, the hairdryer was broken and there were a few battered looing coffee sachets thrown under the TV for our tea/coffee making facilities. Was stuck in a blizzard and after a very long day, I got my partner to find me a hotel. Laterooms quoted £55.00 for a single but she booked it direct for the same price. The room I had was modern, very spacious and warm and very clean - I was in the newer extension (the older part and the communal areas seem a little tired). The best thing about the booking was that they gave me a double room with a large king size bed. I arrived too late to eat there and didn't have breakfast.. so can't comment on the food. I stayed for one night on business in December. Booking in was speedy enough, and the staff were pleasant. I only had a single room, which was tiny, and quite chilly. It had all the usual facilities, and the bed was comfortable. There is a leisure facility on site, and this means that the hotel car park is busy. Reception overlooks the swimming pool. The hotel was easy to find with plenty of parking. On arrival, the staff were very friendly and welcoming, and all staff we came into contact with over the course of our stay were the same. They were aways available to help and were prompt in providing information and additional items. Our room was a twin room and was a good size. The beds were very comfortable and both the room and bathrom were clean. The temperature of the room was easy to change as the radiator heated the roo very quickly. I booked an executive room for a business trip, and found it to be very comfortable. A large room with gown and slippers and some chocolates as a welcome. Lighting in the room could be improved - I had difficulty doing my work in the evening/early morning as the lighting was so dim. Very comfortable bed and the bathroom was well proportioned - a disappointing shower unfortunately. Also nice to receive a free newspaper. Helpful and friendly staff throughout our stay. Stayed for one night in April 2008, overall very pleased with experience. Pool and jacuzzi were very nice, steam room was out of order but sauna seemed very popular. We ate at the hotel and the 3 course evening meal was very nice - the food was of a good standard and nicely presented. Breakfast was good and plentiful. Heating in rooms seems a bit hit and miss, my room was hot - the radiator seemed to be on full and there was a cooling fan in the room so I just opened the window wide and had the fan on. Not knowing Leicester we looked at the reviews and decided to stay for two nights at the Westfield as the reviews were generally good and it was close to the Leicester Records office at Wigton. The room was clean and comfortable, the bathroom was ok , evening meal and breakfast were both good and there was ample parking and a pool. A big plus point was the staff. Booked this hotel last minute at £50 for a family room. We have stayed at the Hilton as a family before and this stay was much better quality. Obviously recently refurbished the bed was hugely comfortable, the room clean, light, bathroom tiled top to bottom. ALL staff were really friendly and nothing was too much trouble (and we tested this to the full as you do when your a family asking receptionists to order pizza's in etc) The pool was fantastic, although not much of a shallow end for the children to enjoy all other facilities great.... more
