Pure Magic!

The Al Husn at Shangri-La’s Barr Al Jissah resort in Muscat, Oman was always fabulous – luxurious accommodation in a stunning setting, located on the beach against breath-taking cliffs.
But until now, service was a problem. This is no longer the case – it seems as if the new General Manager, Mr Shrestha, and his team have waved a magic wand and injected soul into the place.
When management and every member of staff, whether at the resort’s extensive range of restaurants, at the dream-world Chi Spa or on the beach, consistently anticipate guests’ every need and deliver a truly memorable experience, then you have the perfect blend for a perfect holiday.
We will never forget the very special birthday breakfast they arranged for us - quite simply the best breakfast ever!

I stayed at the 6 star hotel of the Shangri-la Resort called Al Husn which sits on a cliff top over looking the other two hotels (Al Waha and Al bander).
The Al-Husn itself is a very impressive Building. The hotel architecture is very symetrical and everything complimenting one another. I did enjoy just walking around the grounds and the courtyards inbetween buildings admiring shapes and symetry. The infinity pool was stunning.
I had deluxe suite which was luxurious and had a balcony with a beautiful sea view.
Plenty of restaurants to choose from within the resort. e.g Seafood, south american style grilled meats. Food whilst good was not spectacular. Where this hotel shines is in it's service of its guests. Like the previous person wrote nothing is to difficult for them. They go that extra mile to ensure your stay is enjoyable.

Hired a car to sea the local area. Apart from a few souks(markets) not much to see or do outside of the resort.
I mustn't forget to mention the spa. I had wonderfly relaxing time there. Again It's something they specialise in.
All in all thumbs up

This hotel is 3 hotels in one. The Al-Waha is mainly for families. Al Bandar is a middle of the road and centre of the resort. Al Jissah is the deluxe hotel where children are banned.
We stayed in Al Bandar which was certainly the best choice. Because it was in the centre of the resort and all of the amenities it meant you did not have to walk for miles each time you go out.
The lazy river is a great addition which makes it different to all other hotels. I am 34 and I enjoyed it as much as the children, as did other adults, you could spend all day floating along.
The best bar was the piano bar which had live music every night. You request a track and she will try to play anything. You get served fantastic canapés or chocolate dipped strawberries with your drinks!
We ventured up to Al Jissah one evening and found we were the only two people in the bar. We even shocked the bar tender when we walked in.
It is used by A-List celebs apparently but I presume they keep to their rooms.
Breakfast had a great selection every day.
All of the restaurants in all 3 areas were really great. Our favourite was the fish restaurant on the beach but the Moroccan was a close second.
The only negative comment I could find to make is the room cleaning service was not done every day. The room staff were hard to find and seemed to go up and down the corridor only once, so if they called for you at an inconvenient time, they would not come back again later.
This in itself is not a major problem but for a hotel of this standard you would expect it to be done. They also left bottled water for you to drink, so if you missed your visit, you would also not have any water to drink.
Be warned the resort is at least 15 mins in a car away from any other civilisation.

Recently opened hotel. Absolutely wonderful. Traveled there with my husband and 10 year old son. Accommodation was of a very high standard. Staff were excellent, friendly and more than willing to help. Resort is very clean and well looked after and facilities are good. Variety of restaurants to choose from. Breakfast is always in the buffet restaurant and caters for all tastes, British, continental and Arabic.
Pools were at a lovely temperature and pools and beach all patrolled by lifeguards. Bottled water distributed free of charge around the pool areas. I had expected alcohol to be quite expensive but was surprised that it was no more than I'd pay in a pub at home!
Lazy river connects this hotel and the Al Waha. Lovely way to spend a lazy day!
Can't rate this hotel highly enough. We will be returning next summer.

Having lived in Oman some twenty-five...

Mar 2006, Mrs G A Rose

Having lived in Oman some twenty-five years ago for seven years this was going to be an interesting return!
This resort has been built on a glorious bay and a new road built through the rocky hills to get there. There are three hotels in all and only two were open whilst we were there. Excellent rooms (brand new of course as the hotel only opened in Jan. 06) Sheets and towels changed everyday if required and all rooms overlooked the pool and/or sea. We stayed at the Al Waha Hotel. Good pool area and a lazy river which took you to the Al Bandar hotel or in a circle back to the Al Waha - good fun. Excellent clean beach and warm sea. Temperatures in January in low eighties which will rise to well over one hundred degrees in the summer.
There was a bit of a sun bed crisis whilst we were there in that there was initially a lack of them! Had to resort to the pre-breakfast 'towel on the bed' if you wanted a good spot on the beach or around the pool. Later in the week more beds appeared, but, not enough sunshades! They will really need to sort this out or there will be a lot of guests suffering from sunstroke! This shouldn't really happen - Shangri La aren't exactly newcomers in the holiday resort game! However, I am sure that this will very quickly be addressed.
The Spa was not open and neither was a sea food restaurant which will be sited between the Al Waha and Al Bandar. There are also various other things planned such as a 'village' and more shops and restaurants.
I would think that this site will not be fully complete for a while yet.
However, having said that there is nothing going on that intrudes on the two hotels at present.
The staff are always smiling and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Copious water bottles are handed out free of charge both around the pool, in the rooms and on the beach which will certainly be very welcome during the summer months especially!
The main restaurant at the Al Waha is very good. Excellent breakfast (you could stock up for the day!) and there is a coffee shop and a bar where you can obtain snack type meals. Not wonderful, but OK. Drinks are, of course, fairly expensive.
Even though the hotel is new the gardens look quite mature and it is lovely to stroll along the beach front to the next hotel during the evening. There isn't a lot going on in the hotel during the evening, but this will probably change in due course. There is nowhere to walk to from the hotel resort itself but a shuttle bus is available for shopping into Muscat and there are of course local taxis.
The staff at the Al Bandar are happy to arrange excursions to the Souk, Muscat itself and various other locations through a local company.
Oman had changed drastically since I lived there when it really was an adventure. But it is still a lovely country and the people are very friendly and helpful. It has places to visit which are long gone in Dubai. Best go soon.
