Cheap nasty beds and poor furnishings in the rooms, tired old bathroom, and tatty old rubber bath mat. Stale bread rolls for breakfast etc etc, miserable receptionist. Wouldn't recommend to anyone. Only good thing about the place is its location - apart from that it has... more

wedding party
from deliaNotts
I am writing because I had my wedding at the Clumber Hotel in October and it was my wedding party that had all of the problems with breakfast the next day. I have to say straight away though that the wedding itself was fantastic. It was a perfect day, the venue beautiful, the food amazing and the staff fantastic. I have no complaints at all about that and would recoomend anybody to hold their wedding there. The next morning however was extremely embarrasing for me. I had approx 10 rooms booked with guest party's and was horrified with the service at breakfast. When we came down we were told we couldn't go through for food because they had run out and that was about as much information as we were given. After about 40 minutes we eventually got some breakfast, but not the full choice and we had to chase waiters down for a cup of tea. Some of my guests didn't get any breakfast at all. I was really upset about it, as they had all paid a lot of money for their rooms to come to my wedding. Breakfast seems to be a recurring issue, so perhaps the management needs to sort it out before they add any more rooms to the equation.
Disappointing
from Interest_free
We booked a room as we had been invited to a wedding in the hotel. The actual wedding day was wonderful, the service, wedding meal and evening buffet were very good and the attention to detail was greatly appreciated by family and friends. Our disappointment was with the room we had booked. It was cold so we tried turning on the radiators in the bathroom and bedroom but to no avail. We read the booklet on the desk and it told us to turn up the temp gauge on the radiator as the heating is set on a timer...it still didn't work. Eventually went to reception and told staff on duty the room was cold and had no heating upon which she turned round and pressed a switch and hey presto our heat came on.....although it never came on in the bathroom. We arrived for breakfast at 9.15 and had to wait until 9.30 to be seated where we were told to help ourselves to the buffet. We would have loved to have done that but there was no food left! The cereal and pastries hadn't been replenished, there was only 1 variety size box of cornflakes and 3 All Bran. We stood waiting for at least 10mins for the cooked food to be replenished but nothing arrived. Eventually as so many people were complaining, the Manager arrived but did little to reassure his customers that we would be served our breakfast. To cut a very long story short, we didn't get our breakfast. We got a small discount when we paid and left the hotel as soon as we could because we were hungry! It was such a shame as the previous day had been everything a wedding should be.
Cold food order of the day
from Pipernotts
My wife and I visited the Clumber Park Hotel 4th Oct 2007 for a meal in the Limetree restaurant for our wedding anniversary and my wife's birthday. We had read local newspaper report's and the hotels website regarding new owners and refurbishment etc. Our first impression in the restaurant was that it was in need of refurbishment with paint flaking from the window frames this part has quite obviously not yet been altered. The Hotel is in a great location and has fantastic potential. The staff were pleasant, polite and attentive in fact so attentive they were asking how the food was before we actually managed to eat any. When our main course was served the vegetables were almost cold as was my wife's fish dish. The manager offered to have the meal cooked again after agreeing it was sub standard i.e cold food but by then we decided enough was enough and left. We were very disappointed with the food and comments by the manager whose apology did not seem sincere. He even said that there had been no other complaints of a similar nature at the hotel. Having since read the last few reviews on this site there have been other dissatisfied customers some who have complained of poor quality cold food. The hotels owners need to get a grip with the problems very quickly or the reputation will not be the one they talk of striving for. Would not recommed this restaurant to our friends.
Disappointed
from freakster
We have stayed here several times before and been extremely satisfied in the past. The hotel is being refurbished and although it has lost some of the old character particularly in the reception/lounge area, the new bedrooms are fresher and are decently equipped. Although our arrival was greeted with a lack of enthusiasm, our main problems were the breakfasts. The menu stated that all food was cooked to order but this certainly was not the case. Most of the food was cold and definitely not fresh. The Sunday morning was a buffet affair. It did not seem that anyone was in charge of ensuring all the food was being replenished and we were kept waiting a long time. We love the location of the hotel and being able to walk across the road into beautiful Clumber Park, so we will probably continue to come here , but someone needs to take control , otherwise the hotel's reputation could go down the pan. As it is, the service does not warrant the prices charged.
Good presentation, shame about the service
from EdwardNorthampton
The hotel is undergoing refurbishment. We stayed in a newly decorated room that was in good condition, clean and tidy. We had invited guests to a family birthday party. The 'al a carte' restaurant ran out of food and the attitude of the staff left a lot to be desired. The Sunday morning breakfast was a disaster with numerous guests unable to have breakfast due to the shortage of food. I did complain to a sympathetic manager who promised to contact me before we left. I am still waiting to hear! This criticism does not extend to the bar staff who we found to be pleasant and helpful.
Will be good when renovation is complete if staff levels improved
from SussexLola
This hotel looks lovely from the outside and is set amongst beautiful scenery. The hotel is being renovated and we were unfortunate enough to get one of the old rooms. It was very dark, a bit shabby and there was a broken tile hanging off in the bathroom. We had requested a room for four but got one double bed and one single. The room also smelt a bit damp. Breakfast was appalling. I waited forty minutes for a cup of tea! Hash browns were simply sliced potatoes and my sausage looked half raw. I then waited a further twenty minutes for some toast (thinking I'd eat it with my egg) and that was just like warm bread. There simply wasn't enough staff - two members serving the whole restaurant. Apart from that, it's reasonably pleasant, just ask for a newly decorated room and make yourself a cup of tea in the room!
Room for improvement
from HughJarres
The hotel is gradually being upgraded. We therefore specified a refurbished room. It was at the back and reasonably quiet and tastefully redecorated in gentle colours, but not to very exacting standards (some poor workmanship). It had an LCD TV with Freeview and DVD player. Not huge but enough space to move around. However, the bed was bouncy and uncomfortable, and our room had not been properly cleaned (fluff on floor, toothpaste deposits in tumblers). Wifi available but not complimentary. The restaurant looks smart but is rather expensive. However, there's decent pub food in the bar. Staff were friendly and helpful, but the hotel has a way to go.

Not without charm
from Susie78
Stumbled upon Clumber Park late one evening whilst touring through the UK. Charming atmosphere in a very pleasant spot. Found the room to be of good size but a little too warm (late May) - we found most hotels in the UK to be hot and stuffy at night. Not bad dinner in the bar and lovely breakfast in the morning. The only complaint - as with all hotels in the UK - is the yucky longlife milk supplied for tea/coffee in the room.
nightmare

Staying with a wedding party, our room was very sjall, extremely hot. No toilet roll, toilets flooded. Breakfast was powdered scrambled egg. No cutlery clean or glasses for juice available. One waiter and all people dissatisfied with the service.

Stopped off for lunch. Without doubt the worst ever. A pile of salad leaves drowned in an oily dressing with half a dozen pieces of feta cheese £8. A gristly, fatty burger, over salted and over cooked in a stale roll with luke warm chips and no cheese as listed, £8. Absolutely appalling.
