I was a little aprehensive about ataying there after reading some bad reviews, however we found the hotel & room perfect for our 2 night stay. It had everthing we needed, space, clean, hot water & helpful friendly staff. One receptionist went out of his way to find some... more

I enjoyed a family break here food hot ,rooms were clean. But on morning we were leaving staff at breakfast could only say the box for staff tips are over there and is a problem with room cards they have to be fixed daily. There is a lot of late night noise from pubs across the road.

The Britannia Hotel is ideally located if you are on a few days break to enjoy the shopping and nightlife in Nottingham as it is only a two minute walk from the Market Square which you can catch trams and buses to most destinations in the city. The rooms were clean and... more

Hotel is kept very clean and rooms adequate but on the small side. Air conditioning units are noisy and make a noise all night as do the air vents in the bathroom, not good if you are a light sleeper. Hotel staff very unfriendly and unhelpful. Waited 6 hours after... more

Not as bad as previos reviews!
We spent one night here (Sat 19th Jan) as part of a weekend break with National holidays. I was really worried having read previous reviews on this website, however my worries were unfounded. We checked in smoothly at 2.0pm and were allocated room 413. This faced out over the front of the front of the hotel facing the Irish bar with the main dual carriageway just to the left. The room had obviously been refurbished recently as it l.was ike the one pictured on the website. Unfortunately the quality of the finish was poor and I feel that the rooms will soon start to look shabby, but this one is fine at the moment. The room was too warm and we opened the window which obviously let in the noise. Before we went to bed we closed the wooden shutters and this eradicated the problem.. The bed was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was also quite new and toiletries are supplied along with plenty of clean towels. The bonus for us was the mini fridge. It chilled my cava quite nicely! We had dinner and breakfast as part of our package and both meals were perfectly fine. My choice for dinner was soup, chicken breast in tarragon sauce with vegetables and fresh fruit salad. My husband had salad, steak and kidney pudding with veg and gateaux. Other choices were salmon, beef and there were two vegetarian options. Breakfast was also good with plenty of choice including cereals. fresh fruit, yogurt, full English, toast, tea and coffee. Although it's not 'hote cuisine' all the food was perfectly acceptable and everyone we spoke to seemed to have enjoyed their meals. I needed to get some writing paper from reception and it was given to me without any problem. This was my only contact with them other than check in/check out but they were friendly and efficient. For a budget hotel in the city centre I found this a very good all round hotel. I wouldn't want to spend more than two or three days here but for a short break it fit the bill perfectly.
worst hotel ever
i Stayed at this hotel with my partner and child and it was a disaster as the room was nothing like the picture. the room was too hot with no air cond working, the carpet was dirty and smelly and the bedsheets and towels were dirty, As to sleep, the bed was unfortortable and the tv had no satellite working. the staff at reception was roud and unhelpful and the breakfast was terrible too so we decide to leave the next day! please avoid this hotel and don't be scared to pay a little bit extra for some confort!!! be aware that there is no parking and we had to pay £15 for overnight stay in the carpark over the road.....
Stay here only if you have to
Booked here for three nights as it was actually cheaper than Travel Inn/Travelodge and was centrally postioned. However the cheap rate should've been a clue. First night the heating didn't work, it's cold in Nottingham this time of year, neither did the heated towel rail; towels were dirty and generally felt 'dowdy'. Most of the channels on the TV didn't work and although wi-fi was free the signal was patchy at best. I stayed here when it was a Holiday Inn and it was much, much better then. Also, be aware that although you get a discounted rate in the adjacent NCP it is still expensive to park.
Grubby little 70s B&B!
A friend and I booked this place for a night out in Nottingham. As a place to crash, it is fine and alcohol assisted sleep is possible. The real issue though is cleanliness. The bathroom "lino" was coming up, carpets filthy, room musty and pokey. I was waiting for Rigsby to show up... The hotel enjoys wonderful views of the NCP car park next door and is actually joined at the hip to this concrete eyesore. Still, never mind. Please take my advice, find somewhere else.
Nothing like the website portrays
If you just need somewhere to sleep in a good location for sightseeing, then I guess its ok. But, if you're expecting to see what their website shows you will be verrry disappointed. We had 2 rooms and neither room looked anything like the photos on their website. The beds didnt even have a bedspread, they were covered with the blanket only. Not pretty, and looks cheap. The room was a good size though. The bathroom was really shabby with lino on the floor, not tiles, and the lino was lifting badly around the edges, and tattered as well. Wish I'd taken photos as even the photos posted here by other people who've stayed in the Britannia look pretty good compared to the rooms we had!! If you're lucky enough to get one of the rooms they picture on their website you should be ok, but I'd make sure I asked for a redecorated room when I booked. The staff were a bit disinterested, but there weren't any real problems as far as service goes. The location was the best thing about this hotel as far as we were concerned.
Hated the place
NOTHING LIKE ITS WEBSITE. We booked three rooms for one night only on a company budget. On entering the hotel the lobby was freezing the poor staff frozen behind the check in desk. We were checked in and given our keys no directions were given to our rooms. On entering our room found a small poky room with two single beds in need of a massive upgrade. Carpet all stained, blood up the curtains, damaged floor in the bathroom dripping tap leak under the sink and a toilet with a bell pull type flush that needed pulling several times. Need I go on.This is the first hotel I have stayed in that does not have any information on the surroundings NOT even about the hotel. One good thing about the hotel was the location
The good the bad and the ugly!!
Booked this site via lastminute.com for the first weekend in Nottingham, there must have been plenty of events going on in Nottingham on that particular weekend as prices everywhere were relatively expensive, paying 60 pounds for a double room. Upon arrival mid afternoon on a saturday, swiftly checked in with good attentive service, unfortunately, the same could not be said for the room, which had dirt on the walls, what can only be discribed as a large fluffball on the floor in the corner of the room, bloodstains on the walls, and lots of hairs in the bath (believe me, as a balding 38 year old, they weren't my hair!!)Anyway, one call to reception, and they sent me to a new room, which happened to be a suite on the 9th floor, which happened to be 4 times the size of my other room, with far better views over the city than the other room, far better bathroom, which more than made up for the shambles of the front room I got lucky I guess...... Location...literally 2 minutes to the main square (although having to cross the ever busy Maid Marion Way could prove a turn off for others although there is a pedestrian crossing right outside the hotel) The hotel was undergoing some renovations at the time, it did feel a little dated, that's why i'm only committing to 3 star review here
Filthy hotel - beware !
I stayed at this property over a convention weekend in September. My room was filthy – various stains on the carpet, cigarette burns in the curtains, dust under the furniture and on most of the surfaces, fungus in both the bedroom and the bathroom. It looked like it had not been cleaned in weeks. Even during my 3-night stay, the housekeeping was very poor. The food in the hotel was terrible. The only good thing I can say about this hotel is that it is in a great location.
mostly harmless
Had a 9th floor room for 3 nights (35 pounds a night, via hotel website) when in Nottingham on business. For that price, and with a view out over the city - including the "castle", the spot where the English civil war began - I can't complain. No air conditioning made the room a little stuffy (even in an English summer) and the wifi was on the blink, but the location and price can't be beat. Request a room on a high floor and the noise shouldn't bother you.
