Nice Hotel with helpful staff
8 / 10
Sep 2011, Phil & Deb

I was a little aprehensive about ataying there after reading some bad reviews, however we found the hotel & room perfect for our 2 night stay. It had everthing we needed, space, clean, hot water & helpful friendly staff. One receptionist went out of his way to find some playing cards, they were about a foot high but none the less they were playing cards!! Thanks we had a great stay in the centre of Nottingham

I enjoyed a family break here food hot ,rooms were clean. But on morning we were leaving staff at breakfast could only say the box for staff tips are over there and is a problem with room cards they have to be fixed daily. There is a lot of late night noise from pubs across the road.

  • Advice: ask for room at back of hotel

Dirity, Odourous and Not safe
1 / 10
Apr 2011, BusinessLeisure

This hotel is not recommend. After a stay of 1 night in March 2011, we found the following issues:
- Dirty linen on bed and used tissues
- White walls in severe need for attention, filthy
- Broken toilet seat
- Dust window, tv stand
- Smelly corridors in hotel
- Minibars not filled
- Another guest has their room accessed by someone else with the same room keycard.
- Breakfast not of any quality
- dirty carpets in building, full of drunks

  • Advice: Do not use this hotel and pay a bit more to get better facilities and safer hotel

The Britannia Hotel is ideally located if you are on a few days break to enjoy the shopping and nightlife in Nottingham as it is only a two minute walk from the Market Square which you can catch trams and buses to most destinations in the city.
The rooms were clean and comfortable and although it is in the middle of the city the noise from traffic was minimal. We did not sample any of the restaurants but there are plenty places to eat only a few yards from the hotel.
The staff were polite and efficient and they can also provide smoking or non smoking rooms. Overall I would recommend this hotel and would be happy to stay there on our next trip to Nottingham.

Hotel is kept very clean and rooms...

Oct 2007, Ms P Hopkins

Hotel is kept very clean and rooms adequate but on the small side. Air conditioning units are noisy and make a noise all night as do the air vents in the bathroom, not good if you are a light sleeper.
Hotel staff very unfriendly and unhelpful. Waited 6 hours after requesting extra pillows, had to ask again and were then questioned why we needed them, even after explaining initially that our daughter had fractured her ankle that day and we needed to elevate the ankle.
Fire alarm went off twice in the night at 3.30am and again at 5.50am no explanation from staff in the morning. People in next room checking out at 3am.
Breakfast was ok although chiller cabinet was not on for the whole week of our stay and butter, yogurts etc. were warm.
All in all, ok for a 1 night stay but would not recommend staying any longer.

Was first allocated a room on the...

Oct 2005, Miss S Harper

Was first allocated a room on the seventh floor which was old fashioned shabby and noisy. Asked to move and was allocated another room on seventh floor - when I challenged reception that the rooms were old fashioned and nothing like the rooms advertised on net they suggested I could move to the fourth floor as only the first four have been refurbished.
Granted this room was modern but extremely cramped with no floor space at all and I could only fit three things in wardrobe. Asked reception for extra teabags and milk for my room which never arrived.
The bar is very dark and uninviting and both the bar and restaurant menu are extremely limited for choice. On second night I was told the restaurant was not open at all and I was forced to eat my meal from a couch and a low table- only to discover the restaurant was actually open - just empty - the lamb was totally raw and the starter cold. Key cards don’t work more than once in a row.
Staff need training on everything from computer systems to customer service and the whole hotel is worse than Fawltly Towers!!!!
