Hotel Krone is in the village of Kerns near Lake Lucerne. It is classed as 3*, the rooms are quite basic but most do have a balcony,we were on the back with wonderful views of the mountains! The bathroom was small and dark , with only a shower and no bath, 1 small travel size shower gel was the only complimentary toiletry. There are no tea making facilitys, so a travel kettle is a must, the tv had only 1 english channel. The beds and bedding are the worst we have experienced, the pillows were feather type and flattened as soon as you lay on them, the duvet also feather and much too hot, after a sleepless first night we were told there were no extra pillows to be had ,but that the beds could be raised at the top and this made things much better. The Underground is a bar below the hotel, access is gained through reception and down the same stairwell as we used to go up to our first floor room, it is open till 2am mon/thurs and 4AM frid/sat, needless to say as our room was near the stairs every night ,bar sunday when it was closed we were awoken to shouting and talking and general noise, wether these people were able to wander upstairs at their leisure We daren't even think about, but some nights I for one was quite scared as to what could happen!!
The food left a lot to be desired ,starter mostly lettuce, a couple of times soup, which we swear was hot water with an oxo cube dunked briefly in it! very few veg and funny combinations of things put together, breakfast was cornflakes or cornflakes!! jam and cold meat when this ran out we were told thats it there is no more ,the time was 8am till 9 and one day at 8.20 there was nothing but bread left for any latecomers. I suppose you get what you pay for and as it was a tour and we saw lots of interesting things and lots of excursions where included we did manage to have a good time, the company was good and we all had a good moan and a good laugh as well.
I hope we never have to stay at this hotel again!!!!!!!
