Very pleased
Myself and my boyfriend stayed here in February for Valentines, the first thing that struck us was the staff; they were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast is ample and is not the usual "dry croissant watery hot chocolate" continental affair that you can get in Mediterranean countries. The hill outside is very steep!!! However it's very clean, and exactly what you would expect.
A cheap deal with lots of promises
I stayed in this hotel with a friend of mine. It was April 2006 and we were in the last leg of our european exploration. This hotel has a pleasant location, over-looking a slope (but we were young and many a times we actually used taxi as it is very cheap in Lisbon) and quite close to Bairro Alto (Famous for its night long informal parties, musics and cheap food) We always walked up to Bairro Alto from this hotel, but you gotta be careful with the cross road near the hotel, there can be cars speeding towards Bairro Alto. We paid about... more
Stayed twice!
The rooms are small sea cruise cabin almost; however the staff friendly and helpful attitude sure makes up for it. The rooms were clean. The breakfast was more than I could possibly want. Must of the time we took the metro to Rota and walked down, on the occasions that we came from the Liberdade side, it wasn't as difficult to come up the street as we were prepared to face. We had my mother's green card stolen in the Lagos Hotel we stayed in, and had to return to Lisbon to arrange paper work for her at the American Embassy and stayed... more
Great value, and a great stay
Like all Ibis Hotels we stayed at on our journey to Spain & Portugal, the Ibis chain of hotels provided good, clean accommodations with helpful staff. We got a King bed, shower, TV with CNN or BBC (with video audio jacks in the front). Rooms are smaller than a North American standard, but normal for Europe. Staff were excellent and friendly, and like all Ibis employees, they all seem to speak excellent English. Don't expect the Ritz, but a good Motel 6 type level of furnishings. It's worth noting that soap, shampoo and towels (replaced... more
Good value
Good hotel in a good location. The hill outside is steep, but very short. The rooms are clean, with a proper size bathroom (unlike the "micro" bathrooms of the 2 other Ibis hotels I have stayed in). Although the wardrobe space is very small. The staff are very courteous. Overall good value for money, and I would stay there again.
Good value and location
Stayed here for 2 nights late December 2004. Very reasonably priced - 60 euros/night for a double room. Buffet breakfast (fairly limited range) was 5 euros/person extra. Clean, modern and reasonably spacious room like most Ibises. No hairdryer though. Good location - close to underground station. 15 min walk into central Lisbon (Praca Rossio) down very pleasant Avenida Liberdade. Hill mentioned by other reviewers is not too much of a problem unless wet (slippery cobblestones). Helpful and friendly English-speaking staff.
Good Location, Great Value
Stayed at the Ibis Liberdade late November, 2004. The hotel staff is helpful, most of the staff speaks English (although this is NOT true universally at the tourist sites - practice your charades if you don't know Portuguese. Don't make the mistake of speaking Spanish like I did - they don't like it). Typical Ibis room - small, with a bed, TV, shower, sink, and a little bit of space that functions as a desk - but then again you stay here because you want to see the sights not because you want to stay in your room. Good breakfast... more
A Great Value!
This hotel was clean, reasonably priced, and quite centrally located. The 24hour snack menu is also a plus and the staff were always courteous and helpful. All the downtown sights and shops were minutes away. We will definately stay there again - even with that steep hill!!!
The hill is brutal
I agree with everything the previous writer ("the hill is murder") said. Follow his advice on travel to/from the hotel. It is nice, clean, quiet, and on the small side in the public places- restaurant, lobby, elevators. The rooms are fine. I'd certainly stay there again.
Decent Place--but the hill is murder!
The relatively new Ibis Liberdade is a typical Ibis property. Smallish, but clean and modern rooms, double-paned windows that keep out the noise, thin towels, and few amenities, but a pretty comfortable bed. The service was friendly and the breakfast buffet pretty good for the money. One word of caution, the hotel sits near the top of a VERY steep hill and it's quite an uphill hike from the Avenida Metro stop. Take a cab there if you are dragging luggage. When returning to the hotel, I found it easier to get off at the Rato Metro stop... more
