brilliant
We had our wedding here on 8th september 2007. The staff at the hotel were first class and the food was brilliant. The staff couldnt have done anymore to help us, they went above and beyond anything we expected. I would certainly recommend this hotel for your wedding.
Would happily return
Nice enough hotel within a few minutes drive/ 10 minutes walk of Stone. Was ideal location for a relaxing weekend for young couple, good selection of restaurants and pubs in stone, a few with live music. Our room was a good size and the bathroom was well laid out, the decor was slightly worn though and could have done with a fresh coat of paint. Otherwise was very comfortable and quiet. Didnt eat in hotel restaurant as ate in Stone instead, didnt use leisure facilities as never got round to it! Was very happy to pay the laterooms price... more
Gloomy room
We had a twin room and a family room. The twin room was nice enough, but the family room was dark and dank. The staff did not seem to realise that if 2 adults and 2 children were in a room, it was necessary to have four towels. We also played hunt the tea tray and found it in a cupboard. The pool is tiny; if there are already two swimmers, best to go and do something else. The 'gym' is in the reception area of the pool, and using the treadmill will lead to a very close encounter with the receptionist. The food was fine, generous... more
First Class
Stayed for my friends wedding on the 8th and 9th June 2007, and have to say that the service was first class. Sure the rooms, etc, probably need a bit of a modern revamp but the staff were friendly and helpful and really made you feel welcome. The wedding meal as well was excellent (nice to see fresh veg and cooked properly to!!), and the venue has some beautiful gardens, ideal for the wedding photos. If the staff continue giving service like this, the hotel will thrive! Keep up the good work!!
The gloom & doomed hotel!
Receptionist needed winding up and getting some customer service training! Didnt talk to guests as scared of opening her mouth couldnt handle checkout, took us over 30 minutes get out. Zomby. We checked in just after 2pm and the corridors were FULL of dirty linen piled up everywhere, rubbish and mops. There were glasses left lying around the gardens. The staircases were dirty, looked like they hadnt seen a hoover in weeks. Your room will not be ready for 2pm for an important wedding. Why dont they make it 4pm checkin like everywhere else so... more
Very pleasant stay
Hi, Had a very enjoyable stay 9th/10th March.....very pleasant room, good size, restaurant very good value (delicious sea bass), and friendly, helpful staff Although the place was quiet, I would definitely return
Oh dear!
I attended a wedding at this hotel in October 2006. Firstly I ordered flowers from a local florist and had them delivered to the hotel. The hotel were asked to present them to the bride to be on the evening before the wedding at a wedding dinner for family and friends. Unfortunately - the hotel staff forgot to present them and the flowers were still sitting there the following day. On the wedding day they mixed up seating plans, lost name cards for tables and consequently two people, including myself had nowhere to sit! The... more
Restaurant - hmmm
I didn't stay in the hotel but ate here one evening. According to the locals this is one of the finest restaurants in the vicinity. The hotel is very nice inside, the staff were friendly and helpful, but the food did not meet the standard I would expect from this type of establishment. There were a group of 16 of us on business. My starter was pate, bought in I would guess, the lamb I had was fairly tasteless with a non-descript sauce and over and under-cooked veg, and the dessert (apple strudel) decent enough but again I suspect bought... more
OKay for the money...
Stayed here recently and was very pleased with the room rate; however, it really does need a refurbishment and the restaurant is probably the most soulless and uninspiring place I've ever eaten; the food was expensive and not very good. It looks rather like the other Swallow hotels have given this poor hotel all their old furniture. It was tagged as 'former country house' and looks very much like it used to be fabulous - perhaps when it first opened - but time has taken it's toll. Oh, and I didn't much care for hordes of kids... more
Fine Place
Fine building in a pretty setting near Stone, Stoke-on-Trent and other places important in the porcelain business.
