George Hotel

Our son Paul was married to Catherine on the 7th of August 2009 at the George Hotel. The Service from the staff was amazing. Everyone was very friendly and very helpful. The Civil Ceremony all went well. The food for the Wedding Breakfast was excellent as was the evening buffet. We did find however that the drinks were expensive. We stayed in this hotel for one night and it was one night too long. The room was shabby and in serious need of updating, the double bed looked like an over sized single and the staff didn't look very happy in their job. It let down the good reputation that many Best Western Hotels have throughout the country. Incredibly disappointing

Not our choice for accomodation as I was here for a wedding, so we were staying over as it was too far to travel to in one day. This is a four star hotel and ticks the four star rating, free wi-fi, it has a bar, a carvery restaurant, an iron in the room and a hairdryer but basically this is an old building which is in sore need of updating. The flooring will send you flying despite the signs! Not sure whether its a "northern thing" - for someone who is cold blooded I have never had such a hot stay in a hotel. Stopped here last october for a friends birthday. We were there for the murder mystery night which was really good. However the room was far to hot, there were six of us stopping in 3 rooms we all paid the same however the other two rooms were far bigger than the one I stopped in despite the fact that we paid the same. The food at the murder mystery night was not great. The breakfast was ok but had much better, Overall ok for what you pay!

Only stayed one night - but room even though at the front of the hotel was quiet. Had a "superior" room - had a reasonable sitting area however the TV at the bottom of the bed was in the way when you went to the loo in the dark! (better to put a flat screen on the wall out of the way!) Did not have dinner in the hotel but breakfast was OK (a fresh fruit salad - not just tinned fruit was good! - coffee as in most UK hotels weak as dishwater why cannot us Brits make a decent cup of coffee - it's not difficult!)

I have not stayed in a hotel like this for many years. The location was wonderful and the bedroom/bathroom was clean. If that is all you want from your £119.00 per night you will be very happy. ''welcome to the hotel' or a 'good morning' . 'did you enjoy your stay' all would have been nice but far to much to ask of the HAPPY staff. If you go there to relax as about functions for the dates you will be staying.They take over the hole hotel and the music and noise will go on till 3/4 am. The bedrooms get... more
