Excellent Value!
7 / 10
Aug 2010, Critic 101

I've just returned after a night at the North Stafford Hotel. There were five of us (including one baby) and the room was a brilliant size, even with our travel cot set up. We didn't spend an enormous amount of time in the hotel as we were on the Alton Towers package which is where the value really kicked in. It worked out that 4 adults paid £50 each and the baby went free. This was for a night and breakfast in the hotel and a two day pass (which on its own is £50) to Alton Towers.
Okay, the rooms may have needed a bit of maintenance but we had a huge bathroom with a Jacuzzi Bath and shower cubicle. The beds were comfortable and the hotel was nicely decorated. I would describe the quality of the food as 'preserved' rather than cooked. It wasn't bad but it was nothing to shout about.
Overall I was very pleased with the hotel. As I was driving up to it looking around the area I was wondering what I'd condemned us to for two days but my fears were immediately extinguished upon stepping through the front door.
A great value hotel that I would commend to anybody. Well done!

Check-in was painless enough but...

Apr 2008, Mrs S Podmore

Check-in was painless enough but since i'd paid for an upgrade i was pretty horrified when i was led into what i can only describe as a cupboard...tiny does not cover it. If a room is booked as a double for dual occupancy i find it abhorrent that the double bed is pushed into the corner, against the wall. The decor is tired and dust-ridden, the paint yellowing and chipped and the hotel just generally grubby. Staff seemed pleasant enough - although good luck trying to find any - and the location of the hotel was perfect for me because of its proximity to the train station. Breakfast was pretty depressing too. Other than that very disappointed - exceptionally over-priced for the quality of the place; definately has ideas above its station!

The Receptionist was very friendly when we arrived.
Our Room was tired looking with some of the windows not shutting correctly. Had a shower, which was difficult, as shower head wasn't working properly.
Breakfast wasn't the best I've had. Had to ask for our Coffee and Toast a couple of times before they arrived. Service was slow and the toast on the cold side of warm.
Will not be staying at the hotel, especially at the price we had to pay.
