Hotel was lovely, staff very friendly and worked exceptionally hard. However, for a 4* hotel to have only one member of staff behind the bar was unacceptable. Be prepared to wait 20 minutes to get served. Took the edge off how good the rest was.
The hotel was clean, comfortable and the food good with plenty of choice.

We stayed at the Porto Nova Hotel in June 2003 and could find no fault with it. My husband and I arrived early evening, and were greeted by friendly and welcoming staff. The hotel is large, bright and exceptionally clean.
We were allocated a pool view room which was clean, of reasonable size and had a lovely balcony overlooking the hotel pool and beyond to Tavira.
The buffet breakfast was excellent with much to choose from and again nothing was too much trouble for the staff.
The hotel is central and has a large pool (with poolside bar serving cocktails) and more than enough sun loungers.
We are returning in May 2005 and are counting the weeks!!

Stayed at the porta nova for 2 weeks, and the locality is centred. This is a relaxing holiday without the typical pubs etc seen in albuferia. Its typically Portuguese style atmosphere with several walks .
Hotel is very clean and the choice of food is A1. Would definitely stay here again. Maybe this sort of resort suits mature couples rather than younger couples. There are no holiday reps at this hotel. Plenty of good restaurants on both sides of the town. Travelling by train is cheap and a good way to visit surrounding areas. Tavira island beach is a must and can be reached by boat (quite cheap).
You need a day here as all facilities are on the island. If your holiday doesn’t include transfers from airport, u can book transfer online, as it is double the price by taxi.
